St. Louis Area City Championship! Prize Added!! [Archive]

Ladys and Gentlemen, boys and girls, trainers and posers...It is time for Meganium 45 to announce the schedule for City Championships for February, 2004, with more to be added.

At this point:

February 28th, starting at noon - Gathering Ground in St. Louis, 2635 Hampton Avenue
www.gatheringground.com for further directions

$5.00 entry fee for all participants in the main event!

Registration starts at noon, tourney begins at 12:30.

All tourneys will be modified format, cards only legal from the sets of Expeidition on....

Great prizes to the top finishers of all 3 age divisions, 10 and under, 11-14 and 15 and over

Pending interest, Ruby/\sapphire draft to follow February 28th event...

BONUS PRIZES - The Tell you Friends Attendance Prize! If the tourney gets 50 or more participants, in addition to the prizes promised by Nintendo....I will give out an ENTIRE BOX of Dragon as an attendance prize - 6 separate prizes of 6 packs each!!!! - Only available to players who did not finish in the top 4....

AND...For the overall WINNER OF THE TOURNEY (as decided by the glorious tiebreakers if need be) I will give one FIRST EDITION BASE SET PACK - UNOPENED!!! How many of these do you even SEE anymore? Hey Vince looks as though we will not get to hold these in Sedalia as I have not heard anything back. Was wondering though they show all the dates in Feb. when the TCG site states March ? Anyway we will not get to travel to your's maybe next time. Starting to remind me of WOTC.

(Will there be a Blaz/Eggs Deck, will Sheninja come out to play, how about Aggron EX/Wailord again, will Gardevoir steal the scene, Will the Scizor/Furret/Sneasel speed the scene again, or will someone come up with something creative yet again.....only time will tell.....)

Given that this event will start at noon, I will promise at least one draft (Rochester most likely) of Ruby/Sapphire (YES RUBY/SAPPHIRE) before store closing after the event....price TBA, but not over 15 per player!

And yes, the limited event will be sanctioned too!

I like to be cautiously optomistic.

I am expecting at least 40 people (whom we all can almost name together) for St. Louis, and a good number for Colinsville - I will be there Sunday to see what kind of crowd they have before we "invade" from across the river.

You all want great warm-up events, come to the Gathering Ground on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. this weekend.

Also, for those of you who didn't know it, the Nuetral Zone is running league on Saturdays in St. Peters from 12-3, and Dizzy's is running league in Collinsville on Sundays at 5:00, great time to come and test out your ideas.

I hope to see at least 25 people in Colinsville, and at least 40 in St. Louis - those are my wishes, and boy, if we get a bunch in St. Louis, what a GREAT ride it will be!!!

Hey, here's my plus to you all, my players, if we get 50 or more players at ANY of the City Championships I am running, I will give out 6 bonus door prizes of 6 packs of EX product at the event, along with 6 Pokemon Deck boxes as Random Door Prizes, on top of What Nintendo is Guaranteeing!!!

Bring your friends, heck, make some friends and bring them....

These events are going to be HUGE....what other game allows you to play for a City, then State, then National, then WORLD championship (OK, there may be a certain magical game that does that)

Also, Please PM me if you are in the area (cough, Scott, cough) and have bulk commons or "junk" rares that you want to sell.....I am in a purchasing mood. You keep your good stuff, I just want the other stuff.

That battle between you and Colin was one of the best in Pokemon History...yes it took forever, but you all played it all out. Just so happens Nike won $200 and Colin won $10!

I will do whatever Nintendo requires me to do. We will not go 2 out of 3, I am anticipating too many people for that to be effective (45 minute rounds my foot, you all wouldn't take 3 prizes by then!)

I am not sure about the cutting to a top number, it appears it will be the best of the swiss. Top 8 makes as many problems in an age modified swiss event as it solves. Works for 1st place, and for 2nd, but for the rest, there is the potential for a lot of ties.

I would love to get TX style numbers and hold it as 3 events, each with a top 8, but I am not projecting THAT many people....

Yeah, he is kinda a crybaby sometimes lol. Its ok to tolerate though, u just argue with him about how you won by strategy and not because his deck crapped out on him.

Looking forward to your competition too, Chad =) This tourney is going to rock, and I think we may pull more than 40 in, seeing as how all the other CC's are pulling in 50s and such. We should do just as well!

Gah, I saw the location thread hasn't had a post since January and I thought my unavoidable absence from the Internet had caused me to miss something big.

Sounds awesome. Gotta figure out how to get over there on the 28th... Can't take the bus. Told my parents about taking the bus when I went to the Sandstorm Prerelease and my mom didn't approve (mostly about the being at a downtown bus station until 3 in the morning part). And I don't think I can afford it this time anyway.

Unless PUI overrules me, the following fossil rule will take place in Colinsville, St. Louis and Sedalia.

Each player has 5 minutes from match start to set up their area. If a player does not have their match started for WHATEVER reason, then a judge will be called over. If it is deemed by the judge to be delay, then a warning will be given to the offending player.

After a warning, if it happens again during the day, then a prize penalty will be awarded. This will take care of the fossils, the slow starts, and those needing to sleeve their decks.

I am going to make in uniform across all situations, and that is the ruling you can expect from me at all events I judge, the pre-releases, the 3 state tourneys, and hopefully nationals.

Until PUI updates or overrules me, if you can mulligan 10 times, but do it fast, mulligan all you like.

remember 32 peeps = 6 rounds
33 peeps = 7 rounds
65 peeps = 8 rounds

OK, Let's make it interesting.

If we get 50 or more people who play, I will give a FULL BOX of Dragon away as a door prize, broken into 6 groups of 6 packs each.....

So, if we get 50 people, not only will everyone who enters get at least one pack, but 6 people at random will get 6 bonus packs!!!!

If we make it to 65 people...I will throw a SECOND box in, meaning there will be 12 bonus door prizes of 6 packs each.

This is on top of the Charmander Holo Promo that everyone gets, and the prizes guaranteed by nintendo for the top 4 in EACH age division. So bring your friends, the one who could benefit, is, well, you!

Oh, and sorry, there will be at least one champion playing. Zak is opting to play and not to sit idly by, resting on his laurels as Chicago City Champ. he will be competing in the events....I am not entirely happy with his decision, but I understand he does not want to watch, he want to play. Especially in the Great competitive enviornment of St. Louis!

I hope to win in Collinsville? I've done about as much to my deck as one possibly could to make it consistent with great results as well as draw and TecH. Although I do know Colin will give me a run 4 my $$$, which I hope 4...

I had planned on playing BlazEggs, but I just found this sickening counter-part to Kingdra Ex. I never wanted to play it b/c I didn't have anything to play it with...but now I do! :D Recent testing with some of the best on App has shown fantastic results! I won't spoil it in Collinsville, but I will in Da StL.

In the midst of my incoherent rambling, I was getting at...If I win in Collinsville, I'll judge StL. I'm dizzy now :confused:

I actually think he had a Dragons Pre-c0n b/c he had Salamence and Camerupt in there and he said he changed nothing in it but a few trainers. I'm not making myself feel any better though....the loss WAS STILL suicide worthy...... :(

I haven't. I doubt anyone would really want to drive there Saturday morning, then drive back Saturday night (I don't have anywhere to spend the night in St. Louis, and don't have the spare cash to stay at a hotel/motel). Though if midweek comes and I don't find anything, I may try it anyway.

I wish I could fit a war joke into this post, too, but I can't think of anything.

Honestly the VIP package going to the State the city Championships were held makes more sence. I could never figure out why PUI was going to do over 300 individual evaluations of where players were from. Just sending them to the state the City Championships were held makes it a lot easier.

Also, I could never figure out how PUI was going to know where the players were from. You can't edit your player information and if a TO loads the tournament info before going in and adding each new player in for a number, you don't get a chance to put what state the player is from. I know I have forgotten my last two tournaments so I have at least 16 players without State info in with there POP number

So the assurances we were made should be meaningless? So my 2 sons will not receive their VIP package because PUI changed their mind this week, after my sons owon thier events

So we wasted a trip to Chicago, taking away VIP packages from players over there, as well as having the St. Louis players take packages away from Collinsville? Just seems like a BAD call to change this late in the game....

It wasn't changed, it was never "officially" announced. If we go by what we are first told on the PTO list, you also can only play in the state your from and Team Magma/Aqua is legal for CC's.

We have been told before it is never "official" until it is up on the website. All the website said is that players would be receiving VIP packages at State. They don't expect you would drive 3 hours to play in one. The stuff we are told half the time early is never right. The info you refer to was way back in Late Dec/early Jan before they even knew what they were doing.

Maybe you should research your info before things get stated such as this. Having applied in the first week an not be choosen,If they were taking League sites first maybe we would have had more sites. If not for meganium45 we would not have one in Sedalia an had to drive at least 3hrs. to one. I do agree though city's an states should be done in the same state, why have Nationals if there is no one from each state. I also think the top 3 in each age group should not be allowed to play in another CC let the Comp. at state be the best it can be.

I got 0wned SOOOOO BAD its not even funny lol. Still had fun, great tourney Vince. I was a little dissapointed with the turnout though... only 30? What's the deal? We had over 50 for the Dragon Prerelease.

Oh well, congrats to Scott (bigpoppa) for winnin the 15+ division with Kingdra/ex. Nice job man ^_^ I'll post a report sometime when i'm not so tired heh.
