Yeah Im a returning player from the fossil era. Since then ive always collected packs here and there just for the hell of it, but I havent played for a long while.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for me, or if anyone is going to the pre-release at pastimes in Niles in a week or so could maybe help me out there.

So far Ive heard that steeplechase is a good starter to try out since it has porygon 2's pokepower, and I know that only sets legal soon will be Ex Deoxys through.

Right now I have a Gyarados/Ludicolo/Claydol deck with DX cards but I know its pretty bad so I wont post it until I play more and fix it up.

(Im sorry if this is the wrong place to post. Feel free to delete if I shouldnt have put this up.)

By all means go to the Prerelease - it's a cheap way to get cards and you will get to meet the local players.

Read the decks in the deck forum. After awhile you will begin to see a pattern in Trainers, Pokémon lines and Energies.

Pastimes is usually fun, and people will be willing to help you out.

At a $20 prerelease, you get 8 boosters. That's $.2777... for every card!- and some of those are rares, and some may be holo, reverse holo, EX, or "*"!

Yep thats right.

Introduce yourself to the Head Judge on Sunday so we all know that we have a new player playing so someone might help you. Also there is a league running at Pastimes every Sunday 12-5 so you can go there and practice your decks against people

Don't forget to include the Basic Energy cards (unless they ask that you give them back).

Nice. I like those rates. But I think I have enough basic energy cards (I have more basic energy than I do EX cards total <_<)

Regarding pastimes, does anyone know how much their weekly tourney costs, and what the turnout usually is?

Nice! Are there any prizes for free tourneys, or is it just for bragging rights?

prereleases u get 6 packs to make a deck, they provide nrg for you. if you finish the tourney you get x2 more packs, if you finish like 1 u get like 6 packs or sumthin like that i think. i am goin to my first prerelease next weekend.

Charazardian- Your don't go to Pastimes. I haven't heard of any weekly tournaments at Niles. They just have league and premier events. So no weekly tournaments.

For the prerelease at Niles. You will get 6 packs to make a 40 card deck including energy. You then play swiss usually 4-5 if we get a good show of people. Then after the tournament you can keep your energies and will be given 2 additional packs + Crystal Guardians merchandise. Prizes will be awarded to the top finalists in each age group depending on how many we get.

Thanks for the info, but the pastimes site says there actually is a weekly 1pm sunday tourney. Is this true, or do they not update the site much?

You'll also find some good friends who are more than willing to take you to places outside of state, such as the always excellent events in Milwaulkee, Manitowoc, Green Bay, and other places. Have fun!
