I have a fellow that isn't a professor but is however a person that has played since the beginning is very knowledgable with the rules.
I thought as long as you were over 18 and were in good standing you can still judge even though you're not a professor right?

Thanks for any responses.

Being a professor is not required to be a judge. Some PTO's like professors for premiere events, but not everyone requires it.

I know that M45 uses at least 2 17-s on his traveling judge team, probably more on his regular rotation...

I know that I have three judges (all nationals/worlds judges mind you) that are over 18

BigpoppaBeatdown (Scott)
Psyduck (Chad)
Mega Murkrow (Matt)

I have a TO from another store (Jeremy) that I use who is over 18 as well.

2 parents (Chris and Rhonda)

The REST of my judging staff is under 18, and I stand behind them all!

Riq, Bela, Corey, Rachel, Charles (is he over 18??), Jared...

And 2 new ones coming in the stable...we will see how they do...

Young judge staffs are THE way to go!

You just have to know the rules in order to judge. Professorship = people think you know the rules.

I'd accept all different kinds of people to judge my events. Age is kind of irrelevant- knowledge is what matters. Though I would say that passing the professor test does increase a person's worth, in my opinion. Don't let silly things like what year a person was born affect your decision to accept a judge.

I'm just curious, if he's over 18, and he knows the rules, why doesn't he just take the prof test?

Accountability perhaps.

to put in a way you can understand, Yes, any person can be a judge it is the TOs decision who they want to judge, however that person should be qualified in knowing the rulings ect.

Or, if he is 18, and seems unable to pass the test, could be the issue.

Or hasn't taken the test, or has not set up their POP account, a lot of reasons come into play.

My judges have a few rules they MUST stick to...

1. The integrity of the event is key. Nothing shall be done or ruled in any way that would make it seem that an event or a ruling is being handled unfairly, or to favor one player over another.

This means - if you are not sure, ask another judge, or come find me. If something happens that is odd, inform me.

2. The players, and their parents are our customers. We must keep them happy. This means listening to their questions, comments and complaints. Try and make everyone feel connected to the event. Ask players how they did, how they are doing, and talk to parents to get feedback. If there is an issue, or something that needs to be followed up on, see me. Be positive towards players. It is just as important for the 1-5 player to feel the event was fair and fun as it was for the 5-1 player to feel it was fair and fun. Believe it or not, players do not mind losing honestly. They do mind losing if they feel they were cheated.

3. When you are working the event, you are "on the clock"...no trading, or other personal stuff except on lunch and other breaks. We will have time to make sure you have a good time. Your primary responsibility is the event. Rather than playing a practice game during a down time, the event would be made more successful with having you talk to players, especially losing players, to make sure they feel included and wanted at the event.

4. Leagues feed events, and events feed leagues. Cross promote.

Just a few hitters.

If I run tournaments, I only let people judge if I think they will help out. There are a lot of people who do it only for boxes, and I know about most of the judges who do so, even professors.

Well i judged nationals at 16 when i was a professor, and judged nationals when i was 17 when i wasn't a professor.

Being a professor is just a bonus as a judge and in a way easier.
