Up here in Barrie, Ontario Canada we had 29 participants, then 1 showed up too late to enter. The day before there was freezing rain which stopped a few out-of towners from showing up.

Edit: We had 3 in the 10 and under, 19 in 11-14 age group, and 7 in the 15+.

Houston, Texas: 10-Under (4) / 11-14 (6) / 15-Over (14)

A player in the 10-Under became ill and left before the tournament started. One player in the 15-Over had over 30-proxys in their deck and could not play. So, we had 26-players to start and finished with 24.

Once again, I've compiled these stats and derived the highly contriversial per-capita participation ratio (attendence/area population). This time, however, I seperated the metro areas by the number of CCs in the area. It wouldn't make much sense to compare Los Angeles, which has 4 CCs, to a city with only one.

http://pokewatch.nick15.com/photos/CC04data.xls

Yeah, it says photos, but I had to put it somewhere.

By the way, I should point out that some of these entries are not complete for the mulit-cc areas.

Fort Worth, Texas ~City Championships~

We had 36 to start that was paid. We had an "11-14" girl's father call in and say that they would not be able to play because she was not feeling well. The girl and her father were pre-paid and given their entry fees back.

The age group breakdown:

"10-Under": 6-players

"11-14": 9-players

"15-Over": 19-players

Total: 34-players

Thank you to everyone who came to "Y2Komics". We had a great time. Also, we had a "GBA: Ruby & Sapphire" Tournament. It is always a hit with kids young and old!!!

Just a quick note about the Colorado Springs CC. We would've had at least 4 more players, but those 4 already won CCs and choose to show good sportsmanship and help staff instead. Now we have 6 CC winners from Colorado Springs. For the Littleton CO CC, I'm considering whether to encourage them to play because the attendance could be low (below 15). Plus, I've NEVER had a Littleton player come to a single Pre-release tournament in Colorado Springs. Maybe keeping the good players away from their CC might give the Littleton players a chance to win, but I doubt their winners would even COME to the Colorado SC unless it was held at THEIR store.

BJJ763

SteveP - maybe your past champs could do what the Auburn CC ones did at Milford - play but then:

Drop from the tourney in the last round. My oldest, who was 3-0, dropped from the last round. I liked this as it let the other top players battle each other. I don't know if another person was 3-0 after 3 rounds (i don't think so) but if Brian had stayed in the tournament and conceded the match, whomever he faced probably would've been champ. If there was someone 3-0 this would've been ok with me but i don't think there was another 3-0 person.

JohnnyBlaze's son played in the 10 & under with a different deck than at the Auburn CC. Nick of course was 2-0 and faced another 2-0 player in the last round of the 10 & under. He conceded the match as he decided to play for second place. (Wish Brian had decided to do that - more packs means another "chance" at a RH TV Reporter. Stupid RH TV Reporter......)

Thanks for the advice BJJ763. I'm not sure I would go so far as to encourage players to drop (or concede/ID). However, I might encourage them to play "fun" decks. I don't want to have even the slightest appearance of collusion (ie., my stronger players, who won CCs, conceding and/or ID'ing to my weaker players so they can win the CC). Since I'll be helping judge the Littleton CC, I can't really encourage my players to drop/concede/ID to afford others to win the CC. That has the appearance of Collusion, in my book. But, I CAN encourage them to play less-competitive decks.

I've done almost a 180 on my earlier oppinion that CC champs shouldn't play in later CCs. I like JohnnyBlaze's idea of playing different decks, or my idea of playing "fun" weaker decks. I'll leave it up to the players to make "game-time" decisions on whether to drop/concede/ID.

No need to encourage them to do anything. I know i didn't and i doubt JohnnyBlaze did either. I told my entire family on the way up to Milford that some people might complain that 3 CC winners are playing in the Milford CC and that they might really be upset if any repeated. I was either asked or i told them that the package is not handed to the next winner when someone wins again (i think my wife asked that). I was very surprised when Brian decided to drop - he made no mention before playing and was playing to win. But he told me he proved his point and wanted someone else to win. JohnnyBlaze told me at the end of round 4 that Nick was playing for second and that's why he conceded (i had asked him if there was a 5th round if he was going to concede or if he planned on dropping but turned out no 5th round was needed).

Sensei

I agree with Steve as you have to be very careful of the collusion accusation.Best to not get to that point and to volunteer to help out if possible instead.

As for Steve/Johnny`s idea about playing "fun" or "weaker" decks.Although a really excellent idea,most players won`t want to do that since the CC`s are sanctioned and it would affect their rankings adversely if they didn`t do good(which was the whole point of playing those decks).

`Sensei

SteveP
02/23/2004, 02:45 PM
UPDATE: I'm actually encouraging my players to play with whatever decks they want. Beyond that, I've only said that non-CC Champs will be given priority for seats in our carpool. Hopefully, we'll still have enough room so ALL can come.

Hopefully, this won't come back to bite us (letting CC Champs play again). I'm playing (they don't need my help), so I hope to prevent those CC Champs from repeating by beating them all. :)

Since this is our 4th CC in Colorado, it will be a tune-up for the Colorado SC.

The one in Auburn took place in a Toys R Us. 34 people (plus judges and spectators) packed into a 30 X 30ish (ummmm 10m X 10m-ish) area.

The Milford one took place at TJ's Collectibles. TJ's has a basement and is i think the 3rd largest gaming store in the country. 40 people down there. And a MtG tourney with a dozen(?) people. Plus 3 Pokémon judges, i think 1 MtG judge, spectators, and some Hero Click players.

All 4 of the ones in Utah are held on shop premises. Some places around here can fit upto 100 players in their stores for players to play.

Our CC in Severn, MD, is being held in a Public Library meeting room ;) , which doesn't allow charging for events, which is why it's free...(only 4 days to go)

There were 42 in Bakersfield, if I heard right. No breakdown by age that I heard.

Seeing no report here's a brief one.

Four came in my van from L.A. We passed a horrific accident in the Grapevine (1 flipped 1 crumpled). People should slow down in the rain & fog. The rest of the L.A. contingent came earlier and missed it. There were also some folks who came south to this tourney from Paso Robles north that we knew from Las Vegas SBZs. There is an active PKMN player base in Bakersfield as well. I'd say just under half were from out of town.

Russo's Books has a card shop in the back and is in an outdoor mall. Carlos and Mike, store employees, ran a clean tourney with some help from Wes (?) who played but may have been the gym leader. It started off outdoors at round tables (two battles per table) in the sun. Soon the weather we saw in the pass blew in and the area grew cold and they brought us inside the bookstore for the 4th/5th rounds.

My opponent last round was undefeated and offered an ID. That got me into the Top 8 and, according to Wes, my single point difference keep there from being a huge tiebreaker. I played Sam, a local guy with a Sharpedo/Arcanine deck round 1 of top 8, had to play my son in round 2 (and lost). He lost to Jesse Esquivel (and his BAR deck) in the final. Congrats to Jesse on the fine win and the folks at Russo's for a good event. Seemed like good sportsmanship all around.

Yeah i think you got those numbers right bulbasnore. BTW this is Chad from the event. I didn't know who won the 15+ Darn too bad Marshall didn't win, i was pulling for him. Anyway yeah the turnout i thought was incredible, i wasn't expecting more than 25, very nice. It looks like the attendance at all the CC's is pretty high, which is obviously good. Anyway i hope to see you at the LA event at the end of march and Triekev? Are you Matt or one of the other guys i met at the CC? Alright Socalers have fun at the Fountain Valley CC this weekend and i'll see you next month, and if you think that Muk and turbo Amphy i told you were good Kim, i have this nasty rogue deck i plan on using.....
