I have planned it with my parents that I am coming to this one. They have to go out to dinner later in the night with some friends (which they rarely, rarely ever do) so I am going to try to come. Do you have any idea to when it will end?

02/23/2004, 03:27 PM
Well... would have to double check with Chrisbo, but since the Library closes at 5pm, I'm guessing at about 5pm; unless the library actually lets us stay there longer ( i really don't know what thier policy on that is though)

I think as long as I get out of there by 6-7, I should be fine. :)

I'm hip. Let's ride!

I'll be there. As usual, one can spot me via 'The Hat'. ;)

02/24/2004, 09:33 AM
Just too add on, Expect to see me, Warbuzz, TrEkIeV, Paul, and others from our league there.

Now to build a rouge deck thats good against Gardivor... Gardy has been the only one giving me some trouble so far.

02/24/2004, 04:17 PM
I am coming ,and mabey ipgeek21 will show up to watch

02/24/2004, 07:03 PM
FYI - The Library hours are from 10am-5pm, period. That includes time to setup & take down tables & chairs and such. At this time I cannot get inside early to setup, so I'm probably going to be taking signups and handing out decklists at 9 or 9:30 outside before the doors open. If you can have your POP-ID and decklist ready to go in advance, that will really help speed things along too.

We'll probably be doing five rounds of Swiss, but since we absolutely MUST be out of the room by 5pm, we may or may not have a Top-8 depending on how much time we have leftover.

Also, there aren't any really close-by places to eat within walking distance, so you may want to consider bringing a sack lunch. The library does not allow food/drink inside, but there is a really nice grass area just outside (weather permitting); bring your picnic blanket too.

That's about it for now; I'll post more as I think of it.

See ya,

Will you guys need help setting up? I could probably come early to help if it is needed.

Maverick Hunter Zero
02/24/2004, 07:10 PM
Since he just said he can't get in early, probably not.

Although I'd be more than happy to come in early as well to give any sort of a helping hand that I could. I'd like to actually have a reason for having the title 'Professor', other than simply having passed the test.

Okay, how about "Do you guys need help with anything? I could probably come early to help if it is needed."

LOL, better? :)

02/25/2004, 02:46 PM
I'm sure Chrisbo will probably need some help setting the room up, especially since we will need to have everything set up as quickly as possible to get the most out of the limited time we have.

As Chrisbo suggested, if you can have your Deck List and POP ID ready before hand, it will help make things go a lot faster so we can finish the tourny in time before we get kicked out ;)

02/25/2004, 05:49 PM
I plan on coming.

Can you guys remind me to bring the printer, on friday or sat. I dont want to forget.

02/25/2004, 05:52 PM
I'll be there with about 4 of my friends.

02/25/2004, 06:30 PM
If you have participated in one of the Black Lion tournaments or if you attended the Riverside City Championships last weekend, then I should already have your POP-ID entered into my players database. If you have participated in any of PT&E's Prerelease events or GenCon-Anaheim, then I might have your ID from one of Karl's old lists (if I can find it). But no matter what, please make sure to bring your POP-ID anyway just to be on the safe side.

As far as help setting up, I think there's only like 8 long folding tables and 40-50 chairs, so if we all pitch in we should be able to get things rolling quickly.

I will be using the same Deck List form that was used in Riverside. You can get/print a blank deck list from here (http://pokegym.net/showthread.php?t=2304) or write it down when you get there, but if you can fill it out beforehand and bring it with you, that would be great.

P.S. If anyone has the attendance numbers from Bakersfield, please post in the sticky thread. Thanx.

See ya,

02/25/2004, 10:45 PM
I'll be there w/ Marshstomp, lookinforwailordex, korythatsrightmare & Gabe. Aaron B. is coming with his folks.

EX Drangon? :)

I am so excited. The CC is the only thing that has kept me going this week. I've had so much homework and tests this week that I can seriously say this has been the most work I have ever gotten this year. I wouldn't be doing as well if I weren't thinking that the tournament is in a few days.

Now I have to go write up a lab report and study for a vocabulary unit final thingy tomorrow. :(

02/27/2004, 12:41 PM
Just one more day.... hope you guys have your decks all ready (still working on my deck... darn you Gardy!)

Water Pokemon Master
02/27/2004, 01:35 PM
How about we all agree not to use Gardy so we don't have to put up any protection against it. :)

02/27/2004, 05:05 PM
Yes, lets all agree

02/27/2004, 07:22 PM
lol... wouldn't that be nice. But as much as I don't want to, I keep feeling compelled to put Gardy in my deck. But, if I do, it will be combined with something no one else has used it with (or at least very few have). ;)

Maverick Hunter Zero
02/27/2004, 09:43 PM
No Gardy? Is Jesse not coming? :p

Do YOU want to try to take Gardy away from him? I don't.

Water Pokemon Master
02/27/2004, 09:46 PM
Gardy protection is giving me a headache. I am trying to add a card to my deck, but I have to take out another and I cannot decide. I am going to exploud!

Anyways, 12 more hours. :)

02/28/2004, 09:04 PM
Pretty nice w/ 50+ in attendance.

02/28/2004, 11:57 PM
I wanted to just take a moment to thank and Compliment Chrisbo for organizing an excellent tournament with everything running smoothly.
I'd also like to give kudos to all the players, we had a really good crowd for this turnout with many players showing what I deem as examplary sportsmanship, particularly in the 10 and under group(both of them). I saw lots of handshakes after matches and general good will towords competitors.

I could not have imagined a better group of players, this event was truely a judges dream come true.

p.s. Jade wanted me to say she had fun too!!! (even though she got sick at the end :p)

I had lots of fun too, even though I only won once. :) I got to talk to some people I hadn't seen in a while, and I made a few new friends. Jason's (MHZ) hat was a cool thing to see as usual, and I learned from Mark and his wife not to have a too flippy deck. :) At the end, Warbuzz even gave me and lots of other people free boosters, and I got 2 important cards that I needed for the new deck I am constructing right now. From what I saw at the tourny, everything went smoothly, and that of course is thanks to Chris, Mark, and Kim.

I can't wait for the pre-release next week! Must see Aqua cards and double water energy.

02/29/2004, 10:21 AM
But I hear a 2 time CC issue came up here?
Jerry and Aaron?

02/29/2004, 10:37 AM
We also want to thank Chris and the other two judges for an awesome day of Pokemon! I'm still impressed with the type of kids and adults that the Pokemon tcg attracts. Ashley was nervous about going but even with a couple of losses she had a lot of fun and felt more confident afterward.
As an example of the caliber of kids, or young people, involved, Ashley told me afterward that as a young man was knocking her Pokemon out he was telling her, sincerely, how bad he felt doing it. No jeering "I crush you" attitude there!
See everyone at the next tournament!

Well, we hope to see you and Ashley again.

I find the Southern California tourney scene to be full of smart, creative, competitive & sportsmanlike players. Very cool & they make playing or judging a pleasure.

You know that Chris' league at Black Lion Comic has monthly tourneys, yes?

Water Pokemon Master
02/29/2004, 02:11 PM
Yep, we do have monthly tournies. However, I don't think there will be once this month since I think there is either a pre-release or CC going on every weekend.

02/29/2004, 02:27 PM
Black Lion Tournaments are usually at the first week of the month, however, The pre-release in Costa Mesa will be on the 6th. So there will not be a league tournament this time. we will be having normal league play the week following though. and a tournament at the beginning of april (april 3rd). I encourage anyone interested to come visit our leauge and join in on the fun.

Your welcome Water Pokemon Master.

Ahhh.... so close. :D

It was fun though.

03/01/2004, 06:15 PM
From what I saw at the tourny, everything went smoothly, and that of course is thanks to Chris, Mark...

And thanks. Chris & Mark did most of the heavy lifting (thanks guys!), of course. I'd like to take the occasion of your post to point out a couple things, in case PUI is patrolling here.

Smooth... that is how we like it and how we make it in SoCal & it is because of all the mature (attitude not necessarily years) players... having fun and making it fun.

We were 5 minutes late clearing the room; not bad considering the excitement and that alot of the crowd was late and needed decklist help (but everyone was accommodated smoothly) and we had to overflow into a nearby room there were so many (wait for Chris' counts, but more than 50).

If you've dealt with Libraries, you know that finishing 'after closing' can be an issue. I try to watch that very carefully in my venue (which is also a library meeting room). Well, the librarian did let us know that 'some crews' would be upset with us... but went on to say, 'Look--the room is cleaned up so nicely and the chairs all put away. How bout that from the Pokemon rebels, compared to the grandmas that came in previously that left a mess and broke the TV.' Well it was a nice compliment, and meant as such.

Y'know who was putting away the chairs? Mark & Mrs. Cattdreams seemed to be heading the task (while GreatFox & I took pictures of the winners), but several players pitched in and helped make 50 heavy chairs vanish on their carts. I picked up my table covers and immeidately someone stepped up to help fold. Players brought and carted away computer equipment.

All the usual highs and lows happened but no problems or tempers. Just smooth. EVERYONE just about helped out with that and we all had a wonderful time. Not only do we have a great regular crowd but a bunch of new or long away folks came. We also have a great heritage and one guy I kept thinking of but who wasn't there (WE ALL know WHO you ARE, even if WE don't EXACTLY know WHERE YOU ARE) has really had a positive and lasting impact on our tourney/league scene.

Game Empire represented very well from SD, along with the closer Winnie's Sportscards & Black Lion Comics leagues. So here's to the players, you don't take the credit but have reason to be proud. Nice PREMIERE EVENT (again - I could write about Riverside & abit about Bakersfield, too, but I'll spare you all). Here's to many more locally run big events!

Hope to see most of you at PTE's Costa Mesa pre-release this Saturday!

03/01/2004, 06:47 PM
Yup... we all had a great time eventhough I came in Dead Last, made out with a pitty booster pack and last round bye, I still had lots of fun (should have never changed my deck for that day :( ). Still waiting for the Pictures I took with Warbuzz's camera (I really need to get one for myself...) and will then post my report at The Labs as usual.

Hope to see all of you (and then some) very soon!

03/01/2004, 08:25 PM
What can I say that hasn't already been said, except thanks to everyone who came and attended. We had a grand total of 56 players (10 & Under = 2, 11-14 = 14, 15+ = 40!!!), and everything went about as smoothly as possible (except for the late start and lack of lunch break; sorry about that).

Special thanks to Cattdreams, Bulbasnore, TrEkIeV, Warbuzz, GreatFox, and all the unnamed minions who helped setup & take down the tables & chairs. I couldn't have done it without you (well maybe I could, but I would've been there all night :p ). And thanks to the S.D. crew from Game Empire who made the long trek north to join us.

Don't forget the TM/TA Prereleases in Costa Mesa and San Diego, and the final Los Angeles City Championship on March 27. Hope to see you all there.

Thanks again,
