I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, so please don't take it that way. Since the SEF of this tournament does not follow POP rules, it cannot be a sanctioned event. I'm not sure that it really matters to you or not, but I thought I'd put it out there so it didn't come as a surprise later if you tried to sanction it.

I definitely applaud you guys for running an event like this. Back when I still played Legend of the Five Rings one of the larger local stores ran a "Trip to GenCon" tournament every year, where players paid $20 entry fee. $5 of it went toward prizes for everyone that played and the other $15 went to first place. We usually drew 50-70 players, so the winner ended up with a pretty good chunk of cash to get themselves to GenCon.

dtrain
02/23/2007, 10:54 AM
Bolt: Yes, open to everyone, even if you already won a states.
M Liesik: Yeah this will not be a sanctioned. NG is the best! The winner can use the $ for the trip and use what ever left over $ they have on other things. :)

ShadowTogetic

well, when I went to origins, I left with ~$600 and came home with about $250 (hate food prices) But at least the $300 can help out a little

Yes, we know.Neutral ground is good like that, they are the BEST IN GAMING, and hosts the best Pokemon leauge.

Frankie that is your opinion and I won't deny you that freedom, but I would hardly say they are the "best in gaming"... :nonono:

I also really have to wonder what makes you think it's the "best pokemon league" really. There are some major faults I would just love to express but won't say so here to keep this thread on topic.

wow it suxs to be your jarrett :-P. That senior/master mix does make the top 8 sound very easy a free pass to the top 4 XD. That seems harsh for the senior kids that will spend 5 buxs to play in a tourney that would be a lot harder then a normal states for them.

Shellshock929
02/27/2007, 10:23 AM
It's even more harsh if a Master plays a Junior, Edwin. Besides, I know like 2-3 people who wouldn't care.

wait juniors too!? Thats a bit too much aint it o_0. Its bad enough we actually have to be facing aziz and jarrett but 10 year old kids as well!? Well if i manage to win a states before this im prolly wont go then cause i would most likely conceide to one of the 2 brats if i ever had to play them.

Probably something like that, Zak.

My favorite part of this thread are the following kinds of posts:

"I really hate Neutral Ground. I don't like their venue or the events they host, and their TO is inexperienced. However, I will go because I can stand the venue, love the event and think the TO is a genius for doing this."

Agreed. Seriously people, I created this thread to let it be known that NG is holding a tourny for all of us since Kings Games is having States over there. Not for you guys to keep bickering. Lets stay on track. Anyway, 2 more weeks till the Neutral Ground Pokemon Open!

My only "bleh" feeling about this event is the combined Top 8. For some it's gonna feel bad knocking out someone younger than you who made top cut. I hope there's something to reward these specific younger players too.

As for my reasons for not being a fan of the store, it goes much deeper than just venue or TO. If you must know, IM me, since I won't say anything else about it here.

I have ideas to regenerate OP in NYC, I just need support from you guys. >_>

Shellshock929
03/01/2007, 01:30 PM
Lawrence, just send me a message about it.

The venue for NG is alright, but my only gripes are the TO, other tournaments going on at the same time, and how the tournaments are ran.

I like Kings Games, but however, I also have some gripes about them too, such as the food, that you can't bring any in the store at all, which I don't like, the tournaments and how they're ran (whether if I am judging it or not, things turn out to be wierd), and the TO not being at the event when needed.

I have no problem with either store other than what I've mentioned. Call me a hypocrite, but that's my opinion.

-Peter

P.S. Rockefeller Plaza is way better than both Kings Games and Neutral Grounds combined, don't you guys agree?

My only worry is that the pairings will be "randomly" paired by some NG employee. That would make it very easy for someone to give them $20 and get to pick how the top 8 goes...which would very easily make sure they win the tournament.

If you want to make sure T8 pairings are 'random', I'd suggest doing something like drawing names out of a box, in full view of the participants: put each player's name on a card or somesuch and draw two = pairing #1, etc...

Anyone's free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that bribery is an issue we'll have to worry about. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of rule in Pokemon that prevents it, even in non premier events. Either way, I haven't heard any case of NG employees accepting bribes in tournaments for favorable matchups.
