I know, I know, I was running the event...but I gotta give props when props are due.
To Ray, Clay, Jeremy and Chris...you all were elite! And yes, Clay, you earned your judge support! LOL
Ray, you had to make some of the hardest calls EVER! Great job...you are a HJ at any event I run.
We had 125 players at this event.....36 younger players, all of who came knowing how to and ready to play
Junior Division...the big dog was down Sick...Andrew was out after winning TN states, so the field was wide open...but Benny had snuck up from TN (after finishing 2nd) Dylan was there (after taking 3rd in TN) and there were several worlds players and medalists from MO ready to play for the title, and a worlds player out of IL....and what a battle it would become! Also the FIRST videod full finals match....
At the end of the day, the matches ended up with the following results....
Finals
Brian H wins over Benny V....the wunderkid from B&B ran his deck to perfection, proving what a dangerous gym B&B is....
3rd Place
Ben D wins over Jason D...and takes the Badge as a passdown....
Senior Division...what do you say when you have 3 of the top 12 players in North America in the building??? HANG ON!!! This was the toughest divsion I have EVER SEEN. Numerous players ranked in the top 40, and several on the cusp. James F from IL, Kevin W from TN, Zak K. from MO, Taylor M from TN, Dale L from MS, Mason H from MO and many others....and it ROCKED!
At the end of the day....
Kevin W over James F in the Finals
Zak K over Taylor M in the 3rd place game (Taylor was acting a bit tired)
Masters Division...
All we were missing was Jimmy! Ness, Chuck, Newman, and a pile of other power players including the TN State champ from the day before (David C), and the IL State champ from the day before (Richard L), and just a pile of elite Worlds class players!
How tough of an event is it when...at the end....
Newman is not in the cut (dropped), Ness misses the cut, Chuck is out in the 8....WOW....here we go!
1st place Adam M (TN) over David C (TN State Champ)
3rd place Rob D (IL) over Jessica L (IL)
We were all fried I think after a great first weekend.
See you all next weekend, and at the IL regionals and the TN regionals!

Going to wait for PUI direction, and then parental detailed permission before posting anything like this on a public web space.
The video came out great! Props to Rhonda D...you could actual see the details of the cards and the plays being made.
From what I saw...great example of a perfectly clean match between two great players! (and yes, there are great Junior Players)

Wow must be nice not having to handle Juniors attending an event like this for the first time - "Sorry but this card has been rotated out. And this, and this and this, did you bring extra cards? Brian get me a couple Holon Mentors Mom *hands Mom a POP ID form* this is the first thing we have to get your son/daughter, please fill it out *insert MyPokémon Account speech here*, and THanks for the Mentors Brian, can you bring the box of Pokémon from the yellow Pikachu bag, thanks? OK Mom next you have to fill out this tourney entry slip (oh you keep this card - it has his POP id on it so he'll need that when he goes to League - where are you from? RI? No way i run a League *insert League speech*) and now you have do to a deck list *insert deck list speech*. Oh here are his/her cards that cannot be used today, please put them away so he/she won't lose them, Oh, and shuffle - really shuffle the deck when done so you don't get *insert clumpy deck start speech here*. Oh no i don't need the cards back. Oh, you're welcome. Hope to see you at League. Have fun! Oh first time to an event like this? Welcome first can i see your deck....."
No wonder my vocal cords ache as much as my calves....

Oh, we still had old cards to deal with, and still had all that fun...
But the kids knew you sat, played 6 prizes, drew 7 cards, weakness, resistance, and all the fun stuff that makes life challenging (in a good way) in dealing with a new player.
Talk to you soon.

ROTFL!!!!! OMG you took the words right out of my mouth!!!! Like a page right out of our IL States! We had 23 Juniors, the majority of them new, many their very first Pokemon event and experience at all. Same for quite a few of the Seniors "We saw it in the paper and the kids like Pokemon, so here we are! What do we do now?" But we made sure they enjoyed themselves and had a great first experience.
Vince sounds like you had an awesome event! My poor James F, 2nd at ours and 2nd at yours too. He joked around when he got his 2nd place trophy at ours that he'd probably be getting another one at yours. So much for thinking out loud. He's still an amazing player and I'd love to see those videos!
Can't wait til we hook up for MW Regionals! Won't be long now!

I will tell you this Nathan I guess your name is? Just so you DONT lean towards my husband, It wasnt the Tank who scratched your name out nor did he white it out! He doesnt even carry a pen let alone whiteout, nor did he mess with the pairings or standings, Clay did that!
Not saying you are directing it towards him, or was going too, but just so you know! I dont want no more lashing outs over sillyness! Hope you had a good time otherwise. Not making the cut can always blow the day if you let it.
Thanks!

Yeah Ness and I were teaming up against Nick and Ryan, it was 2 v 2. It was crazy, we were making up rules as we were going along, it was soooooo crazy. OMG no one even got setup, only I had the setup with 3 eeves and 1 Ariados, 1 Spinarak, and the Skarmory EX, it was awesome. Ness and I pwned them LOL.(Or did we)

That would be something fun to do during a legue weekend game. Only if we could get the younger groups to catch on fast. Seeings how you make the rules up as you go...lol It looked pretty fun. If only I could get the hang of this game fast enough to play something hard like that. When I was standing there, yall was all kinds of CONFUSED..lol I couldnt imagine trying to teach that to newer players...lol

Andrew was out after winning TN states, so the field was wide open
Sorry if it's a dumb question, but what does this mean? I ask because my son won PA state this past weekend and we just assumed he could keep playing states next weekend. No?

I believe Vince said he was sick, not feeling well. Since he won in TN, no need to push the issue. States are not one and done. Congrats to your son for winning PA states and he can play this weekend, if he wants to! GL this weekend!

Oh. LOL. I see. The "big dog" was Alex (EDIT: I meant Andrew....ugh...can't type). And since he was sick, he was out. It all makes sense now.

The big dog was Andrew - and he is not one and done...as some will see this weekend. Like it has been said, he was sick in TN, pulled out the win, got in late to MO, and being sick, we just did not want to push it (or clean up after it).
BWHAHAHAHAHA.
No States are not one and done and a BIG CONGRATS to your son for winning PA!
Hope to see you all at Nationals, make sure to introduce yourself, and find out about the Piglet Draft!
My real name is Vince.
Piglets FTW!!!

Once again...an event is only as strong as its staff and supporters...
I want to thank again Chris, Jeremy, Ray and Clay...and a few important supporters who really added to the day that I forgot to thank...
Ricky Ridgdill for coordinating lunch, and just being a huge supporter...you are GREAT!
Melissa 10e for her bringing of the treats (Pika pops for the win!) and making sure that the little guys had a great time (and keeping me smiling when I was ready to pop a few times!)
Rhonda for bringing the video camera for the Junior finals, and keeping the mood in the room up all day!
Cary Lewis for helping with new players, helping with cards, and just plain helping us all out!
Special Thanks to the Gathering Ground for opening on Sunday, having the best selection of Pokemon singles in the midwest, and getting in the selection of sleeves and other items that are so hard to find!
Talk to you all soon!

Sounds like a lot of fun, if we didn't play until 1 am Sat., we might have taken a little detour up there.
But I knew Vince would kick out a solid states! Congrats on the kids winning in TN!
See you soon, heh.
