Well, I ran Aggron EX/Wailord at my previous CC, and it did well. I'm thinking though, now that Blaziken EX is out, Wailord might not be able to "cut the mustard", since it's extremely unlikely I'll ever have five energy on a Wailord. It's HP is good, 120 is out of the reach of Blaziken EX, but after Take Down, 100 is exactly enough to kill it, and Rayquaza resists it. Not looking good.
History is often said to repeat itself, and it may be today. Back about a year ago, Espeon/Steelix was a popular deck. It was a very viable deck, playtested to death and often won at SBZs and the like. I was just thinking...
Isn't Blaziken EX weak to Psychic? Yes. Wouldn't Espeon be a decent supporting pokemon in Aggron EX decks? Yes. It also beats Gardy more easily, adding even more ease to the deck's victory. I thought, thought, and though some more, and came up with a metal/psychic deck for the CCs:
Pokemon: 22
4 Dunsparce
3 Aron
3 Lairon
2 Aggron EX
3 Eevee
3 Espeon
2 Sentret
2 Furret
Energy: 17
7 Psychic
4 Metal
4 Boost
2 Warp Energy
Trainers: 21
4 Birch
3 POR
2 Shaman
2 Power Charge
2 Crystal Shard
2 Warp Point
2 Potion
2 Oran Berry
2 Weakness Guard
After designing this deck, I wondered if I could shake things up a little. So I made these OPTIONAL CHANGES to the deck:
-1 Sandstorm Espeon
-2 Warp Energy
-3 Psychic Energy
-2 Warp Point
+4 Water Energy
+2 Sandstorm Vaporeon
+2 Switch
It's more "you send up something and I'll counter it" type of deck. It's not needing Warp Point because I don't want to force them back to the bench, I have four different types (with crystal shard) in my deck and I'll take whatever they dish out. I added Vaporeon for Blaziken regular, and dropped an Espeon because I thought Vaporeon could take some of the burden of beating Blaziken, but not too much: it can't KO it in one shot, and needs at least two energy cards attached to it. Whereas Espeon needs only 3 extra energy on the opponent's bench after Blaziken EX's Volcanic Ash attack. It's a bit conditional, but possible.
I also designed this deck for the SCs:
Pokemon: 25
4 Dunsparce
3 Aron
3 Lairon
3 Aggron EX
3 Corphish
3 Crawdaunt (Rare)
2 Sentret
2 Furret
2 Wobbuffet
Energy: 16
6 Psychic
2 Rainbow
4 Metal
4 Boost
Trainers: 19
4 Birch
2 POR
2 Shaman
2 Power Charge
2 Shard
2 Switch
3 Potion
2 Oran Berry
This deck uses Wobbuffet for the psychic type, and Crawdaunt can also be boosted for backup. Rend goes well with Metal Surge, since if Blaziken EX retreats to the comfort of its bench, I can Metal Surge and do some big time damage, then Blaziken EX will come out and KO my Aggron EX, then I'll rend for a KO, even with Weakness Guard, assuming I had Flipped Over. The deck has all the bases covered - well, a lot of them, at least.
I'm not sure which deck would fair better at the SCs in Maryland...I personally love Sandstorm Espeon to death (ARTWORK!) but I'm not going to worry about art when the time for big tourneys comes around.
Give me your feedback, people. And as a pre-signature PS, I want to say sorry for posting like 3 decks at once. I'm kind of hogging the forum (XP) to myself, but it's that time of year, by which I mean, the SCs, and I need the preparation.
In addition, don't be afraid to tell me to just play regular Wailord from RS. It's cool if you don't like the ideas I've posted. Right now I have about 5 modified decks and one future deck (BEGIN BLATENT ADVERTISEMENT...SEE MY SIGNATURE...END BLATENT ADVERTISEMENT), so give me foodback...wait....feedback.
Um........
Yeah.
