After poking around in my control panel, I discovered the avatar page. Questions:

1. Is the profile picture different from an avatar?

2. If not, how do I deselect the "Do not use an avatar"? I try clicking on it, but it stays selected.

Right now, it looks like only mods can have avatars. Hopefully this will change in the near future.

No, there's no 'problem' with the avatars so to speak; it's just that we didn't have time to get EVERYTHING done before opening to the community in order to have some continuity between the Wizards 'Gym and this one.

We plan to eventually have some avatars for people to select from; customs for now will remain an admin/mod "perk" ;)...but who knows what the future holds?

I would love seeing custom avatars, but they cause major hassle if they get out of control. Look at Zeo's boards. Their threads load sooooo slowly, as customs are allowed, and some are quite large.

The only way I could see customs ever being allowed here would be if they're regulated, SMALL, and in jpg. Even then, page loading would take a lot longer if you dont turn avatars off in the profile... and who wants to look at pages without ANY pictures on it... then it's as boring as reading the newspaper ;);)
I say if you can manage well-regulated customs, that would be fun, but if not, just have a nice wide selection of pre-made ones that the majority of people would be able to choose from.

And no offense to anyone, but we are now on a 100% Pokemon board. It is NOT the Wizards.com board area anymore, so mostly everything here is Pokemon-related. Having non-Pokemon avatars wouldn't make sense, as if having a Pokemon under your name isn't good enough for you, why are you here...?

As far as Pokemon Avatars go, I'd like to see Umbreon(of course), Mightyena, Espeon, Ho-oh, Typhlosion, Suicune, Blaziken.....I could go on and on. I'd also love to see some Avatars from other TCG's, video games, and especially some from all the anime series out there.:D

I would love to see custom avatars, i have about 372 shiney pokemon pictures on my comp, and they are all 56x56 pixels and in .jpg or .gif, wait, no some are .bmp too. I'd hate to see em' go to waste.

Oh yeah, avatars are on the To-Do list. ;) We spent most of our time just getting these forums to WORK, not enough time to spend on little extras. But... sooner or later you'll see something about it. And we're all too familiar with the avatar overuse on some forums, so we're keeping that in mind as well. :)

.... Concerning custom titles though, we've kinda ruled that one out. Too may oppurtunities of abuse with them. Plus it's not like there's nothing you can't stick in your sig that you'd need to have a custom title for. ;)

I'm thinking, the images of the pokemon from the 3 series of games, and also from the cardgame, where available. So if we take Pikachu for example there would be the RBY image, the GSC image, the RuSa image, Base set Pikachu, most of the other set's pikachu, Birthday, Flying and Surfing Pikachu, etc. I know that's a lot of pics for just ONE of the many pokemon, but I would certainly like for it to have a great variety and uniqueness to it all. Then there'd be the humans from the tv show, and so on...

Personally, I'd like the pic of Scizor from the TCG, the one from the Neo series, with FalseSwipe as it's first attack. Love those wings...

Alright, here's the deal.

Custom Avatars: Sorry, not now. We would like to get the board up and moving before we even think about this. As previously stated, we are working on getting avatars online for you all to use. Until then, please be patient. The reason we will not allow custom titles at this time is because of trust. Not that we dont trust you all, but we do know that there are those of you that will abuse the privilage. Lets call this a trial period. If you can all handle yourselves for a while, then we will think about allowing custom avatars (NOT hosted on our server, but hosted on your own.

Custom Titles: No. They will not be allowed, since as was stated earlier, there is nothing that you can put in your custom title that you cant put in your signature. Hense, it will be less for us to have to worry about.

Titles will be given, but wont be custom, and there will be one, or at max, two levels.

I say just stick with selectables -- at least for a while. Since this is about Pokemon:TCG, I agree with the suggestion to use some card images -- the old archetypes, some of the "joke" cards (Imakuni?, anyone?), and the rules nightmares.

I like how they've put in the first 251 from the Johto 'Dex, and taken them from the Trading Card Game. Jungle Scyther, Base Snorlax, and I see a few that possibly aren't from the cards, but they still look okay (some of the Nidos I've not seen on cards before, but then again, I can't've seen all of them.) Hopefully, the Hoenn 'Dex's pokemon should be available soon as well... :-) Keep up the great work, Admins!!!
