Searching for a Place to Call "Home"

I have been there since the beginning. First, I simply played with decks and strategims. Soon, the basic set evolved to include jungle, then fossil. Without money to spend and transportation to events, my attention waned. But my creative energies needed an outlet. That's when I found the Fiction Forum. The very first Pokegym would not have been complete without it. There was quite a following on that little forum. Then one day, it all stopped. The long-promised refurbished Fiction Forum never appeared on the WizPog forums, and a great following was lost.

One day, I returned to the WizPog forums after a long sabatical. Little writing and no pokemon. But the creative juices still flow, and I still need a place to write. When I heard about the new forum, i though that, perhaps, we could have a complete Pokegym again. One which melds tcg player and writer, card creater and lyricist.

Please, help this dream become a reality. Any writers here? Post and tell Team Compendium that you want a forum to call your very own, a forum where writers of pokemon stories can gather, share ideas, and just plain have fun!! Isn't that what Pokemon is all about?

I'm not gonna say peep about what we have planned. :) But from one person to another, considering that we (the mods) are in control, you can be darn sure that there's going to be a lot of things done here that we couldn't do at WizPOG. :P

Let's see... how did it start for me? I began playing Pokémon TCG when it first came out in February of 1999. I didn't stumble across the original Pokégym until sometime in the beginning of 2000 though. While I posted some at the recent Wizard's Pokégym, I never quite got back into the spirit of it all after the original closed. Aww... those were the good ol' days, helping create and perfect the Dark Vileplume "Hayfever" deck with a few fellow Pokémon TCG masterminds, discussing the current state of the Pokémon TCG universe, and battling it out on Apprentice. Today marks the first time I have posted in a Pokégym forum in over a year... I was fortunate enough to return just in time to post one last time at Wizard's Pokégym, as well as witness the birth of this new one.

I second tia3's request to bring back the Fiction Forum! IMHO, it is a vital part of what makes the Pokégym great and was the missing element for me in the Wizard's Pokégym.

Well most people know me for me knack with working with people on decklists and talking heavy strategy when it comes to gameplay.

But there's a softer side to this rugged Deck Mech. I enjoy writing, especially poetry. I have no musical or artistical talents. But I do enjoy reading and writing. So I would love a chance to demonstrate some of my talents and read other people's fine works.

i think what would be most beneficial to the 'gym would be a GENERAL fiction forum, for this reason:

Some of us arent still into pokemon the way everyone else is, but we still love the 'gym and the people. We want to post stories here because this is a GREAT place to be!!!

marril- the reason i would oppose two separate fiction forums is this:

1. there arent enough people to warrant it,

2. pokemon doesnt have the backing it once had.

if we split the forum, we split the readership. no, one forum would be best. there arent the 2000 or 4000 or however many people there were at the first pokegym.

I'll put in my vote,as an original 'Gymmer, but I won't size=7 a shout for a fic forum. IMO it's immature.

What's wrong with a shout out for a fiction forum? At WizPog, we requested one, but didn't ask enough, and guess what? We never got one. Just as in a oral conversation with someone, raising your voice just helps add to your point. If shout outs weren't supported here, there wouldn't be the option to enlarge font.

Wait a minute, please: the last thing I (and I'd assume the rest of this community) want to see is some kind of "us vs. them" division, with this board just over a week old!

Yes, I was at the 'old' Gym...and I saw a lot of people leave when it moved over to Wizards of the Coast. As with all communities, online or RL, change is inevitable; NOTHING is going to 'bring back' the "old 'Gym"...not the return of every 'old' member, nor the addition of a fiction forum.

I'd dare to say that a good 80% or more of the members of this incarnation of the 'Gym never were on the Psylum boards. And IMHO holding up the 'old 'Gym' as some kind of ideal of perfection and essentially telling people that if they aren't demanding a fiction forum in every post they make they aren't "true 'Gymmers" is divisive at best...and elitist at worst.

The community is still forming/re-forming; there are going to be more things added as time goes on, such as avatars, etc. Please, please be patient; we want to make this community what it's members want it to be. But suggesting that only members of the old Psylum 'Gym 'know' what the 'Gym 'should be' is wrong, as is saying those who aren't posting demands for a fiction forum are not 'true' members of the community. Personally, I'd like to see a forum in which ANY type of art can be linked/posted...graphic, poetry, music, etc....NOT just fiction.

The thing is, because of what we had at the original 'Gym, in a sense, we do know what this incarnation could be. We're not saying the original 'Gym was perfect, we're just saying that it had a more unified and varied community than this one is, due to the fact that it had lots of different forums that cattered to lots of different Pokémon fan's tastes. Us supporters of the Fiction Forum would never want a split betwen the old "Gymmers" and the newer ones. That would go against our whole goal, which is a more unified and varied community. As Tia3 so wisely said, this board is much less about Pokémon, and much more about the people the make it up. Tia3 wasn't saying that you're not a a true "Gymmer" if you don't support the idea of a Fiction Forum, she was implying that we are all true "Gymmers" because of the simple fact that we all come here for the people, not just those dang Pocket Monsters.

We understand what you want, and we are taking it into concideration... but the board is still new, under new management, give us TIME before you start your ranting and raving about adding things. Please.

Do you consider a polictical speech to be ranting and raving? Tia3 said nothing more than what a political leader would say, which is only in the hope of creating support and unification. We do understand that the board is brand new, but we're only looking for support and an answer, not instant gratification. We've got our answer now (in the form of obvious hints), and as evident by this thread, there is support for a Fiction Forum. We're satisfied for now.

Well, I certainly enjoy reading other people's original work, parodies, etc. I would also love to see fanart as Mom suggested in her post on the other topic.

When I was forced to write for school, I found I liked it OK and was pretty good at it, so I might even put in a post or two in the fiction forum.
