Okay, I'll start by saying how lucky I am that I live in Maryland. The hotel was 7 miles from my house and right next to where my mom works, so getting there was no trouble.
We'd been morking on our decks for a while earlier. I was going to play SwampertCune, David was playing Blaziken, and Melody was going with Gardy. David decided that Blaziken would be tedious to play since oodles of people would be playing Blaziken already and he'd be just one of the crowd with nothing making him any better than anyone else. =/ So we tried a teched out Blaziken, but that didn't work too well. So David decided to play Crobyss. And it turned out working well for him. He took first place in 11-14 with it. :D See his report here (http://www.pokegym.net/showthread.php?t=8780).
I was able to make some killer trades that morning, netting us 6 Steven's Advices, 2 Crobats, a Ninetales ex, and 3 Milotics. Now that all our decks were complete... onto the report.
Swampert Suicune ex REPRESENT
Round 1 vs Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)
He started with Sparce. I started with Skitty, Oracle and PETM. I got set up really fast and avoided Suicune ex getting Choded by using Magneton. He never drew a prize. GG.
1-0
Round 2 vs Magma
I started out with 2 Skitties =/. He had Baltoy. I got no energy for a very long tme, but I Oracled for 2 Water and used 2 Energy Draews over 2 turns. STILL no energy. AHHH. My opponent still went pretty slow. I eventually got out Suicune ex and KO'ed both Claydols and some other stuff before he killed it with Magma's Aron. Then I sent out Kyogre ex and took 2 more prizes. He only had 2 more prizes left so to be safe, I finished the job with Swampert.
2-0
Round 3 vs Shiftry (not the one that took 1st)
I started with Dunsparce (finally) he got Dunsparce I think. Maybe Seedot. he got out Shiftry really fast for a KO on Sparce. I put it to sleep with Skitty. I took out his Desert Ruins but Suicune ex had taken some damage already. He played another Ruins. I attacked Shiftry with Cune ex but he died at the end of my turn. he Brineyed Shiftry and took out a lot of stuff. Once I got out my Swex it wasn't so hard though. Swex had taken 40 damage from Shiftry when he used ATM Rock. and my candied Swampert ex with 4 damage counters (thank God it wasn't 5) went down to a Mudkip. I Oracled and Candied again and said Crushing Wave. DOH. Wrong attack, can I take that back. No. Please. No. So Shiftry has 80 damage and I have 1 prize left. He Rocks me again after Shamaning. Ack. But I'm able to retreat and do teh 30 damage with Magneton. Great game.
3-0
Round 4 vs Bex w/ Jirachi
Really close game. I kept a constant attack up even though I started with crazy drought in the beginning.
4-0
Round 5 vs YoungJohn06 with Walrein Milotic
YJ wanted to ID, but I decided to play it out and ID last round. (Ended up being a bad choice because it affected who I played in top 16) This match was really close. he had Ruinses and those hurt, but my Island Caves stopped Ruins as well as Spheal lockage. Anyway, it ended with Suicune ex active with 60 damage and 1 prize left w/ benched powered Ditto versus his Walrein damageless w/ a DRE and 2 prizes left. Instead of retreating and attacking with Ditto, I leave out Suicune ex and attack. Hooray for stupidityness. Great game though. Really great.
4-1
Round 6 vs Chris Fulop with Metagross
We ID'ed and he beat me in a fun match.
4-1-1
I make the cut in like 6th place or something.
Top 16: Round 1 vs EeveeTrainer (I think) with Sceptile Milotic. (Nooooo....)
First 2 games were hazy except I remember him flipping two tails with Tail Rap in game 2.
Game 3: I start with Dunsparce, Magneton, Delcatty, Marshtomp, woohoo. SARs. Turn 2, Evolve Mudkip, attack. He switches to Treecko and evolves I think. I get turn 3 Swampert ex, coolness. He gets turn 3 Sceptile. Trans off Sparce and attach. Ack. Tail Rap...
Heads...
Heads.
Dang. That really sucks. 200 damage to Swampert ex. That was a game deciding couple of flips. He's resistant to water, so I get a couple hits with Magneton, but he pretty much pwns me after that. Great game though, Wow.
Those 3 games showed me that he had a great deck and knew how to play it and he deserved it when he got the invite for 6th place after 2 people bumped it down to him. Way to go.
1-2
I'm out. And all I have to say for it is that I didn't expect to see any Sceptile.
My sister also lost her Gardy deck. =/
3 times...
The third time it never came back...
Look on the bright side, I won the Unlimited side event.
But got no Prize except for a few boosters because they were out of torchic promos. >X
And then.. David won in 11-14. Woot. Prizesness and a big duffle bag.
Props:
To Sensei for staffing the event and to the judges for judging.
To David for winning in 11-14!
To all the people who played Crobyss. (My deck pwns it.)
To all the players for making a Stadium Challenge with a very diverse deck base. I didn't play the same type of deck twice.
To erm.. the pizza for being left over at the end. :)
Slops:
To the lack of prizes for side events (I heard the West gave out booster boxes for sides. But regardless, at LEAST they gave out promos, geez)
To whoever stole my sister's Gardevoir deck
and some stuff from the judge table
and both our deck cases
and some people's binders
To the West for being the West.
To me for not ID'ing with Wetz and getting paired with a Sceptile in the top 16
Until next time...
See you all at Worlds. I'll be watching from the sidelines.
