guys thank the Lord this is not hurricane andrew or donna. Bonnie should hit the big bend area of the state today. she is jus a small but bad tropcial stom. Charley sould be hitting this weekend. Just hope that he doesnt go above a one or two at the most. The electrical crews and everyone else like that have been trained for this. They run drills all the time. The biggest problem is for people who panic and havent been through caines before. The storm charley should be in and out of the state by this weekend and that would give the crews several days to repair everything.
I will keep you posted about the weather down here. Today its great you wouldnt know that there are two storms.

Don't let it scare you. By World's, the hurricane won't even be an after thought. Orlando is so far inland, the worst it'll see is some heavy rain.

guys these hurricanes will be no threat to worlds. But dont ever take a caine lightly. My family is in the process of evacuating Tampa to get over to the east coast where I now live. The traffic is murder. I am just asking that you keep the state and the people in your thoughts and prayers for the next several days. The weather stations are saying that charley might be a level 3 by time it hits.

I see here people from the westcoast arriving because they had to evacuate adn now I realize more and more what kind of impact a hurrycane has.
I'm worried about the 5th dutch player who should fly in tomorrow evening and is traveling alone. He is only 15 years and I should pick him up at Orlando, but now I'm not sure if he will get stucked at Phily.
I'm staying up all night trying to recieve his parents at home and the travel agency to get information, but this is really not my idea of holiday.

I would be more worried about the storm forming off the coasts of South America and just came off Africa.

http://b.www.orlandoweather.com/wxmap/949813/detail.html

Its in the lower right corner of the loop.

This is the same area other hurricanes come from and seems to be a pretty organized system. That one would be the one that hit during worlds, if it organizes into anything.

I just checked the Weather Channel and it said that Hurricane Charley (supposedly NOW a category 3 hurricane) may cause tornadoes and heavy rain in Florida when its gone. Infact, I've been hearing that the entire East Coast is supposed to get heavy rain

--EDIT--

I just heard some news from my mother. I just found out that Busch Gardens is closed and Universal Studios and Disney World will be closing in the afternoon.

The Theme Parks (Disney, Universal, Sea World) will close at 1:00pm. All of the area water parks and Busch Gardens is closed. Downtown Disney is closed.

If you are currently in Florida for Worlds, your hotel will be happy to assist you with anything regarding the storm. Just stay off the roads today, ran into two accidents on Monday locally with a small storm. Imagine what would occur with a big one!

Wow I am good, this was just posted on the Weather Channel Website:

In the central and eastern Atlantic, two tropical disturbances have potential for development as the 2004 hurricane season moves into high gear. In fact, the one just to the south-southeast of the Cape Verde Islands has become Tropical Depression Four and will head west to west-northwest across the open Atlantic, slowly but steadily increasing.

Hurricane Charley has changed course once again, it's now supposed to go right over Florida, and come off the eastern side of FL.All theme parks and flights in or ot of FL are cancelled, Tampa Bay has been completly evactuated and all power shut down as, well as the islands off the western coast. Those who are here for worlds, hotels are happy to help with anything they can, all roads are supposed to be evactuated by 2 o'clock. No one likes to use the A word with hurricanes, but this has the potential to be another Andrew. For those who see this pray for us down here in FL. Hopefully we will be able to have fun at worlds.

Well guys I will try to keep you updated My family arrived safely from Tampa, only to be told this afternoon that orange cty might do voluntary evacuations. The storm was to exit the state north of where I am currently living now it is going to leave somewhere between Cocoa Beach and Daytona Beach. Cocoa beach is only 5/10 miles north of us. I must admit its a little daunting. Hagrid 23 and I have both been in level 1 and 2 never a 3 or above (we usually leave for those) but this time not enough notice. This will be waliken's 3 caine. but first major one. We are doing all we are to do.
Dont worry about the other systems in the atlantic nature can do a whole range of things by then.

Even if a tropical storm hits during worlds most are not really that bad.
See ya at worlds.
EVERYONE KEEP SAFE.

Acutally I'm west of Kissimmee so when I see the path of the hurricane I have my worries about being at this place.
Also the last shower is suddenly coming from another direction as the one before and as I remember my former lessons of meteorology that's not a good sign. "But I only had to study weatherforecast of my own country which is not having tropical storms so meaby I'm worried to much.

All I can do is wait and try to make some pictures, because my nice is making a studiesubject for her school about worlds and this hurricane will take a big part of her story.

venom, your flights next week should not be a problem. we are now getting winds gust about 50mph. I just had one of the trees in the back go over. I hope I dont lose many more.

Rainbow, the direction of the rain is not a real cause for concern, its the wind, is its a steady or just gusting.
That is where most of the damage comes from. Its still a bad storm but at least iis is down to a cat. 2.

I have the some candles lit so when we loose electic I can have light to find the other candles.
We should be getting the worse part of the storm between 11:00 and 2:00 am. Caines always seem to hit in the dark be it early am or late pm not sure why that is.

Kaz, I am getting outter bands Viera florida is where I am located. The wind is gusting about 50 mph.
(see my last posting)

When the main storm hits between 11:00 and 2:00 am. we will possibly have a steady wind speed of at least 60mph to 100mph with stronger gusting.

They (at this point of time) are expecting the storm to exit the state via Daytona Beach. They will have higher wind speeds they we will.

I did receive a call from a winterhaven pokemon player. the eye passed over winterhaven. they had to hide in a closet as the walls seemed as if they were shaking. The house is cb not wood frame. one window busted. privacy fence gone, roof shingles gone. metal bits blown into the air conditioner and not electric since 5:00 but everyone is safe at her house. We are now starting to get the bad stuff as the bad right quad will nail us. the lights are starting to flicker and the wind is a steady 50 gusting up much higher. So June, July and November are a pretty safe bet, but you never know with nature.

No reports of loss of life yet so that is a VERY GOOD THING buildings and be rebuilt and possessions can be replaced.

Sigh, its been a rough couple of days for everyone. I myself live on one of the barrier islands that Charley hit for a bit then started to head north. Because of this I am now stranded from my home, have no idea if it is even there any more, and have no idea when we will be able when we will be able to return. I guess that is what a 10-15 ft storm surge would do to a small island. Our first evacuation stop landed us in a hotel in Naples where we stayed until the point where we couldn't stand it any more, due to the fact there was no power at all and the heat and humidity was horrible. We then moved to Tampa where I am now in a Hotel room awaiting the time to when my grandmother has to have cancer surgery which could be a matter of life or death. All awhile I am waiting to hear if we still have a home.

But I am still more fortunate then the ones who have lost their lives in this hurricane. My prayers and sympathies go out to those people.

Dont be so sure, this is a quote directly from the weather channel website.

"In the central and eastern Atlantic, there are now 2 more Tropical Storms to watch. Tropical Storm Danielle and Tropical Storm Earl. They both have the potential for further development as the 2004 hurricane season moves into high gear. Tropical Storm Earl is of the greatest concern as it is forecast to approach the Lesser Antilles by Sunday and tropical storm warnings have been issued for St. Lucia, St. Vicent and Barbados. This system will then strengthen quickly into a hurricane well south of Puerto Rico and will need to be monitored closely by all in the Caribbean, especially Jamaica and western Cuba again. Tropical Storm Danielle is still far out in the eastern Atlantic southwest of the Cape Verde Islands and is forecast to also become a hurricane. We'll have plenty of time to monitor its progression."

Everyone was saying Charley was going to be a weak hurricane, before it became a catagory 4. with hurricanes you never know.

For what it's worth, we were at Disney yesterday (Saturday).

The parks are all running as if nothing happened.

Additionally, we went to Disney Marketplace, right across the street (more or less) from the Wyndham.
Everything there was fine and the Wyndham was all lit up, so it looks like the venue is still in great shape.

WE are back on power.
This area was hit hard and a lot of damage, but it's material damage so it can be restored/renewed.
Today we even could get some gas for the car.
There were fights at gas stations because everyone needed it and row growed and growed. The police was at each station who was so lucky having power to watch out for people getting heated to much.
Stores will be opening today normally I hope, they had power yesterday but I think they had to clean up first. (48 hours without power can you image how the freezing department will look like)

We helped the motel owners cleaning up the place and removed tons of garbish what was alover the place.
Now it looks pretty normal again and we have airco again.
No swimming yet, the pool is totally green and we are not allowed to use it.
Today we will try to prepare our decks for worlds, we didn't have the energy to work on those.

I just called the Wyndham Resort Hotel to inquire on their status. The front desk lady said "We didnt get hit hard like the other areas, Disney and Universal are fine, and we are looking forward in seeing you on Friday."

So it appears that the Orlando area didnt get hit nearly as hard as the other places in FL.

Safe travels to everyone.

Johnny,

The Orlando Metropolitan "Area" actually includes parts of 4-5 counties in Central Florida. The Disney properties are actually in a different county from Orlando proper, and for the most part were spared from bad damage. Parts of Orlando and Orange County were hit very hard. The airport and major attractions are back up and running but many residential areas are still without power. While the main roads are clear, some people can't get into or out of their neighborhoods because their streets are still blocked by downed trees and power lines.

We have quite a few pokemon players here that are still without power and the next time that they sleep in an airconditioned room will be at the Wyndham on Friday. Personally, I have a brother that lives about 2 miles from downtown Orlando. My sister talked to him right after the storm hit but noone has heard from them since, nor can we get to his house to check on him. I spent half of Saturday chopping up and hauling off trees that were knocked over on my property.

Should we call off Worlds? Absolutely Not. But just remember that there are hundreds of thousands of people close by that are still dealing with the damage and loss that took place.
