Bulbasnore's peculiar views on the Pokémon TCG and those of us that play, judge or collect 'em all.
Back in circulation
Just a short note of thanks to Chrisbo and the players at the Fountain Valley CC for the fun time yesterday. I was last year's champion, but very rusty this year and went 2-3.
It felt so good to compete. Everyone was just great to play against and it was wonderful to catch up with some of the folks from around the huge area that is SoCal (and amp up my own event for this Saturday).
I'm hoping to play more this season. I will certainly judge less (and organize more) since I'm a PTO now, and we're prohibited from judging in our own events. Its been great bringing some new judges online and corresponding, talking with them. One of them was T8 yesterday.
Sure, its great to get inside the metagame as a judge (sharpens your calls) and organizer (learn what your players want), but for me, I'm simply wanting to play -- but I'm not playing much at home and there are no local player and no league nearby (and no store or free public venue to start one in... yet. Malibu is really out in nowhere.).
I got into organizing and judging so my kids and their pals could have events. It just blew up from there, but make no mistake, the primary reason was my family.
As my girls no longer play, except to be kind to Dad and as my son's responsibilities keep him from attending all the tournaments (he had to work a shift yesterday), the balance is swinging towards the simple love of the game again. My wife and I still love to play. My son still loves to play, but is away from home doesn't always have time off for events.
No doubt, I'm really looking forward to being the player host and judge mentor for next week's CC! I got to talk to a lot of pals yesterday who are coming to play, judge or help out. But, I'm also yearning to get out to play in a friends CC the following week.
It might be interesting to actually play in one or two of the big events this year. Its good to be back in circulation in the player pool, if for no other reason than to get some games in...
