Thread: Anatomy of a Fake Pokémon Card

  1. #76
My League Leader spotted a new kid with a "Rare Candy" with the art of an Amulet Coin....

That's the first time I've ever seen a fake in our area. Thanks for this, it's gonna help a lot of people spot fakes!

    This is very good info.

Parents should be reading this and helping their kids learn how to tell what is fake and what is real.
I once saw a boy who started off a tourney game with a fake Deoxys. His opponent realised it was fake, told the boy, pulled out his folder and gave him the real card to keep. After the tourney finished, the boy ended up second.

If that boys opponent didn't give him the real deoxys, he would have been disqualified. If he never had that fake, there would have been no problem.

That boy is now one of the best players in my ex-area.

This will help the general public a lot.
This is what happens when people read broken cards while they drive:

    Unuseful post over ...
I decided to do an article about fakes for french magazines and I got the last laws about counterfeit in France.
3 years of prison, 300000 € of bill (I do not know how much it is in dollars).
And it is more if it is in organized band, or it is dangerous for public health.

Is that for any counterfeit, or just counterfeit money?
I suspect that law is about money.

We should all move to europe, then.

JK. We have advantages over Europe, and so do they.

As my article works well, I ask you if you could send me (for volunteers) some scans of fake cards of the recent editions.
    I seach : a fake back
    a fake level X
a Fake pokemon card (legal tournament format cards)
    and what you can send
I ask it because i asked it in the french organised play but I have almost no card.
I ask them at the standard card size, and at a 2 time size ...
    Thank you !

I'm not sure if this has been covered yet, but at my mall there's a little store that sells bootleg packs. They come in golden cardboard boxes and are actually quite deceptive. I bought one pack thinking it was real, but immediately noticed they were all fake as soon as I opened it. It had like 4 non holographic EX cards and they all felt really rough and dirty.

Yeah, some of the fakes I mentioned in my last post are the same ones. The boxes are like a deck of normal playing cards, right?
I still have people coming up to me at league asking if the yellow bordered, non holo level X they have is fake. -__-'''

Oh, one more thing. I've been searching random stuff on ebay lately and have been finding more fake cards being sold for cheap. I swear, some of these sellers either will not listen when you tell them they have fakes or they know bloody well what they have and blow you off. I sent this one guy who had a fake garchomp X a note saying he had a fake n' sent him a link to the real one. the note he sent back made nearly no sense and he thanked me for telling him it was a mint card. Yeah, my head spun for a bit afterwards.......

I don't think they're printing cards in Korean right now, but I could be wrong.

I think that LV X cards should be added to the guide just to keep this guide up to date. Also Legends Awakened have some very real looking fakes. The level x's have the correct font, correct energy symbol size, and the accent over the e in Pokemon, though the PokePower and Poke Body looks weird. I have some pictures that I can contribute to the guide for the fake LV X's.

I like the way the seller calls it an "unofficial pokemon card" to avoid admitting he sold a counterfeit card for $15.

I did send a somewhat angry e-mail to ebay about this seller and also about 7 more listings of fakes to PUI. Hopefully something will be done.

KoM.. always good to include PUI on these matters. They do take these things seriously!

Lately at my new League in Watauga, we are getting an influx of Fake Cards. Actually had ot sit down with some of the parents and show them the difference! At this point, I am directing them to Target/ Walmart and the local card shops!

I guess that 's what we get for being #2!

May I also say, in real Pokémon cards there is a black layer running through the middle (inside), so if you buy a pack that you think might be fake then get a useless card from the pack and rip it in half, if there is a black layer in it, it is real.

Edit: Corrected "line" to "layer". -Pop

Also, European fake cards, generally outside England are quite thick and waxy, and the picture can be quite blurred.

YES!! If you buy something fake you can get evidence from the producing company, in this case PUI and send their confirmation saying it is. Ebay then give you a refund and the seller is kicked and banned.

We found some good ones today. One left the "P" off of "Pokemon," calling an Entei a "Volcano okemon." That same card was one of those non-holo scans of a holo card. We also had one that called Starly a "Staling" Pokemon instead of "Starling," and -- my favorite -- a Ludicolo that was to have "evolve[d] from Hoppip."
