Another rudimentary question by yours truly-Ambipom G

I was reading the CotD posts for Ambipom G. If you use his first attack on your opponent and he has no benched Pokemon, does the attack just do nothing, or is that energy card discarded? Thanks for your continued help.

It does nothing, for it cannot be attached to anything.

Post in 'Ask the Rules Team" to get an official answer. There seems to be 2 steps to the atk language in the japanese text. 1st part says to detach the energy from the active. 2nd part says to attach to a benched poke. The discussion on another thread here w/ ambipom g dealt w/ a benched poke that had unown G attached. In that case, you could target the g'd benched poke and since the effect was ignored, the energy was sent to discard pile. With that ruling, you may be able to detach the energy and since there is no 'target" on the bench to hit, it may get discarded.

Can anyone clarify why the energy gets discarded if the player choose a target that has unown G?

Lawman, I just realized that you're the Sevierville league organizer. I met you last week at league.

I wouldn't apply the ruling about Unown G to the case where there is no benched Pokemon at all.

Not the same situation, at all!

@Pop: Thats why I suggested a ATRT Q. It is different in that no bench makes a different scenario.
