Japanese trophy card prices
Let's try again :)
This was the original list that FrostyFluxy proposed. My comments in bold. Please remember I've not checked prices for several months which might explain my surprise Quote:
)Quote:
I have a slightly different opinion than Scott about card values at this level - ultimately it is up to the buyer what they are willing to pay and in my experience of buying trophy cards (yes, it's nowhere near as Scott's obviously!), its a lot of negotiation. Or maybe that's just the way I prefer to do it. So for me, card prices are very subjective, do change a lot over time and therefore these lists are benchmarks at best. Having said that, I absolutely take my hat off to Scott for the amount of work and research and dedication he shows. I can't do that! And one of the trophy cards I bought directly from Scott, the other I asked his advice. I feel privileged to have a connection with the world's elite collector. Do not underestimate his importance in the collecting community. He really does talk to collectors all over the world, some of whom I don't even know. You might not agree with his stance, but you can't disagree with the facts he has. Most importantly, lets treat him (and everyone else on this board) with some respect. OK, start debating! Or... there are other very rare cards that can match some of these in price, do we want to chat about those too?

Thank you for re-posting this, hopefully it doesn't get too carried away like last time :P
I agree that Pika's pricing is quite low, however I would say that I have seen high offers like you said yourself but just because they don't sell at that price doesn't mean thats what they're worth. So low-ish it goes. Collectors will be collectors after all if they don't sell there cards it might have to be quite a substantial offer to make them sell. (Who knows some may differ) As for the Kangaskhan card I have seen one on Y!J go for around $1200 and I think Scott mentioned one being sold for $850? recently so prices can fluxuate rappidly and so you can never be certain of anything. Also for the SSB cards, like Bulbapedia says only 3 copies of each place (1,2,3) exist, however some sources say that there are 7 copies of each place given out at each tournament leading to the Finals. So, without All the actuall cards being revealed and seen it's very difficult to be even near the appropriate average when there rarity may be deceving. Anyway, thanks for re-posting this again and i'm always keen to see new debates (: Last edited by FrostyFluxy; 12/17/2011 at 05:58 AM. |

Oh man here we go :p I have to agree with most of the prices listed above. I'm not sure about the victory orb mew though. I doubt it's worth $1000-2000 without the case, More around the $400-500 range?
Anyway, as for the SSB's, bulbapedia is wrong. I have seen at least 3 of each place. I can bet with 98% certainty that there are seven. The tournament was held in 7 locations: Oosaka , Hukuoka, Hiroshima, Sendai, Nagoya, Tokyo, and Sapporo. The tournament was only for 5th grade to high school ages if I remember correctly. So, only one age group. That info is straight from the Official 2000 card book :) That means 7 were printed. There are 7 TMB's as well, since they were both part of the Summer '99 Challenge series. The TMB tournament was for children in elementary school students. |

Yeah I agree with you on the SSB's but since I have not seen anymore I can't say for certain that there is. (but I am also 98% sure there are)
As for the price on the Mew, I included it in the case not just the card alone, mainly as everyone just loves the cases :) so it might e around $700 on its own. I think going as low as $400 is just a bit too low. I want your SSB No. 3! :p Posted with Mobile style... |

I would have to agree that prices seem to be going up. While it is a good thing that it is happening, it is also a bummer for those of us who want to buy :p I'm just happy that there is still a strong interest in collecting pokemon!
Haha! And I want you No.1! It seems we have reached an impasse :) |

I have noticed that cards prices are rising these past few months. Cards are being purchased by collectors which mean in the future there won't be as many, so it is like a big rush to get the cards you want because you really don't know when they will pop again. As for the new trophy I got mine for a reasonable price because I bought the pika ring with it. With the case I can see the new trophy going for at least $850 (Scott sold one at this price I believe he said). I also have to say the Pika Ring should be priced a few higher as I have seen way less then the mew. Especially in the original case. But with prices rising this might be the last chance to get these at s reasonable price. The mysterious Pearl I got I paid $300. To me the pearl is around $200-$350 however a few top sellers won't sell theirs less than $450. The Miracle Diamond should exceed $700. There are quite a few less than it's counterpart. I'd price it at $700-$900 as people have purchased it in the price range that I know. Touching on the top tier cards like the SSB, TMB, and the Pikas, I honestly feel like these cards you can't put a price on. They are Worth how much someone is willing to pay. I know a few people who paid top dollar when they could have worked a deal to get Lower but they were fine paying a bit more. Well that's my opinion :). Oh and Dogma I wish I outbid you on the Kangaskhan trophy now :,(
