Official News on UK City Challenges

UPDATED to include FALKIRK #2 the return of the Tartan Terrors!

I have to hand it to PUI forcing our OP provider to run these tourneys is inspired thanks Dave Schwimmer, Jimmer and Jarred for listening to us. Anyway here is the deal and it's brilliant.

There will be 30 to 40 City Challenges in the UK. Actually looks like 12 now :(

They will be small tournaments between 8 to 16 players, winners in each age group get an invite to Nationals sometime in July but at least by the 12th July 2004 latest. Nationals is an invite only event and is looking for around 60(ish) players.. although they will be happy with 24, 8 in each age group.. :(

There will be banners and promotional items available for the TOs. Okay no banners and the promotional items were trimmed :(

There will be prizes of Medals and Promo Cards to the winners plus other goodies not yet announced... okay so not everyone got their medal :(

There will be City Challenge Promo Cards for all participants.
The winner in each age group will qualify no matter if they are the only player in their age group.

This is truely great news and I take back all I have said about PUI running ahead of themselves and being disorganised and not concentrating on the basics.

These small City Challenges start from tomorrow and continue throughout April and May .. details are sure to be posted at :

http://op.pokemon-tcg.com/events/eve...=international

Make sure to bring copies of the Compendium for them to use in card rulings!
Maybe we can get Jared to advise them to use it.

Where are they?

Well you could always ask PUI by emailing them at :

International@pokemon-tcg.com

They say they want our emails and that they are happy to answer any question so drop them an email :)

Or you could swing by the OP provider in the UKs site at:

http://www.theplaceforgames.com/pokemon/

They have an events section that is bound to cover city challenges too :)

Post Details for UK CC's

Okay here are the details...

UK City Championships

Around 20 will be held up and down the country, TOs should contact TPFG directly to offer to host one. The latest two Cities to register are Slough and Hillingdon/Uxbridge. already registered are Norwich (16th May), amongst others.

The CCs will take place between now and June, depending on who's organised the venue (TO). Nintendo/TPFG have offered full prize support so the entry fees need only cover the cost of hiring the place out.

There are 3 age groups -
10-
11-14
15+
Each winner of a CC bracket will receive an invitation to the UK National Championships, now confirmed to be taking place in birmingham, July 3rd 2004.

1st Place
CC Promo (Charmander), invite to Nationals, 'Basic' prize package, and a display of TM/TA boosters.

2nd Place
18 TM/TA boosters.

3rd/4th Place
9 boosters.

That's all for now.

http://www.theplaceforgames.com/pokemon/index.asp
should have all the latest details up soon.

No, there'll be places up for grabs at the Regional (State) championships, four of them are to be held; Northern Ireland, N, NE and SE championships are being planned. TPFG are further ahead on the development of the CCs and really just need TOs to get in touch with them so that they can get the medals engraved etc.

Just wish I could be assured of covering the venue costs .. there really ought to be some payment to help with that especially when we are trying to help out at the last minute.

I would be happier if there had been time to plan and advertise the UK CCs and I am also concerned about the prompt arrival of prize support. So far every pre-release has been a scramble I would hate to find out that each CC is just as much of a rushed job :(

Maybe if there was a decent 10 week or so lead time that would help but with them happening now and through may we just don't have the time ...
