Pokemon TCG Burger King Promotion coming!

POKÉMON USA, INC. AND BURGER KING CORP. PARTNER FOR MAJOR PROMOTION IN NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA

BK® Kids Meals to Offer Fans Pokémon® Trading Card Game Cards and Accessories

BELLEVUE, Wash. — February 12, 2009 – Pokémon USA, Inc., and Burger King Corp. today announce a promotional partnership that will feature collectible premium Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) game cards and accessories in BK® Kids Meals across North and South America. As part of the promotion, participating BURGER KING® restaurants will offer two Pokémon TCG cards, featuring fan favorites such as Dialga™ and Palkia™, and a Pokémon themed accessory with each purchase of a BK® Kids Meal, while supplies last. Over the course of the promotion, participating BURGER KING® restaurants will be the only place to obtain each of the 12 different Pokémon TCG cards and six different accessories, including Pokémon card holders, lenticular rockers, and card frames. The promotion will launch for three weeks in the U.S. and Canada on June 1, followed by a four-six week program that will launch in South America on July 20.
The program will be supported by Burger King Corp. through a fully integrated marketing campaign that includes television advertising, in-restaurant merchandising, custom packaging and an online minisite (ClubBK.com). The Pokémon TCG cards and accessories are available for a limited time only and intended for children ages three and up.

"The popularity of these internationally recognized characters is a perfect fit with the BK® Kids Meal audience,” said J.C. Smith, marketing director at Pokémon USA, Inc. “This is a big year for Pokémon and our partnership with Burger King Corp. will fit nicely into a calendar full of exciting Pokémon events.”

The premiums are based on the all-new Pokémon TCG: Platinum, the latest installment of the best-selling Pokémon TCG, featuring 130 cards. The release of Pokémon TCG: Platinum coincides with the highly anticipated launch of Pokémon Platinum Version for the Nintendo DS™ system, which comes to retail on March 22, 2009.

Pokémon is one of the most successful children’s franchises in history and the #1 collectible trading card game of all-time. The record-breaking TCG boasts 374 percent sales growth in the U.S. alone since 2005 and is sold in more than 30 countries across the globe. The Pokémon video game series has sold more than 186 million units worldwide through September 2008, with many more expected for the release of this spring’s Pokémon Platinum Version. Other successful extensions of the property include 11 seasons on U.S. television, with the debut of the series’ 12th season this spring. Pokémon films and DVDs continue to reach fans in amazing numbers, ranking at the top of the box office in Japan.

Got something to do with lenses. A rocking lens?

Quick Google search says that it's one of those 3-D holographic pictures.

I hope the deck boxes they put out this time can hold 60 cards in sleeves...

What, that's no fun. Gotta have the kids meal with the toy. A few (4 or 5) kids meals makes Team Cook happy.

I'm the King, I wear the crown at every league. I offer double points to all player that wear the crown at league.

I use the deck box as a dice box. I love it, looks cool.

Looks like Pokemon / BK will be an every year thing now.

Hopefully we see some cool cards this time around. Getting the same old starters / Pika / legends is getting boring. Maybe there will be some trainers this time around.

Well kids don't like getting trainer cards, so I doubt it. Unless they were to make like an Ash trainer card... which is way over due. But I doubt it.

Glad to see another promotion.

Hate the fact that it's with BK. Ugh! Wish they could branch out more here and do stuff like the Domino's Pizza promotion in Japan.

Cross your fingers all you want, but Burger King would be mad if PUSA decided to do that.

Also hoping for some good cards, last time was ok for introducing kids into the TCG, but none of the cards were usable, and the only one that was usable at one point - Lucario- wasn't usable at all by the time it came out.

again... why must Nintendo support child obesity? We know burger king isn't healthy, but branding e.g. a healthy yoghurt or cereal could do so much good.

I agree with the above, they could even partner with Subway rather then BK. It would be absolutely amazing if they actually released Lax lv.x.

Awesome! I think its always a great idea to pair pokemon with fast food chains, like waaay back in the 90's when you could get a shiny pokeball with a golden card thing inside, that was the bomb!!!! Is it still hip to say "the bomb"? Anyway back on subject I bet come June time we'll be seeing an insane increase in people playing pokemon again!

10/10!

Didn't BK just have a Pokemon giveaway a few months ago? Well, I know where I'm eating after work....

BTW, if you get mac 'n' cheese and apple fries with your Kid's Meal, try mixing the caramel sauce in with the mac. It sounds weird but it tastes great.

I went to a Burger King last year during the promotion (went thru the drive thru) and even though it said "Pokemon" toys on the window, they gave me a Hulk toy instead...

Not like I really enjoy Burger King enough to go, but it might be tempting to check out if I am near one during that time period.
