Thumbs down Uk nats london-kempton park

sorry but didnt find the event an over all thril as many things were done wrong judging and well a lot of other things not pointing figers but this years nats was awful from my point of view i have been reading bout nats for a while last years and year before and this year just kinda well threw all wat i thought that it would be out the window well down to bad points.

*judging was very haphazard-20 minutes for judges to decide weither or not you could play 62 cards in a deck
*discrimination-well my friend was just starting her game and was insulted by her opponent because she was from wales and then all he got was a warning for calling her X and counting her deck before the game and looking through her deck face side up.
*structure-the event was all over the place juniors and all other devisions were almost sitting right next to each other wen it could have been done seperately or at least more apart from wat they did do.
*time-well someone i was with was a minute late for giving in his deck list, and the event started about an hour and a half later yet he still recieved a first round game loss for it.
*attitude-the over all attitude that you recieved from people at the front desk while giving in deck lists and then later if their was a problem very very picky.
*the shop sorry but rip off much custom made mats 40 pound what wen you can get better ones for 30 pound and no web address on them as well as deck sleeves saying that they contain 60 wen the packaging clearly states 50(this may not be true as they may give u the extra 10 but not sure)
*stupid and pathetic-all the stupid rules that i heard was rediculos e.g. it's ilegal to have your deck tilted to either side, you can play fossils wen u start if you have no other basics in you opening hand. These were just aweful next time if i go i will print off the offical rules and carry it with me.

sorry but this kinda just put me off the nats and anoter thing is that well time organzation was aweful and that i hope to god that worlds will be organized better than this not for me but for the people who go.

Before giving a penalty, we have to confirm the contains of the deck in case extra cards may have been picked from opponent from a previous match.

Warning was given inline with the penalties given to the judges on the day.

There was only seating to sit 200 players. With 180 players, there was no space to spread them out.

It has been stated at the event that reg would close at 9.30. We shouted that reg had been closed at 9.30, however it wasn't until 9.45 we started giving FRL's.

If there was a problem, a judge should have been asked. The HIVE is always busy.

The shop is privately own, and not part of nationals it self.

Q. I like to keep my deck and discard pile sideways to help me keep them separate from my bench. Is that OK?
A. Your deck must be oriented vertically, to avoid revealing information during handling or cuts. You may turn your discard pile 'sideways', to help you distinguish it from your bench. (Oct 16, 2008 PUI Rules Team)

Q. At the beginning of the game, can I start with a Mysterious/Claw/Root Fossil as my Active Pokémon even if I have another "real" Pokémon on the bench?
A. Yes, you can start with a Fossil Trainer card as your Active Pokémon, at the start of the game. (Oct 2, 2003 PUI Rules Team)

Also

Q. If you have basic and fossil Pokémon in your hand at startup, can you choose to play only the fossils and not the basic?
A. Yes. You can play "just" the Fossil Trainer cards, if you have fossils and a basic. If your opening hand has Fossil Trainers only, but no Basic Pokémon cards, you must choose a Fossil Trainer to place active. (Oct 16, 2003 PUI Rules Team; Jul 27, 2006 PUI Rules Team)

Steve is towing the line and being polite, I will add honest thoughts, because I can and dont need to toe the line!

*judging was very haphazard-20 minutes for judges to decide weither or not you could play 62 cards in a deck
20 minutes, I think not...maybe 5 tops and thats because the head judge had to rule it and was tied up with other things, I will give you that a few rulings were wrong but as Russ said........got an issue, get a tissue - Actually he made it clear that if you are not happy with a ruling to call him.

*discrimination-well my friend was just starting her game and was insulted by her opponent because she was from wales and then all he got was a warning for calling her X and counting her deck before the game and looking through her deck face side up.
Always two sides to a story - The comment from Luke was wrong and he knew that but then it was a reply to the "London scum comment" she made before. QQmore

*structure-the event was all over the place juniors and all other devisions were almost sitting right next to each other wen it could have been done seperately or at least more apart from wat they did do.
And this makes a difference because??? You all ready moaned that the judges took too long, moving all age groups to other areas would have been a nightmare for the judges.

*time-well someone i was with was a minute late for giving in his deck list, and the event started about an hour and a half later yet he still recieved a first round game loss for it.
I will agree with this apart from it wasn't 90 minutes later but again rules are rules, blank deck lists were all over the event and online prior to the event, not really an excuse for not handing in on time, there should have been a 5 minute warning over the PA system.

*attitude-the over all attitude that you recieved from people at the front desk while giving in deck lists and then later if their was a problem very very picky.
180 Players......you want them to sit down and have a cup of tea and a catch up on how your cat is and is Aunt Betty still having trouble with her war wound?
Rules are rules, some forgot to put their name on the deck list, others their Pop ID, others only had half a deck, if you can fill a deck list in by now and know your own name and Pop ID then I am sure it becomes very tiresome!

*the shop sorry but rip off much custom made mats 40 pound what wen you can get better ones for 30 pound and no web address on them as well as deck sleeves saying that they contain 60 wen the packaging clearly states 50(this may not be true as they may give u the extra 10 but not sure)
Dont buy them? Why moan? there were plenty of people trading for sleeves and boxes and mats

*stupid and pathetic-all the stupid rules that i heard was rediculos e.g. it's ilegal to have your deck tilted to either side, you can play fossils wen u start if you have no other basics in you opening hand. These were just aweful next time if i go i will print off the offical rules and carry it with me.
You already got owned on the rules above, I'll not rub salt into the wound, yes I am that kind!

sorry but this kinda just put me off the nats and anoter thing is that well time organzation was aweful and that i hope to god that worlds will be organized better than this not for me but for the people who go.
Going to guess you didn't make the cut.....I could be wrong but sheesh you are bitter, either you are Emokid 2009 or you was at a different event, pretty sure 99.9% of the people at the event had a great time at a decent venue that took a lot of hard work to organise and the staff on the day did a great job. I only heard complements from the other parents there.

Nobody will miss you if you dont come next year, perhaps you will have learnt to speeeeel by then and stop talking from the wrong end of your body.

To behonest with you this years Nationals ran alot more fluently that any before. There werent any major blunders, your always going to have minor mistakes there only human. And considering I have been to every STS to Nationals in the UK since 1999, I have to say that Chris/Ben/Russ/Kish did an excellent job in ensuring that no one left with any ill feeling. I was quite surprised to read this post, even at 11pm, when I left there was no animosity in the air at all. Infact I was quite surprised that Chris & Ben was laughing and joking when all of just wanted to go home,lol........
One other thing, I dont think many people like yourself appreciate how much work and effort that goes on behind the scenes. These guys forfeit the opportunity to try and win trips to Worlds, just for two boxes of product. I mean no amount of product can compensate for the chance to play at Worlds. Fair enough its an ego trip for someone like Kish, jk.........I know I speak for the majority in saying it was a great day as a whole.
As for the ruling of the fossil, I dont agree with it, but its the Compedium that has the final say on it. And no one forced you to play it, it was entirely your own choice. And the rules are online for everyone to view beforehand, Im also pretty sure there are threads debating the ruling??
As for the shop, you know those playmats are exclusive to UK Card And Games, so I dont honestly know where you can see it for Ł30. If you could forward me the link? Im looking out to get one myself. For those of you that know, the only way to actually get that other than buy it is to win one at Bournemouth.

I would only like to point out that the above didnt happen in this way. An insult was thrown the moment Paige sat down to the table.

Personally I think it was addressed well enough by the judging staff and the action taken was fair.

Granted the tournament was a bit hectic, but to be expected with the vast turnout and 3 division tournaments. The time where we were waiting for pairings for round 4 (I think) was the funniest, when the staff thought they were put up, announced it so, and 20 minutes later asked why everyone wasnt seated to find out that the pairings werent put up XD.

I enjoyed myself and will probably attend next year.

Can I just point one other thing out, If the deck was shuffled or piled shuffled face up by the opponent im sure that it would of been pointed out to the judge. I mean who wants there deck to be scouted and there would of been a more severe penalty. As for shuffling people pile shuffle to avoid stacking and especially at National where your playing people you might have never seen before. On this particular occasion it was just unfortunate that there was more than 60 cards.
And Luke`s comments were uncalled for but in fairness, there was alot of banter throughout the day. I cant speak for his remarks, but I know for fact he didnt mean it personally.I`m sure if you`ve been on the forums that long you will know that he of the most nicest upstanding guys your going to meet on the UK scene.

You know there was six of one and half a dozen of another, to the situation after this particular incident. Whenever one of your guys walked behind me they pretended to hit me, but i took that as a joke rather than take offense to it. Likewise when they would try to insult me after i asked them what table we were sitting at. It was just pure banter, I dont see any of them on here trying to make the situation more significant if not relevant to your criticism of how nationals itself was run. I think personally that your just bitter by the fact that you recieved the game loss and didnt make the cut. And having seen how the Cut was dominated by those you disliked aggravated the situation.

I remember how when i was playing one of your guys he was one of the nicest guys i have met, we sat down, we joked a little, and we did what we were meant to do, play the game in a freindly environment. When it was over, we shook hands and walked away, no hard feelings, nothing.

Luke

Sure, but to be honest I have nothing against you. I also didn't receive any game loses. I didn't even have to bother a judge. Only one point when I asked about replacing Broken Time-Space with another to shorten my hand for an Uxie drop. He did a good job on explaining it to me. I have zero complaints really as I had a good day. Just the whole insulting someone for where they are from was sorta uncalled for, but I laughed it off. I laughed back at you when you asked what table you were on mate. Swings and roundabouts I spose.

Again, I'd like to point out, no remarks were made from where you were. We didnt even know where you personally came from until round 5 after a round with one of your friends.

Offense was taken (as let's face it, nobody likes to be insulted, especially at our first high level event). I'm sure we'd all like to put this as water under the bridge and move on.

Not asking for any sympathy towards the judging team, but just for the record, we were there from 7am and worked a solid 14+ hour day without break... how's that for commitment from the team... and all because we wanted to bring the community the best Nationals we could.

Always a shame that inevitably someone leaves disappointed, but the whole team is there for the good of the game and I think its fair to say the vast majority of people had a really fantastic day... in my humble opinion that what its all about!

And as ever, we live and learn... no doubt we'll be back next year... with more players than last year. Let's see if we can top 200 next year! Now there's a challenge for the Pokemon community... not just the judges!

To be honest, Paige wasnt that angry about the roundloss, more of with the fact that an insult was thrown her way for no reason.

what makes me believe in what she says? about 3 years of friendship and about 2 as my fiance makes me believe that.

Sounds like we're done.

Also note this.
I almost deleted this whole thread because of the non-PG word used in the first post and quoted in multiple posts after that.

Warnings will be issued.
However, future use of non-PG terms in a post, even as a quote WILL get infractions.

If you're quoting it, we still have to mod it, ya? Even if you didn't "say" it first. It's still there in your post causing us work.
