Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that some of Groundbreakers slipped out in stores. It was never officially released, but some figures still went to retail.

We had them, at least the starter packs, in the stores here. Groundbreakers was officially released, just with a limited distribution.

From informed opinions, these figures appear to be made from legitimate parts.
One may notice that one of the stickers is rotated off of the way it should have been applied, but other than that, an educated opinion would be that these are from a test or sample run.

Or someone grabbed the discarded pieces, put them together, and made some cool figures.

Bayleef, oh, so close to a good Pokemon.

I gotta throw this out there, the figures from the TFG were Gashapon in Japan. The spinning bases are new, but the figures glued on top of them were molded for a gashapon game in Japan. I have a Bulbasaur, but saw a half dozen or so others that were released as TFGs. I doubt these are fakes, but it's possible they are prototypes with those alredy produced figs glued onto test bases.

The figures are not randomly put onto bases with random attack stickers.
The right figures are with the right stickers and on the bottom of the base, the set and promo info is all correct.
This is the right stuff, not pieces slopped together randomly from parts scavenged.

You're half right. The company producing the TFG molds was Kaiyodo, who are known for doing high quality Pokemon PVCs. The most common way in Japan to acquire one of these PVCs is from a bottletop. because in Japan they actually reward customers for buying things like soft drinks. They don't re-use molds actually, while they have some figures that were repeats for them. If they had done a Pokemon before, they'll sometimes to do something similiar but different. On a random note, does anyone know if the game ever launched in Japan? Because honestly, I could see THAT being the real death of the Trading Figure Game.

Thanks for the pics mom!

Nice to see that these remain consistant with the XX/42 numbering system that the others had.
Gives them more chance of being real than if they didn't.

just clarifying the PKMNcollector's position on bootlegs! the sellers who have these sets are from hong kong, which while every HK seller doesn't produce fake merch only, a large majority pump out very awful bootleg figures ( http://community.livejournal.com/hells_pokemart/ ). it's just best to be wary buying from china, sadly :( but sometimes it turns out great, like...

with these figures! so far our community's bought a few of every set, and whereas HK sellers are famous for sending you something completely different from the photo, these have apparently been great. on top of that, the attacks/etc on the bases are legitimate.

so are they bootlegs, or stock that began getting produced before receiving the axe? honestly we don't know. for now we're calling them "unofficial" just since they never got an official release. some members think they are bootlegs and others think they are 100% the real deal. but some definitely ARE a bit off... paintjobs aren't AS nice... while others look 100% legit. so who can be sure? unless a POP official told us.

anyway, here's some pics from the set i have coming in soon...

Nice!
You'll never get a TPCi employee to make any kind of comment on these on the record, though.
They just couldn't.

Hi everyone! I am new here :) I have bought a set of those, and I have to say that they are stunning :)
One thing I noticed is that they are exact copies of the original.
1)They have the correct numerical order, that they would have if the set ever got released.
2)The Manaphy Darkrai and new Pikachu figure also has the correct black star promo number( 06, 07, 08) With 04 Being Dialga and 05 Palkia, the two promo of Groundbreakers.
3)They introduce two new special condition just like in every set, though I am not certain which two. ( the first set had Paralyzed and Poisoned, Second set had Asleep and either Burned, Confused or Frozen, and the remaining two are new to this third "unofficial" set.
4)The sculptors written on the bottom sticker of the figure are the ones that made the first set(though they could have just copied the info) but the figures really look like their style.
5)All the figures shown in the promo picture of set 3

I liked this game a lot, especially since Nintendo took the TCG away from Wizard all these years back. I cannot afford the rotation of the game, and really like participating in tournaments... and I really like pokemon, so I got fond of this game really quick, and I have done some digging about it as you can see

I can take high res photos of the figures I have if you want me too :)

Those figures are absolutely gorgeous. I've been contemplating buying a set once I get money for the Lt. Surge TFG. Hopefully they're still being made by the time that happens.

They're not "still being made".
They're selling off a stash of a pre-production run, it appears.
Once they run out, that's it.
