100HP(+20 with the normal Espeon) and a Psychic weakness don't really do good for you, and neither does getting totally blocked by DGX.
Someone will make a working Eeveelution deck, Tops in a BR or CC and then the card will be pretty much forgotten. Saying this without really looking at the rest of the furry family. 4/10 |

Attack is lacking, and the
really isn't all that good. Sadly, not such a good card. 4/10

Not really the best card ever. Not the worst...but not the best :/
30 for {P}{C} is pretty bad, and remove 1 damage from each of your pokemon??? If you want that, just use Nidoqueen RR. 100 hp for a stage 1 isn't bad, x2 {P} weakness is ok except for when facing Gengar, its PokeBody isn't that helpful but can be used to shape a eeveelutions deck. By itself- 3/10 (cool artwork as always) W/ an Eevee deck- 3.5/10 |

Seems like it should be the basis of any functioning Eeveelution deck, but considering the best Eeveelutions' attacks all revolve around evolution-spamming (which Espeon can't do), she's a bit of a third wheel. The most she does for an Eevee deck, really, is provide some walling (140 HP w/ espeon + belt, which should be included in every Eevee deck anyway) and stalling, either by healing or just copying some other attack.
Given the choice between this and Espeon MD, though, I would take MD. 4/10, which seems to be the general consensus. |

This card should not have been a prime and has little to no practical uses. For shame, TPC. I feel sympathy for anyone who saw that they pulled a prime in their pack, only to move the preceding cards from in front of it and discovered this blunder. I mean, come on. What is this card really going to do? Exploit your opponent's psychic weakness without jeopardizing the HP boost Espeon on your bench? Give me a break!
This would have considered a weak rare, had it been released during the Platinum era. Update: lmao @ me being the only one so far who voted for this as a "Collectible Card", then pulling it as the best rare I got in my first booster draft hours later. What irony. Pokebody is 'OK' but not much, the attack is bad, HP isn't the best, and weakness is pretty bad. |

No wonder this card was a prize and not an actual card from a set in japan. Not a very good attack. The normal espeon has a better attack. Bad weakness. Retreat not good enough for a prime. No resistance. Good pokebody (probably the best thing about it) is shut down DGX. So:
Limited 7/10 Modified 4/10 |

Today's CotD is Espeon Prime from UD, a decent support option for Eeveelution decks. Statwise, 100 HP is good for a Stage 1, x2 Weakness to
is meh, no Resistance is common, and to Retreat is cheap. Evolution of Memories is what makes Espeon Prime so intriguing, his Poke-Body basically letting him mimic any attack of any of your Pokemon evolved from Eevee, giving you yet another option to attack with. Solar Ray is ok, ![]() for 30 isn't great, but healing a damage counter off all your Pokemon isn't bad. You'll probably be too busy mimicking other attacks to bother with Solar Ray anyways.Modified - 5/10 (In an Eeveelutions deck it's particularly useful, however Eeveelutions itself isn't such a hot deck atm, besides the standalone Umbreon non-Prime from UD) Limited - 4/10 (Great HP, but the attack isn't that great, and his usefulness really depends on what you have in terms of Eeveelutions; might even be worth passing on and keeping safe in a binder) Unlimited - 1/10 (No use here, poor attack and no one uses Eeveelutions here anyways) |

Espeon Prime is a funny type of card. Whether you rate it as a great card, a collectible card, or anything in between, you are giving it a true and fair rating. As a tech card, since that is this Prime's role, it is only as good as the Eeveelutions it's supporting.
In a Leafeon deck it plays a vital role. It gives you an alternate cheap attacker so you can protect your Leafeon LV X to some degree on your bench. You have the ability to snag a couple of prizes without the risk of losing your Energy acceleration. It allows you to capitalize on your opponent's Psychic Weak Pokemon such as Vileplume. In games where you are facing a counter to it, such as against DialgaChomp, you simply don't put it in play. That's how techs work. In a deck based around Umbreon, it's mediocre and much more situational. It honestly doesn't do a lot for the deck as the Espeon from Majestic Dawn would make much better use of the slot Espeon Prime could fill. It could be worked in to provide a little support for type advantage, but should only be used if you can fit it in seamlessly and without sacrificing the Majestic Dawn Espeon. In any other Eeveelution, Espeon Prime falls flat, but that's only because the rest of the deck also fails. It could be fun to run at League where win/loss is of no concern, but it won't gain any notoriety from these types of decks in competitive play. As long as you give it good cards to bounce off of, it remains fantastic. It will never be the weakest link in your Eeveelution chain, but if that chain is old and rusty to start with... I'm sure you get the picture. Solid 8/10 if used properly Last edited by waynegg; 09/23/2010 at 11:18 AM. |

It works very well in Eevee-lution decks, but at the same time, that doesn't give that much of an advantage. Although you could use Rainbow Energy on Espeon, most of the Eevee-lutions work well due to their type. Unless you're up against a Psychic-Weak deck, Evolution Memories may not be too effective.
It's still a fun card nonetheless, in my opinion. |

Espeon seems to be a unique Eeveelution. Its body can let it use any attack from any Eeveelution you have out. You still need the necessary energy to use the attack however. Since some Eeveelutions have some pretty good attacks, Espeon packs lots of variety in its attacks. Yet, it could still use its own attack, Solar Ray. 30 for two, you remove 1 damage counter from each of your Pokemon. Well, now that's quite some nice variety of all kinds.
100 HP is awesome for a stage 1. The psychic weakness hurts, and the retreat cost is average. Overall 4/10 in modified, 3/10 in limited, and 5/10 in unlimited In modified, this card is rather decent. There are some nice Eeveelutions to use here, so perhaps Espeon Prime can be helpful. It even provides some nice healing for the Eeveelutions too. Yet, Espeon does have problems, namely including that it Dialga G is a massive problem since it is locking the body, and Espeon won't really be used that much nowadays in a Eeveeluion deck as the other Eeveelutions would be used more. Regardless, I can really see Espeon being a good Rogue deck. In limited, this card is a bit below average. The body and attack is useful to use, but a major issue here is that Espeon Prime will be a bot tough to use. It might be tough to pull out several Eeveelutions to take advantage of the body, so that is a downer. Regardless, Espeon can still work. In unlimited, this card is actually going to be decent. We have a lot of good Eeveelutions in unlimited, so perhaps Espeon Prime can be useful when using the body. It might still carry the same problems like modified, but I can really see the potential Espeon Prime has here. |
