Not bad. Disconnect for 40 is a little underpowered in today's format compared to Manectric EX's, but it's still a decent attack for a non-EX. Actually, T2 trainer lock isn't all that bad, as that's a crucial turn where many Stage 2's drop their Rare Candies to up and evolve. Still, I can't see a game-long trainer lock similar to that of Manectric EX's being as beneficial, especially with cards like Vileplume in the format. All in all, Disconnect is a decent attack situationally and isn't bad for setting up 2HKO's. The othat attack, Lightning Crash, is great with Eelektross as a partner. Being able to do 80 anywhere and retreat out of it is awesome, you can even do them back to back with multiple Zebstrika out. I can't see a deck centered around Lightning Crash, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Zebstrika popping up in Zekrom or even Magnezone variants to pick up on some sniping.

Zebstrika is a cool card. One sided Trainer lock is great, especially when you can get it T2. Only problem is being able to keep up with these fast Basics.

Today's CotD (barely on time) is Zebstrika from ND, a bit interesting I suppose. Statwise 90 HP is average for a Stage 1, x2 Weakness to
is meh, no Resistance is common, and no Retreat Cost is great. Disconnect deals a moderate 40 for ![]() and prevents your opponent from using Items (basically any Trainer not a Supporter or Stadium) during their next turn, adding a nice bit of disruption. Lightning Crash comes with a cost of ![]() ![]() , plus having to discard all on Zebstrika, to deal 80 to one of your opponent's Pokemon, making it a bit pricey but decently powerful (and played with Eel makes recovery a non-factor). But eh...in terms of teching Vileplume is easier for the Trainer/Item shutdown, and there are better 3 Energy attacks, but still Zebstrika isn't that bad all things considered.Modified - 4/10 - Kinda useful, but his low HP ultimately kinda dooms him as he's easily OHKOed by a variety of commonly seen Pokemon...still, maybe for a fun deck? Limited - 8/10 - Good for decks, just don't stock too much on himUnlimited - 1/10 - Not much use here, weak and easy to KO |

Zebstirka is a rather interesting addition to the format, and is actually quite the surprise considering what the other three Zebsritka did. It sports a fair amount of pros and cons, so let's get the cons out of the way first.
Zebstrika has a lower HP count than most main attackers in the format, and while 90 HP can avoid a large amount things including itself, any EXs weaker attack and Mewtwo EX. Two energy for 40 damage is a little on the underwhelming thing, but this is a rather small complaint. However the small damage limits him to being more of a tech or combo then a solo star. Disconnect is a really good attack as there's no way for your opponent to get out of it (not that getting out of other trainer locks is easy), and Lightning Crash knocks out most basics and deals a rather big blow to EXs and other Pokemon and can be combined with Catcher to stall out your opponent. So good effects and small damage is only mediocre but with good alternate attackers like Zekrom EX can turn it into a deadly force. Modified: 6/10 Limited: 9/10 Unlimited: 1/10 (better alternatives if you really want to snipe and snipe isn't all that great here) |

Hello Manectric ex, my old friend, I've come to talk with you again. One of my favorite cards from years long past comes back in a mildly-weaker form. For the cost of 10 HP and not being able to Stadium-lock, Zebstrika gains free retreat, and gives up only one prize instead of two when Knocked Out. I do miss my Manectric ex / Ampharos / Dragonite d deck, but its mantle was taken up by Blastzel, not anything like Zebstrika / Eelectrik. The power of an ex, something that gave up two prizes, back in 2005 now cannot even compete in the massive amounts of damage soaked up and put out in our current format. Power creep killed the Lightning Bolt star.
