3DS Success!!!

Just a little tidbit for you...

Quote:
The 3DS has sold 4.5 million units, compared to the original DS's 2.3 million.

With a library of over 100 physical titles, the 3DS has sold 9 million games; the DS sold 5 million with 58 titles.

The eShop, which wasn't available in the DS's first year, has over 500 games available. Nintendo wouldn't provide sales statistics, but did mention that on average a consumer downloads five games or programs.

In terms of general revenue, including software and accessories, the 3DS has generated $1.2 billion; the DS managed $540 million in its first year.
So, yeah. 3DS = Success. Pure and simple. Whether or not it can sustain said success is another thing. But it's a success beyond almost anything anybody could have predicted.

Whoa! That is really nice to know! I thought that the 3DS wasn't doing too well and even with the price drop many people wouldn't bother anyway, but this is AWESOME! :D

Too bad it didn't triple it, cause then I could make some horrible jokes...actually for everyone's sanity that might be a good thing.

Anyway I heard about the recent sales figures a little bit ago, and it's really nice to hear to show that the 3DS isn't the abject failure that so many people like to make it sound as.

Q. Can I use Rotom's "Mischievous Trick" Poke-POWER when I have no cards in my deck, to put a Prize card into my deck?
A. No, you can't. That would be far too mischievous. (HS:Undaunted FAQ; Sep 9, 2010 PUI Rules Team)

Heh I waited for the price cut :P. I feel bad for my friends who bought it the month it came out xD. 3DS was doing well even before the cut though. With LoZ: OoT and Four Swords it did pretty well. Not to mention Pokedex3D which people are slamming. It isn't so bad.

Still took a price cut to start selling like hotcakes, but yeah, can't really call it a flop now, and it'll likely still stay ahead of the Vita.

To be fair the price drop was extremely predictable.

But yeah. Vita what?

I'm glad the 3DS is successful so far, but I don't understand why all of you are calling it beating out the Vita. The Vita is in the EXACT same spot that the 3DS was at launch; it's too expensive and has a poor game library. Give it a few month for a better library and a price drop and I think we'll start seeing it do pretty well I think. It's just as good of a console as the 3DS, and I'd like to see 2 successful handhelds.

PlayStation Vita. It looks bodacious. Look it up. Yes I used the word bodacious.

The main problem with that is Sony =/=Nintendo, I mean how long did it take them to drop the price on the PSP? Sure they dropped it on the Go fairly quickly, but it was rehashed tech and even more limiting than the older PSPs quite frankly (making it more on par with the GB Micro in terms of flops, in that it tried to appear small and trendy).

Long story short, they aren't going to drop the price any time soon; if they're desperate it might drop $50 or so by Xmas/holiday season, but considering you have to buy one of their lame new proprietary memory cards just to use it, that $50 savings isn't really that much at all. Not to mention their titles are also pretty pricey, even compared to some of the 3DS stuff out there. I'm sorry, it has some nice tech under there (and when hacked can even remote play PS3 games, which is a neat trick), and the dual sticks is what Nintendo should've done, but it's probably gonna be another footnote in the handheld war like it's always been. Unless they really push it and are willing to lose more money on the system to put it into people's hands, I just don't see it doing that well.

I would kind of hope Sony has learned from past mistakes.

Time will tell, though.
