Terrakion on its own!
So now everyone knows, that MonoTerrakion won a State Championship.
Monoterrakion is pretty good vs. most decks, as you can play it with Eviolite(+Defender) to avoid being OHKOed, while you 2HKO everything. It's only issue might be not that favorable MUs vs. Durant, TyRam and Ross. I think this deck is definitly worth a discussion. We might have a new Terrakion+Techs Deck in the end. (already working on that, because it really seems to have big potential)

I played it in provincials. Me, Jacob Lessage discovered the deck but with his friend Curran Hill. Jacob placed top 4 while I placed top 8 with the deck. The deck needs other attackers besides terrakion but it's solid.

Is the Pokémon lines simply 3/4 Terrakion, 2 Mewtwo and maybe a Cleffa? Or does it have other attackers?

It only plays 4 Terrakion.

Yeah, I have tested this deck for a while now, and it is really good, but mainly in a meta of Eels.
I use 4 Terrakion and 2 Mewtwo.

Hmh I really think that there should be Black Belts and an attacker that can hit towards 180 dmg with Black Belt.
Deck could get big skillplay due to timing etc. ... I like the idea of a deck like this alot, because I am actually playing EelZone with high Terra count and Blackbelts to be able to answer everything.

Terrikon/Landorous made top 4 at one state.

Terrakion/Landorus is nice, I only see the problem, that Landorus gets kind of useless after the first 2-3 turns, except for spreading with it. Further more Landorus does less damage than Terrakion, what doesn't help the deck vs. decks like TyRam, Ross, etc. ....
It's a good solution to speed the deck up and make it more efficient, but not to beat the real big guys...

Landorus helps vs. Durant. Do you need mewtwo in the deck?

at least 1 Mewtwo should be fine, just to be sure, because your oppenent can make use of it if you don't play one, because then he could play some in late game and you would have no chance to win...
Thanks that mostz EelBoxs don't play more than 1 copy...

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the deck, I'll tell you briefly what it does. The deck aims to do a consistent 90 dmg each turn. This is accomplished with the use of the wonderful tool Exp Share. When a Terrakion goes down, another Terrakion can be charged up in one turn and Retaliate for 90. Against Eelektrik decks you are basically doing 180 dmg each turn. I really think Terrakion has potential in a metagame where over 50 % of all decks are weak to fighting.
The deck already won at least 1 states, so I'd say this deck is something you should prepare for, especially if you happen to be an Eels player. Sadly, the deck doesn't function very well on PTCGO due to Exp Share not working there. At all. And that kinda messes up the strategy. @ Bidoof I don't think you need Mewtwo in this deck. It sounds crazy I know, but if you play enough catchers and lost removers you should be able to ge around mewtwo. The list that won a states didn't play any Mewtwo :D Not to mention that adding Mewtwo would mess upp consistensy. Big time. Terrakion doesn't like DCE at all :(

I think that's obvious, but thanks that you explained it again^^
Hmh real life testing's still an option, but really sad story =/ However adding a second/third attacker to the deck won't hurt consistency, though it would definitly change the way it works.

Terrakion is purely a product of the Zeel hype/dominance/etc. Because Zeel was obviously going to be the most played deck this weekend, Terrakion was/is a great play. I would expect a push back against Zeels next week. So, Terrakion will likely be a much more risky proposition.

If Zeel is going to have a push back, things like this will appear: Terrakion/Mewtwo/Pachirisu/Shaymin(/Zekrom)
CMT would have problems vs. this, eels too...

Seems like it has a bad durant and cmt matchup.
And anything not zekrom. |

The terrakion deck that thrashed my Zekeels deck in OKC won, but he was too worried about Regigigas EX. That allowed me to set up, but I couldn't keep an attacker charged due to Land Crush OHKO's , so he still won. I think he had some Tyrogue as well. I didn't see a Mewtwo, but because of Regigigas EX and DCE, I assumed he had one or two.
I was hoping to sleeve one up for next weekend, but is seems a lot of Zekeels will go into hiding... |

It doesn't really have a bad Durant matchup. Once you get 3 energy on it, you're dropping an ant a turn unless they have Sp. Metal AND Eviolite. The version I've seen runs weird things like Judge to help improve the Durant odds, too.

The deck hands down winds vs electric anything, beats Durant, and is like 50-50 with CMT (40-60 if the CMT player knows how to play against it).

I have a legitimate question: How does this deck handle something like a Tornadus with an Eviolite? I know I run those in my Zekrom/Eel list, and it's how I've dealt with fighting in the past. Have people stopped playing Tornadus in Eel decks, or have Terrakion players found a way to deal with it?

You can still make it a two shot if you hit the Tornadus before it gets an Eviolite, or with Ruins of Alph. Also Ruins is a good Kickgym for the CMT matchup.
---------- Post added 03/12/2012 at 03:54 AM ---------- I think there should also be a discussion of other Big Basics + Expshare. With EXs dealing 150+ damage, Eviolite becomes less of a priority in decks like 6Corners or Electrode. I think other Big Basics besides Terrakion could make viable decks with EXPshare as the engine. |

So do you think we will see cards teched into electric decks to try and and prepare for a terrakion attack?
I was looking over grass types seeking something that could be slotted in as a terrakion buster without having to mess up the energy profile and the closest I could up with would a Tangrowth and its grind attack. Of course that a fairly weak counter as its a stage 1 and would need four energy for an OHKO on terrakion. Still, its a thought. |

Eviolite'd ShayminEX is the same as Tornadus with Eviolite. You should be expecting it and have a way to 2HKO it. The prize trade will even itself out.
