Playing cards with the same name

So you can play the old Pokéball in a deck provided you have translations because they have the same card name, even though they have different text.
So can I play Magenzone SF in place of a Magnezone prime if I had translations?
Ok sweet deal

No, that's not the same thing.
Look at a set that has two different versions of the same Pokemon. Could you play one as the other?
No, that would be silly.

For Trainers and Energy cards, all cards of the same name are the same card where you use the text of the most recent printing.
Note that there are a very few exceptions to this, such as the Alph Lithograph cards and Pokemon Center.

For Pokemon, for it to be considered the same card, it must have the same or virtually the same text.
There are no current Pokemon in Modified that are such reprints of card from earlier, non-modified sets.
