PAX Prime Pokemon events 2012

Hey, we will be setting up some events at PAX this year. Stop by and join in the fun!

Friday
10 AM to 6 PM Learn to Play the TCG demos
11 AM Free Unlimited TCG Tournament - limited to 16 players
2 PM Theme Deck Challenge - Battle with a preconstructed deck $10 entry fee, limited to 16 players

Saturday
10 AM to 6 PM Learn to Play the TCG demos
11 AM Theme Deck Challenge - Battle with a preconstructed deck. $10 entry fee. Limited to 16 players
2 PM Free Unlimited Tournament - 16 players max.

Sunday
11 AM Free Modified TCG tournament
3 PM - 6 PM Unlimited 8 person single elimination pick up tournaments

Edit: Removed VG events, because that is another department's responsibility. Sorry Firestorm XVI

Would definitely be up for one last VGC '12 format video game tournament if I don't have any panels I need to see at that time. Is there a prize? =)

For the theme deck challenge, do we need to provide our own theme decks or will there be loaners?

I have not decided on prizing yet. I'll find something cool to give away.

We will have theme decks to use in the Theme Deck Challenge tournament. The deck is yours to keep after the tournament is over, hence the $10 entry fee.

I have to cancel the VG tournaments. Apparently we were scheduling with the Collectible Card Game/Trading Card Game department, and they can't approve Video Game events.

And if there is more interest in the TCG tournaments, we may be able to borrow some space from the Learn to play area.

good to know this is going on david, I tried to start this on my own a few years back, but became too busy with enforcing (volunteer staff at show). I'll definately stop by at some point though not sure if i can help as i usually work the main theater.

yeah handheld stuff is a different department then tabletop, tabletop is run by fatherfletch while handheld is scoots i think.

also if you dont manage to setup a vg tournament be aware the fan run PAX Pokemon League is going on http://paxpokemonleague.net/ which is a fan event of finding the 8~ gym leaders battling them and winning badges. might want to try coordinating with them if possible.

Thanks for the heads up. That's too bad. Might not have been able to make it based on what was going on anyway I suppose!

And yeah treyh37, I saw that a few months ago but they're using rules that will likely wind up with the battles taking far too long. I don't really want to spend over 8 hours playing Pokemon while at PAX so probably won't be opting in for that. If only they used VGC rules instead of a custom ruleset =/

At previous PAX events certain tournaments were provided a medal for the winners. Did this happen for pokemon?

I noticed on Sunday it's going to be a modified tournament. Are we using HGSS-on BLW-on format?

BLW-on of course. Of course there is a Autumn Battle Road at Shane's that day too.

How long do you think you'll be keeping registration open for on stuff like the Theme Deck Challenge? I might want to try that out on Saturday but I want to attend the Metal Gear Panel ending at 2PM. Also, which sets and do we get to pick? =P As a new player I might try and grab one with some staples I don't have yet!
