Espeon DE vs Muk UD

Espeon Solar Revelation Ability: Prevent all effects of your opponents attacks, except damage, done to each of your pokemon that has any energy attached to them.

Muk Sludge Drag Attack: Switch the depending pokemon with one of your opponent's benched pokemon. The new defending pokemon is now confused and poisoned.

Question: It seems pretty clear that sludge drag couldn't confuse and poison a pokemon with energy attached; but my question is whether it could do the switch at all (assuming that at least one of the pokemon that would be switched have energy attached). Is the switch an effect of the attack?

Thanks!

If the Benched Pokemon chosen has an energy card attached to it, that would prevent the switch from occurring.
And, since there is no "new Defending Pokemon", the Confused and Poisoned conditions would not be placed.
