What's the deal with Iowa...

Only one league in the entire state? You'd think there would be one in Des Moines or Cedar Rapids seeing as how they are the two largest cities.

Why is there no poke players in iowa hardly?

I don't know- I went out to Cedar Rapids on a trip in 2003, they had a league listed for there and 2 other places, ames and marshalltown. I believe those two still had one, but I dont know why there was still an online listing for the place in CR, the owner told me that had been discontinued since that summer.

I personally live in a state where all 3 or 4 leagues that I know of are around Oklahoma City area, which about a 100 minute drive away. There is no league in Tulsa that I know of... I'm going to be looking for a place to hold major events like Cities and pre's, since OK has only one place to hold those...

I'm the most traveled player in the US for 04-05- no place is too far for me if I want to play there. I'm a triple type, AK/IL/OK-an.

Jaeger that is totally bizarre that your gym leader moved to Manchester my hometown. I mean the town only has like 6k people, so what a coincidence.

Iowa used to have more leagues... in the fad days. Guess what? People stopped playing, other leagues closed. This often sours locations that would host a league now on the idea: they got burned once, why risk it again? There used to be two in Ames, but the second one was never overly strong and eventually they didn't have anyone to run it. This is another large problem: finding someone competetant to run league. I used help run the one that closed, but I just had to devote more time to class work at the same time another guy moved, another guy quit, etc.

The thing is, Ames is located well (arguably better than Des Moines is) for central Iowa. So even though it's one town, it's "servicing" a large portion of the state. Of those who go to Ames for League, many (such as yours truly) are traveling from another town/area. So thats fewer people to attend a similarly distant league in an area outside of Central Iowa.

Additionally, Des Moines is close enough to Ames that if you want to go to league and have a car (or parent with a car) it's only a 45-60 minute drive.

Finally, the store that sponsor league in Ames also has a Des Moines location, so all of our events are well known to players there.
