Pokemon Gauntlet Challenge: Step Right Up!
Note that this is something I got from another forum but that some people here may be interested in.
What is a Gauntlet? A Gauntlet Challenge is a playthrough of any Pokemon game of your choice where you ask your fellow forum-goers to provide you with a gauntlet of challenges to complete over the course of your playthrough. Some of these challenges will be ones that govern how you play the entire game (ex. play on Set mode) and others will be one time challenges (ex. beat Sabrina with a Beedrill). These challenges can be assigned at the start of your game or at set points as you progress. Failing some challenges will have consequences set by the person who gave you the challenge, so be careful! How to Request a Gauntlet: Simply make a post on this topic that includes the following information: - What version of the game you are using for your challenge - To what extent you are able to trade - What difficulty level you want the challenges you are given to be at. - When during the challenge you will be taking more challenges. You can take them all at once at the start of your challenge or set it up to receive new ones as you pass various milestones in your game. The points at which you will take new challenges need to be set BEFORE you start your challenge (though the number of challenges you're taking in each section doesn't need to be decided until you reach that section.) - How many challenges you will be taking at each point in your challenge. Remember, the more you request the longer it'll take for you to start your challenges. - Any specific rules and restrictions you want to make on your challenges. Remember, the more restrictions you place the less likely people will be to give you creative challenges. - Record the challenges you are given in the post where you ask for a challenge, so that people can ensure that the challenges they give you don't conflict with ones you've already received. You are also strongly recommended to provide updates of your progress in your playthrough, especially with regards to your progress and experiences with the challenges you are given. This gives more motivation for people to give you interesting challenges! How to Give a Challenge: - Read all the rules and guidelines in the post of the person who you will be giving the challenge to - Post detailing what the challenge is! A challenge can be almost anything, feel free to get creative! Try not to get so complex the person cannot understand it though. - Try to adhere to the difficulty requested by the person who is requesting the challenge. Your challenge CAN be rejected if it does not meet their requirements. - You are limited to one challenge per a section. If the player has set multiple points to receive challenges at, you can give one challenge per an opportunity, but no more. This ensures the most diverse experience for the player and ensures everyone gets a chance to give out challenges. What exactly am I giving out? What you're giving out are "challenges", which are tasks or restrictions intended to make the game more interesting and challenging for the player. These aren't like the Pokemon given out in the Scramble Challange thread, as they do not have to be attached to any Pokemon, and indeed, you are encouraged to stay away from specifying what Pokemon someone must use throughout the game. Think of it more like being something along the vein of a Nuzlocke challenge, only the rules are picked out by other people (and don't necessarily include Pokemon death), and random challenges thrown in to test your metal (like having to solo certain trainers, not use items against certain trainers, beat a certain minigame, etc.) Each challenge only may contain ONE restriction or challenge event, otherwise it breaks the rule above and will get rejected. Rules for Rejections and Reservations: - You can reject any challenges that break your rules or do not fit the difficulty you requested. However, you cannot reject challenges for reasons you did not cover in your initial post. -- Note, sometimes it is simply easier to request changes to the challenge you are given instead of flat out rejecting it. - You may make reservations to give a person a challenge, to ensure your spot is not taken while you are writing the challenge. However, such reservations are only valid for one hour. After that point anyone may take your place if they post before you do. The goal here is to give people time to make good challenges, not to allow people to snatch up all the spots before anyone can post. Tips for Making Good Challenges: - Get creative! Simple challenges like those in the opening paragraph are pretty weak, though you're free to make them. The goal is to make the playthrough as interesting for the player as possible. - Look out for how your challenges interact with other challenges the person has already been given! Sometimes challenges can conflict, making only one possible. Other times a challenge you're giving can make another challenge someone already gave much more difficult. Make sure you read what challenges have already been given to a person before you make your own! - Try to encourage creative solutions with the challenges you give. Challenges that trap a player into one course of action are very rarely fun to play. Examples of good challenges: Quote:

Hi there...
Restarting both ruby and sapphire. I would like challenges for the both of them. I can trade over almost every pokemon from my emerald (all can be bred to level 5). Looking for super difficult challenges, thank you. All challenges given will be put in place the moment I start the game (perhaps next week.) |

Beat every gym leader using only non-damaging moves. I.e. use stuff like leach seed, confuse ray, double team, toxic, etc. but not stuff like tackle, razor leaf etc.
I'll let it be up to you if you want to use stuff like perish song, destiny bond. I'd say no, but they'd technically count.

To add to thunderjolt's challenge. Try to go in without using any items or switching out. Now THAT should add to the challenge.

Also add that for each route, roll a 6 sided die.
1- You may not catch any Pokemon here. 2- You may only catch the first Pokemon you encounter, Nuzlocke style. 3- You may only catch 1 Pokemon, but what it is is your decision. 4- You may only catch 2 Pokemon, and they must both be male. 5- You may only catch 2 Pokemon, and they must both be female. 6- No restrictions! *Erhem* Restarting Red! Challenges would be welcome, medium hard. No trading, but I can Mew Glitch most Pokemon into appearing. I'll take a couple challenges to start, plus adding one after Erika and one after Giovanni. I reserve the right to reject any challenge, but I probably won't.

In the near future White 2 is going to be played for the first time. I've beat Black 2 so it's not a completely new experience for me. By extension beating Black 2 I do have challenge mode available. On my Black (1) cartridge I have access to every Pokemon except Meloetta for breeding purposes. I also have Dream Radar (though I've caught all three Therian and leveled them into the 40s or higher.) I'll take challenges as follows:
3 For beginning of the game (1/3) 3 For beating first three gyms 3 For clearing six gyms 4 for Victory Road and on I'm not guranteeing any speed on this play through since the first game of the series I'll play for breeding and training purposes the second is kind of leisurely, but I'll keep y'all posted on how challenges go. Anything fun and creative is good. What some consider hard I wouldn't and some consider easy I consider hard so don't be afraid to toss out a challenge, but if I feel it's beyond my scope of comfort I may deny it. I do have two DS systems (one obviously being a 3DS since Dream Radar) so trading with myself isn't a problem. @Curry- Challenge accepted Last edited by Trican; 10/31/2012 at 07:23 PM. |

@trican: You may only use Pokeballs and Premier balls.
Okay, I'm starting my run. I'll still take a challenge each after Erika and Giovanni, but for now I'm good. -Named self Red for nostalgia. -Started with Chamander, named Crimson. -Fetch quests are sooo exciting! -Got balls, immediately went to the forest. Third encounter wasa Pikachu! Named it Lemon. -Backtracked four times because of poison, finally gave up and caught a Nido M. Named Amethyst. -Ah, the Gen 1 RNG. Amethyst took ONE sand attack and missed 5 tackles in a row. -_- -Training in the forest is easier with a poison type. XD Current Team: Crimson the lv. 9 Charmander Amethyst the lv. 9 Nidoran M Lemon the lv. 4 Pikachu

I almost did this, but when I got to Gary, only my slowbro was alive. I rolled over his team with Slowbro, but it leveled up to 50 right as I beat his final Arcanine. I think the average level for my team was around 43-45 though. Feel free to set the level limit to something else under 49 if you want to try for something harder. I think my team was: Charizard, Vileplume, Golem, Raichu, Lapras, Alakazam, and Slowbro, minus one of them (either Plume or Raichu).

Oh, wow, that'll be fun. Can't evolve until Victory Road is cleared AND can't overgrind... AND have a Pikachu. XD Gauntlet indeed.
*erhem* Sure, why not?! Did a bunch more training in the forest. I forgot that Nidoran M doesn't get Double Kick in this game, so I spent time grinding him for nothing. -_-; Oh well. After a few more levels for luck, I even levelled up Pikachu on the off chance I'd need him. And then, I took on Brock! ....Charmander toasted them. No, seriously. Brock was beaten by a Lv. 12 Charmander. I kept expecting to have to switch, but I only needed a single potion to beat him. Geodude just spammed Defense Curl (which doesn't do anything against Ember anyway) and Onix did nothing but Bide. The first Bide hit me really hard since I forgot that was his signature move, but on my second Ember I burned him. From there it was just a matter of careful growl timing to victory! Current Team: Crimson the Lv. 13 Charmander Amethyst the Lv. 12 Nidoran Lemon the Lv. 10 Pikachu

Defeat the elite 4 and champion using only 1 pokemon, separate from the first challenge so it can be an evolution( still no legendary). You can only use the item you pokemon is holding ie no super potions but he can have an item that heals as long as hes holding it. Beat entire game using only the starters( you can only have 1 of each starter). You can only trade 1 pokemon over at a time and only after you defeat a gym leader. Defeat the first gym leader using the starter you chose. Then trade a second starter(different from the first) for the second gym. You can use previous generations starters but cannot have matching types until you have 1 of each type. Ie you cant have 2 fire types before you have a fire water and grass. No other pokemon can be caught UNLESS its a starter. |

(Whoops forgot to keep updating here)
@Normal Guy: I'll add that after Erika. :) Thanks! - Zoomed through Mt. Moon, picking up Ivory the Clefairy. - Amethyst and Crimson evolved! I'll be seeing those backsprites for quite a while. - Got the Dome Fossil. - Smashed Green. Lemon took out Pidgeotto and Squirtle, and Amethyst did the rest. - Went and visited Bill. YAY SCIENCE. - Took on Misty, and Lemon destroyed her. ^^; That's about as useful as a Pikachu gets all game... *sigh* ... Anyway! Current team: Lemon the Lv. 23 Pikachu Amethyst the Lv. 20 Nidorino Crimson the Lv. 19 Charmeleon Ivory the Lv. 12 Clefairy Next update, we catch some more stuff! (Probably will be edited later today since I've got nothing else to do...) EDIT: - Went back up to Rt, 24 and caught an Abra. Named her Tawny, and stuck her in the front. - Made my way to Vermilion and entered Diglett Cave. - Taught Ivory Bubblebeam and proceeded to switch grind both Ivory and Tawny. - Tawny evolved! Now she's got Confusion, she can actually do stuff. - Plowed my way through SS Anne, soaking up all teh experiencez. - Fought Green again, Tawny and Lemon wrecked him. Lemon's actually still useful, since there are a lot of Flying-types around. - Got Cut. - Entered Surge's gym. Happily, I got the switches on the first try. Tawny destroyed him. - Third badge get! Team: Tawny the Lv. 25 Kadabra Amethyst the Lv. 23 Nidorino Ivory the Lv. 20 Ivory Lemon the Lv. 25 Pikachu Crimson the Lv. 20 Charmeleon
