US Nationals Report - GREAT Weekend!
So this weekend was pretty much the most ridiculous, tiring, and fun weekend of my life.
On Wednesday night, I worked until 10:30 PM, and we left from Wisconsin almost immediately from there, arriving in St. Louis around 11:00 AM after some extended pit stops in Illinois. On Thursday I just chilled around the hotel, but on Friday the true fun started. Friday, June 26th - Professor Cup In the Cup, I managed to draft a pretty junky deck, but I somehow managed to work my way to 4-2. I made the Top 32, and I had to face none other than the famous Chris Fulop. I lost miserably, but it was still way fun (minus my horrible migraine headache). I got the cards I drafted (including another Alakazam 4 Lv. X) and 3 extra boosters. Not too bad for my first year judging! Saturday, June 27th - The Main Event! So it was a great turn out, and I was way prepared after being up until nearly 3 AM the night before. Realize I only played in a couple tournaments this season because I judged the rest, so I wasn't comfortable with any deck. I managed to go 2-2 at Brookfield, WI Cities (with Tyranitar), 3-3 at Wisconsin States (with Rampardos), and 2-1 at New Berlin, WI Spring Battle Road (with Shiftry). I built Gengar to play for Nationals at 2 AM. Round 1 vs Speedrill I get a very quick start and his prizes hurt him a bit. I Gengar swarm and take 6 prizes for the game. 1-0 Round 2 vs Flygon/Weavile I get another relatively quick start, and I pick off stuff on his bench. I end up Poltergeisting Flygon Lv. X for the game. 2-0 Round 3 vs Gengar Here's the mirror, and its kind of a chess match until she gets 3 Unown G into play... really? I fall quickly from there and end up scooping. 2-1 Round 4 vs Galactic Toolbox He sets up a Deafen lock and starts killing Gengar's with Honchkrows. I end up scooping because there is NO hope. 2-2 Round 5 vs Glaceon This should be near an auto-loss for me, but I work my way back, tying the game at 1 prize a piece, picking off a benched Pokemon for the game. 3-2 Round 6 vs Torterrible I have no idea how I won this game. I slowly but surely picked off enough Shaymin, Sceptile, and Torterra for the game. 4-2 Round 7 vs Flygon/Weavile I get 2 Gengar on my first turn, and things go downhill for him from there. 5-2 At this point, it's win and in. Round 8 vs Dialga/Palkia And... fail. Here comes the Deafen lock which shuts down my Trainer-heavy speed list... 5-3 I end up missing the cut on OWPm taking 98th place in the flight. It was a successful day though. Christian C. and Toby N. end up making top cut in their divisions, but they both lose in the first round of the cut. Our group is out. Sunday, June 28th - League Play I meet up with my friends to play some games... talk to Camille (PokeMama) and Dev (Marriland) a bunch, and we play some league games and get some free "swag". We find out there are a couple DSi's as prizes for the league, but we kind of blow it off knowing there is almost NO chance of getting one out of the thousands of games and players. I end up getting some sleeves, a playmat, a binder, and a notebook. I then go play and beat Mike B. on a Gengar coinflip, and we go to report. When we get to the front of the line, I end up drawing a card that says "Pokemon Platinum" and the league leader guy says, "You know what you need to play this Pokemon Platinum game? A DS!" DUDE... I GOT A DSi AND ANOTHER COPY OF POKEMON PLATINUM!!!!!!! I like died!!! We got back about 2 hours ago. What a GREAT weekend! Props: -DSi! -League play -Winning record -Top 32 in Prof Cup -Seeing good friends -Going the farthest south AND west I have ever been -Gengar -Fulop for being sweet -Texting the girly all day every day -POOOOOOOOKA!!! Slops: -Mike B for not getting something better than sleeves -The migraine headache -The long drive both day, night -The really crappy hotel What a great weekend! Later friends! |

There was a guy with friends that cut line and won a DSi. The little kid behind the guy who won the DSi broke down in tears because he had been grinding it out trying to win that for awhile...
That's life..... BUT.... here's the uncool part... When the guy smuggly remarks, "I already have one of these. I don't even need this," the little kids Mother asks the smug young man "How much would you take for that?!" .... the smug winner laughed at the kid and his mother and just walked away laughing... Yeah.... That's not good... I truly hope that wasn't you man.... Other than that, Good job on your rounds. Glad you had fun at Nats this year. |

Me too... the fact that I pulled out wins in most of them proved to me that I'm a better player and deck-builder than I thought I was.
