Stuck...
Hey people, whats going on?
As of right now i just took apart every deck/half built deck that i had... after running one of my decently built busted deck(for terminology see deck type thread) for awhile i loved it and i was doing well with it... i was 3-2 at a br, and 7-3 at league so far... til today... i went 5-7 at league today with scoops from both me and my opponents... it was a sad day for that deck and i guess i just wasnt having good draw/starts... just about every other game... i felt after today it was time to build something else. i'm the type who hates bandwagons and making archetypes... i like to build weird decks with cards not rly looked at/combos no one has seen yet... as of right now... im stuck... i am looking at the cards i have sitting before me and cant even think of a busted/rogue to play with... i can see some combo here or there or a little of this and that but then its like man its just one line away from being a bandwagon deck... well all in all, i'm stuck and i dont know how to get out of this dilema... i guess i'll just have to wait until it hits me(prolly in the literal sense as someone throws a booster pack at my head or i fall down the stairs or something...) so what can i do to try and think of something? does anyone else run into this problem? i know it cant be just me. well anyway back to the drawing board...

I hated that I couldn't find any cards that could be used to make a top notch deck (Eg, LuxApe, Dialga G Lock) So I used my old deck (Grass and Electric) I entered a Battle Road and asked some players to help tweak my deck. This really nice Master helped me make my deck better, by rounding it down to only Grass and basing it on Beautifly PT. It's a fun Rogue deck that focuses on Special Conditions. It doesn't do well against LuxApe or anything like that, but I'm going to fix that up.
I saw some really cool builds, like Gliscor and Tyranitar. To get some inspiration, try staring into the booster pack wall at your nearest Target. Stare at them until you can see the color dots that make the picture, a la Ferris Bueller.

For inspiration I put all my cards (not really all of them but a lot) and just look for a card or cards that might work well. If it's something that you like, and you have made it yourself, you can beat any deck.

I pick a card or two that I like and then try pour over the rest of my cards looking for others that will work well with it. I like maximizing the use of special conditions, so I focus on trying to getting a group that works really well together e.g. Mightyena, Muk, Skuntank G and Zangoose.
Right now I'm trying to put together a deck that uses Shifty and Pokemon that confuse. The plan, if it works, is to confuse the defending Pokemon, then bring up Shiftry so that they will always roll tails on their roll for confusion. |

However it does have it's flaws. I can't seem to work around Dialga G X, but thankfully it's on a decline *And hopefully stays down* Luxape kills this deck *Bai Darkrai X*, and it can be a slow deck setting up. I currently also use 2 Jiachi's for draw support, it's great in the beginning turns to be able to use supporters like Bebe's, Volkner's, or Roseanne's very effectly. Speed stadium is also pretty nice if you can get that shiftry up fast enough, you may be able to draw a few cards *Not always* while your oppent can' sue to the flipping+ Shiftry's poke Body. Till then BTS is your friend to set up Nidoqueen and shiftry, claydol too if ya have them *Though I gotta admit I'd rather use Porygon 2, for now I'm using neither and Jiarchi holds up fine IF I can get him out T1-2* I really wanna test this out fully when the new tool cards/ Trainers come out, that extra 20 HP helps save both Darkrai and Shiftry from Infernape X |

Sometimes you need to start from the Beginning! Put together an Engine of some kind. Find what you feel most comfortable with then looks at what Pokemon fit this Engine. This tends to help me... I look at my trainers and go from there.... some say this is backwards, but sometimes the Trainers make or break the deck!
So Speed setup, mainly Stage 1 and Basics.. some S2 but limited. Stall setup (though not popular right now) takes a more complete engine that is balanced... With all the Pokemon we have now, the Engine style has helped me narrow Pokemon selections!! GL with it! Fish

I always just find a card that I like and think has potential and start from there. then I look at the cards strengths and weaknesses and try to find compliments. I always start with pokemon. However if you are looking to make a new rogue deck to win a major event with its much more difficult than that.
And my #1 philosophy is "Simple is always better" Sure, you may see an amazing game winning combo, but if it takes much more than 4 cards to pull off or a certain field position it is probably not worth pursuing heavily.

You'll start seeing a lot more "fun" oriented decks after Grinders/Worlds since nothing big is really coming up for awhile. Sometimes you can have fun creating rogue decks from archtypical cards. I played Gengar + Abomasnow earlier this year... who really plays that? lol. You get what I mean though. Even Jimmy was playing a more archtypical oriented deck at Nats.
Might sound really dumb, but make something with one of your favorites. Or take two really good cards (They don't have to be archtypical, just good and under the radar) and put them together, then after playing with them for awhile you might think of something one or the other goes good with. You need to experiment a little to find things. |

For a random rogue that might be fun/challenging to make, try gastrodon. It also has the benefit of having a good weakness/resistance matchup to luxnape, which is something a lot of decks lack right now.
Yeah, whenever I make a new deck I tend to pick something I know has potential and then just try to be as efficient as possible in helping it set up. |

i made octillery, i looked at it and said to myself, look at the beastly potenital this card can have with the right build... i played it against my bro's machamp i wont the first round b/c i dealt 200 damage to a lone machop t1(i went second.) he got mad... we played a second game for him to win by 1 prize card lol i was dealing 100-200 damage every turn we was a bit upset, but at some point i burned both my nm and all my octillery were discard piled so i had to run chansey against machamp which didnt settle well b/c of weakness and thats how he won... lol its a fun deck and i love it so far. definately not competitive but definatel worth the run!

Do you use Delcatty? Shiftry would kill that thing, lol.

no one plays shiftry in my area, and if they did i'll just tech in poke healers and run blissey/dialga as my attacker. i'll have a hard time but i'll manage to keep my hand size ridiculously large or small, i can easily keep my hand to zero with discarding energy or i can keep my hand large by keeping energy in hand and discarding them when i find it important, or i can smokescreen stall ftw!

Are you playing Octillery MT or PT? I thought you were playing PT, which needs a flip. That's why Shiftry would be a problem.

My rogue deck has gone 5-0 at league so far and I have only gone two days.
PM me if you want to know the idea of it.

What I always do is make a focus of stategy first. When I made my donkrow list I started with the idea of snipping bench pokemon fast. So I guess start a simple concept- heavy hitter, spread/snipe, special condition, power lock, various different sp builds are out there that are unexpected.
I have to agree with you that rogue decks are definatly the best tho. ( lol at my Drapion Weezing deck that I ran at league last week. It went 8-0 that day, 50 between turns baby! ) |

My rogue deck contains Muk PL, Arcanine RR, Nidoqueen RR, Gardevoir SW, Claydol GE , Skuntank [G] PL. those will work if you use the right things.
