pretty good card 8/10 like it with kingdra mostly becuase of the fast recovery if a king gets koed so if there was no kingdra i would give this a 5/10 so that show how much it will be different next year lol

I find it to be an interesting card. It is one of those that you feel must have some definitively better partner than any other, but you can't seem to pull it from your memory. Perhaps it is Kingdra, but I get a feeling that there is something else out there that would be better still.
As for technical details of the card, one of the first strengths that comes to my mind is the speed with which you can deliver massive damage with Energy Cyclone. We saw it with Feraligatr, but this card is a Basic Lv.X rather than a Stage 2 and can exploit the SP Trainers, such as SP Radar. As far as that consistency and speed issue goes, the Floatzel GL has a free attack to search for Supporters, which can almost guarantee you access to the Lv.X if you can start with it. The free retreat cost is also a nice luxury on such a nimble Pokemon. I would say its HP is pretty decent for a card with free retreat. Two major drawbacks strike me with this card. The first is its glaring weakness to Lightning, which will be a problem for it now that the Infernape/Luxray combo has become a major tournament contender. It can easily dispatch an Infernape, but the Luxray will come right back and hit it hard. Perhaps this can be paired with a Pokemon that has an ability to fight off Luxray to make a counter deck to Luxape. The second major drawback is that Energy Cyclone is Floatzel's only attack. While Energy Cyclone can be a highly destructive attack, it only works with when your hand contains Energy cards. The methods for replenishing the Energies in your hand generally involve a lot of Powers, so any deck that can maintain a Power Spray or Mesprit lock will prevent Energy Cyclone from being effective, and Floatzel GL and its Lv.X don't have any attacks that can be sufficiently powerful to replace it for extended periods of time. Again, I think of that perfect combo with this card that I know is out there that would be able to cover this drawback. Maybe someone out there knows what Pokemon I am trying to recall. Another minor but notable drawback I see is that Water Rescue does not allow you to return Floatzel cards to your hand upon its being knocked out, which I find annoying as it prevents you from chaining Floatzels together and keeping them in play for the duration of the entire game. That would probably be too powerful and broken, but it still annoys me. So, altogether I think it is a pretty solid card that definitely has some major plusses and minuses, but the Water Rescue Body holds the key to helping you keep the drawbacks from making Floatzel GL Lv.X unplayable. 7/10 |

Now here we got a good card. Floatzel gl lv.x
100 hp, is actually bad for a level x, retreat cost is awesomeness, and a lightining weakness is bad because of luxray gl and raichu and other guys but it doesnt break the card. water rescue is great- any time a water pokemon dies, the cards go straight to your hand. This helps in all water decks. Energy cyclone- for 2 waters does 20x the amount of water energy in your hand, after the water goes into your deck. Not great, but if you run a lot of energy it could work. Combos are as mentioned kingdra, it can help a lot here. But maybe it will help mr.octillery as well. I know he isnt that great and not used too much but octillery pt is a really fun card and can do some damage. Those decks also run lots of energy so floatzel can get lots of energy in your hand for the attack. Octillerys also die a lot and dont have many other compliments so the water recycle helps them a lot. 8/10-works well with kingdra and octillery. |

It's nice to see a tech based level X with a free retreat cost.

In a deck based around the Energy Cyclone attack with Feraligatr MT it can also be pretty good as well. Use Bronzong SF and/or Smeargle SW to get
in your hand for the attack itself or build up on it at least. Hand disruption really hurts the deck idea though cause of Looker's Investigation + Gengar SF.I've seen Floatzel GL played in Kingdra in my meta, but sadly it seems Kingdra is dying out probably due to the potential of Vibrava RR screwing it over with Energy Typhoon and Flygon is pretty popular these days anyway. But yeah Broken Time-Space with this card and Kingdra to re-evolve Kingdra is nice when using Floatzel GL Lv. X's Water Rescue. Then you could also discard to power-up Kingdra's Aqua Stream with Felicity's Drawing to potentially do more damage again.

My son pulled this at a pre-release and really wanted to use it. He also likes Empoleon Lv.X, so we built a deck around those two. It's quite a lot of fun to play, and really annoying to play against.
Floatzel GL Lv.X has a lot of possibilities, and free retreat is always nice. Given that it puts all cards attached to the knocked-out Pokemon back in your hand, it does give you some good potential for powering up Energy Cyclone, especially for a late-game clean-up. Okay, so maybe the deck isn't top-tier, but it's fun and he likes it. It would be a lot better if he was willing to put Bronzong SF in, but he has an irrational dislike of Bronzor. (He's 7, so what are ya gonna do?) |

As said, this card should be in almost every water deck, especially those that swarm. Don't forget about gyarados SF though, as 3 discarded magikarps means when your gyarados goes under, you can bring it right back without wasting a night maintenance or pokemon rescue and keep splashing around for 0 energy.

I used this with Walrein RR.. One of it's best combinations, along with Starmie RR. This card if amazing good if used properly. Incite = Win late game when most of your supporters are gone and you need to get them back. Using this with Kingdra or Walrein RR is a freaking amazing combo for it.

This helped out Kingdra immensely, but unfortunately, it doesn't see any play now. It's great as a tech in Water decks that make use of BTS. And he can even attack with Bronzong SF for a new age Tsunami. But as I said, it doesn't see much play in Kingdra or anything else.
Modified - 3/5 dmaster out. |

Remy stole my thunder. This is AWESOME with Walrein RR, Starmie and Lumineon SF. Fire decks may be hot this year (pardon the pun) with Blaziken FB (at least I think it's Blaziken), so the weakness to water those decks have will make this a very strong deck.

Not to down any of the other posts, but GDog wins the thread so far IMO -- that is how its done with excellence folks.
My comment on chaining Floatzel is that it requires 2-1 and Aaron's or PKMN Rescue... I can see how that might be too much deck space. And a bench of KGDR, FLTZ, CLDL, FLTX is minimum for chaining in KGDR... and vulnerable vs. Palkia. OTOH, as you point out the 'Floatzel, fetch me a supporter.' attack makes is a decent starter. Other combo with Kingdra -- late game as an attacker. Aqua Stream the d/c energies in for one big KO, then next turn(s) Claydol in your nonEnergy and draw a hand of 4-6 energy for the energy Cyclone. |

Today's CotD is Floatzel Lv X from RR, another card that was somewhat hyped before the set release, but has yet to make much of an impact for some reason. Statwise, 100 HP is ok for a SP Lv X, x2 Weakness to :lightning hurts against cards like Luxray GL, no Resistance is common, and no Retreat Cost is great. Water Rescue is an outstanding Poke-Body, returning any KOed
Pokemon of yours back to your hand, along with all cards attached to it; this can be extremely helpful in almost any deck, as it negates the time/cost of using Night Maintenance, then having to dig the Pokemon back out. Energy Cyclone is decent; for ![]() , you deal 20x how many Energy cards you show your opponent (though those Energy cards get shuffled into your deck). Can be nice for a surprise attack/KO if anything.Modified - 8/10 (A great support Pokemon for decks)Limited - 8/10 (Play him in an all deck and you'll never run out of Pokemon)Unlimited - 3/10 (Maybe slot him in a Rain Dance deck or something, could be fun) |

This is what got me out of Aussie Nats Top Cut.
My opponent claimed that my Vespiquen/Cherrim build had an Autowin on his Kingdra build, even though he was faster. A couple of other people vouch for that too. Strangely enough, he got a wacko KO T2 during the first match of the best of 3 rounds. 2nd match I set up... not important. 3rd match that stupid Floatzel Lv.X took us into Sudden Death. You know what it did? It just sat on the bench. And guess what? String of Kingdras. Vespiquen can handle that, but dang... On topic, if a single card can pretty much be the binding of a whole deck, it must be good. There's obviously something else out there that is supposed to combo with this. Probably something from MT or whatnot. However in this current format, this is easily one of the best cards for water decks. It works as a setup card, sustaining card, endgame card...you can even place it in the Active Spot and then BTS another Kingdra, energy, free retreat and it's Kingdra all over again!! Fast and Furious. Pretty good for a weasel, eh? 9/10. |
