Newb in need of advice

What decks/packs would you recommend to a newb? I see the toysrus has a couple theme decks are any of them good? Basically I want to how would you invest if you were new to the game.

The best way to start off the game is by looking over some of the new deck ideas here. Also make sure you have a really/very good number of the Staple cards, a.k.a. Roseanne's Research and Bebe's Search and Professor Oak's Visit or Rowan.
Also, any pack from Diamond and Pearl to Platinum.

If you are on a budget do this:

Buy the flygon theme deck.

Add a 4-4 Dodrio play 4 Roseannes and 4 Bebe. It's not perfect but it will really improve the deck.

And if you are ready to go on play more of the flygon family like a 4-2-3-1 line.

Beedrill. Easy and cheap. Just takes a bit of getting used to, but if you haven't played much, that should be the same wioth every deck!

Either way Toys r us will break your budget lol. They are over priced. Current Deck in Format is. Flygon. It is colorless so it can be run with anything. My word of advice is Flygon with Nidoqueen from RR. Theme decks are pointless. Buy singles on Ebay. Search these forums for staple cards and buy them on ebay. OR you can always go into the trading thread here on pokegym and buy from our trusted sellers!

darkwater - some themes are easy way to get energy plus a few staples, like roseanne's (for a few bucks more, you can get 2 in a theme rather than pay that $8 per copy you see regularly)

currently the main decks I've noticed winning in masters (from the BR's reports) is Flygon, Gengar and Gyarados.

Gyarados is the cheapest out of the 3 and is 2nd in wins/tops to Flygon variants.

but I agree, search around for deck lists, and if you can, test using something like redshark before you blow your money on cards, lol.

Flygon is clearly the best deck in the game right now, but Beedrill has a slight advantage against most Flygon decks and it's a very inexpensive deck compared to everything else, so you might be better off with that until you fully understand the inner workings of the game.

I would pick a deck and buy all the cards you need on Ebay. Booster packs and theme decks are a waste of Money
