Choosing the new fighting pokemon

My kids play this game and they asked me this question, which I couldn't find the answer for, so here I am. If a person's current fighting pokemon gets knocked out, they need to choose a new pokemon to make their fighting pokemon. Do they draw first, then choose, or do they have to make that choice before they draw? Sorry if this is a simplistic question, but I couldn't find the answer. Thanks.

I can't post replies, but I appreciate the help. I also appreciate defining of terms. It's really helpful.

No problem. Happy to help new players and fathers.
That's how I got my start, looking for a site like this to get info and help for my son.

First, a terminology correction.
"Fighting Pokemon" is usually used to refer to the type of Pokemon, where "Fighting" type has a brown circle with a black fist inside of it. The Pokemon that is up front battling for you is referred to as your "Active Pokemon" in general, and as your "Attacking" Pokemon during your turn and as your "Defending Pokemon" during your opponent's turn. You'll see these terms used in card texts, so it's important to know them to use the text properly.

Now, as for your question, you would have to replace your Knocked Out Pokemon first. The turn doesn't end until that is done. Then, if anything has to be done inbetween turns like applying Poison damage or other effects, that is done.
Finally, after that's taken care of, your turn begins and the first thing that is done then is to draw a card.
Hope that helps!
