Newbie Question about Holon Fossil

Am I reading this right that this allows you to use a stage one as a basic Pokemon? Or do you put it on the Holon Fossil? I know if I try to use it to the the first my kids are going to challenge it, so I figure I will cut them off at the pass and ask first. :D

You simply put it on your Bench. It works similarly to Garchomp Lv. X's Restore attack, whose text is

"Search your discard pile for a Pokemon (excluding Pokemon Lv. X) and put it onto your Bench as a Basic Pokemon. ..."

Although the card has 'fossil' in its name and therefore it might imply that it should be played like other Fossil cards, it's just a normal trainer, and its effect allows you to play Fossil Pokemon as Basic Pokemon instead of evolving them from fossils.

Just a side note, Holon Fossil is not still a legal card in the modified format, so you can't play with it in tournaments or anything.

I am not that brave, I only play my kids.

Not that it helps, I only have one and last time it was stuck in my price cards.
