Question Does Damage - strength charm

Just trying to figure out what 'does damage' means....

consider a pokemon with a Strength Charm attached facing either the Odd Mr Mime or the Even Mr Mime.

So lets say the base damage is 40 prior to adding +10 from strength Charm.

Would an Evens Mr Mime prevent the 40 damage and thus provide no 'does damage' for the Strength Charm to add to?

Or alternatively would an Odd Mr Mime block the total 40+10 damage and thus require the +10 from Strength Charm to be ignored, which of course leads to a loop! Argh.

A way out of the loop would be to consider that 'does damage' is resolved without any reference to the defending pokemon but I'm not sure if that wouldn't lead to other problems.

Surprised...!

Ah I see its not under strength Charm

Quote:
== STRENGTH CHARM (EX:Team Magma/Team Aqua)

* Strength Charm should read: "Whenever an attack from the Pokémon that Strength Charm is attached to does damage to the Active Pokémon (before applying Weakness and Resistance), the attack does 10 more damage. At the end of the turn in which the player attacks with the Pokemon that this card is attached to, discard Strength Charm." This errata replaces text of "after applying Weakness and Resistanceî with ěbefore applying Weakness and Resistance". It is also clarified that it is removed after ANY attack that the Pokémon makes, not just attacks that do damage. (Oct 1, 2004 PUI Announcements)

Q. In 2-on-2 Play, if I use an attack that damages both defending Pokémon, would Strength Charm do +10 do both of the opponent's Active Pokémon?
A. Yes, that is correct.

Q. If I attach a Strength Charm, then use Kirlia's Life Drain, can I one-hit-KO the Defending Pokémon?
A. No. Kirlia's Life Drain doesn't strictly do damage [it "places damage counters"] - Strength Charm only affects things that do damage. (Mar 25, 2004 PUI Rules Team)

Q. Does Strength Charm affect self damage, like Wobbuffet's flip over attack?
A. Yes - it affects damage done by the Attacking Pokémon. (Mar 25, 2004 PUI Rules Team)
[edit forgot to say thanks ;) ]

Yup thats right, Mr. Mime's power blocks total damage deals, after applying effects to the damage. Just think, even if the evens Mr. Mime had a weakness, you would never be able to touch him with it, because all damage when doubled would be even and thus prevented.
