When up against a speed deck...

So basically how do you defend yourself against speed decks?

Uhhhh depends what you're playing with & against. Without knowing that, all I can say is speed it right back

There's a couple of things you can try . . . like TheGeneral said, it depends on the deck.

1. Slow them down

Spiritomb so they can't play Trainers
Mr Mime, Azelf MT (with the other Pixies) to increase their attack costs

2. Disrupt their hand

Wager, Lookers, Let Loose Giratina, Sableye/Cyrus's Initiative, Absol SW . . . they can all mess with a speed deck's perfect start.

3. Recovery

Cynthia's can help you get set up again after an early KO, Jirachi RR likes being KO'd

4. Run a deck that is fast yourself.

Not all of those work, and none of them will work all the time. But then no speed deck is guaranteed a perfect start either.

But yeah, it's a fast format.

What do they usually have in common? Are they all mostly sp? Do they run trainers? How many energy's?
In other words, what is the key general strategy they have? (other than beating the opponent) that should be attacked. Their Achilles tendon, where is it?

Donking. That's what most speed decks aim for. Like kingdra and machamp just to name a few.

So would lookers investigations and warp points buy me enough time?

It depends on the deck.

Enough time to do what? It's impossible to give general advice. Are you trying to set up multiple Stage 2s or use a Pokemon that needs 4 Energy to attack?

This is a fast format, and it's also a format where nothing on the bench is safe thanks to Luxray and Garchomp.

Lookers is risky . . . they might draw a better hand. It also means you won't be playing Bebe or Roseanne that turn, so it might slow your own set up even more. Warp Points won't do much against Free Retreaters and SP decks.

Tomb and Mime are your best bets.

They are all heavy with Trainers. Lock Trainers and you slow them down. Spiritomb is a general counter, though Dialga G decks can do Deafen and Gengar decks have Pitch Dark as well.

They also tend to be fairly low energy, so Mr Mime can slow them down as well.

Ok, that also helps. I don't get to go to leagues and such. Only get to battle the tourny days or sum friends, so like once a week. I really like playing, but my area of access isn't the worlds best. Anyways, thanks.

Speed decks aren't built to donk. Morons and stupid kids and people who play for fun build speed decks to donk. People who know what they're doing and play to win build speed decks to be consistent and take a donk as a fluke, not as the ultimate goal.

Sorry, I just really ragehate kids and stupidity.

They take a donk. Isn't that donking? Yes it is.

People will take the opponent decking out as a lucky fluke and a win condition - this doesn't mean everyone runs Flygon Lv X or Rhyperior DP in their decks.

My Luxchomp deck is pretty fast and I will donk someone if the oppotunity arises. But that isn't my main aim, otherwise I'd run 4 Crobat G and not bother with cards like Lucario GL.

Oh OK. Thank you for clearing that up. I've never really ran a speed deck before but I've always thought that their main goal was for donking.
