Xatu: HGU - Good Anti-PLOX/Anti-Mewtwo tech?
I was running through the scans, and stumbled across this. Maybe I got a little bit excited because it's a Xatu; however, the first attack could be a good counter to PLOX.
#43 - Xatu - Psychic - 90 HP Stage 1 Evolution - Evolves from Natu [P] Psywave: Does 20 damage times the number of Energy attached to the Defending Pokemon. [P][C][C] Confuse Ray: 50 damage. Flip a coin, if heads the Defending Pokemon is now Confused. Weakness: Lightning (x2) Resistance: Fighting (-20) Retreat: 1 With Lucario GL out, it does 120 to a Gardy/Gallade, and is resistant to Gallade. If Mewtwo is powered up, it can hit Mewtwo for 120 (again, this is conditional on them not having used the 120 attack the previous turn). Now, a smart player will probably play around this, but as an anti-PLOX tech it could still do a fair amount of damage. Thoughts?

decent at best, the best anti-plox tech is to take a knock out quick and beat them while there down.

LOL not even close!
90 hp? It gets one shotted easily. Oh, you're gonna love this: It's dominated by the best card in the came, Luxray, so it has no chance.

also the fact that you will NEED a lucario GL to get the KO makes it less of a threat too.

I think that it could work, but it's very situational. Most Gardevoir/Gallade decks run Azelf Lv. X, so you are stuck doing 60 which another Pokemon in your deck could do. Mewtwo could fear this card, but if Mewtwo uses Energy Absorption, and you drop the Xatu, your opponent will know the trick and not fall for it twice.
The big thing that I think will cause this card to not see too much play is the abundance of Luxray GL. Automatic X2 Lightning Weakness pretty much causes any card to see little to no play, and this is no exception; Luxray GL will say "Thank you for the easy target!" and KO Xatu before Xatu charges up to attack.

As for the Lucario GL statement, I was mainly suggesting this in an SP deck (to work out the PLOX/Mewtwo matchup). Quote:
EDIT: Because I expect some retorts, I would like to make it clear that there is a difference between a 1-1 tech and a 4-X-4 line in that the 1-1 tech is a LOT less likely to be exposed to its weakness by a good player. Most good players will only play the tech down when they need it.

![]() As for Xatu, I think it is a decent card mainly for mewtwo x. I don't see GG doing too well in this format but it does have its uses. Mismagius is probably better since it can discard egains |

Xatu would be really funny after a Mewtwo X has used Energy Absorption. Nice find!
