Iron Martyr's CurseGar Deck
IronMartyr's CurseGar Deck
Main Deck: 60 Pokemon: 22 1x Azelf (LA19) 4x Gastly (SF62) 1x Gengar (SF18) 2x Gengar (AA16) 1x Gengar LV. X (AA97) 2x Haunter (AA41) 2x Mr. Mime (MT30) 1x Nidoqueen (RR30) 1x Nidoran (F) (RR71) 4x Spiritomb (AA32) 2x Uxie (LA43) 1x Uxie LV. X (LA146) Trainers: 15 2x Expert Belt 1x Luxury Ball 4x Poke Drawer + 2x Pokemon Communication 4x Rare Candy 2x Warp Point Supporters: 11 3x Bebe's Search 2x Looker's Investigation 1x Palmer's Contribution 1x Pokemon Collector 1x Professor Oak's New Theory 3x Roseanne's Research Stadiums: 2 2x Moonlight Stadium Energy: 10 10x Psychic Energy Strategy: The basic strategy of the deck is to start with Spiritomb, hopefully, and begin to trainer lock your opponent and evolve your bench. The ideal start would be at least Spiritomb active and Gastly on the bench. Without missing an energy drop, you can have a fully powered CurseGar by turn 3, and with an expert belt, you have hit and run for 80 damage plus 10 to 1 of your opponent's benched Pokemon, retreating to either Spiritomb or Mr. Mime, depending on the matchup. The Gengar Lv. X is in to deal with opposing Lv. X's, and to be able to take mass prizes near the end of the battle, after a few strategic "Curses" and "Shadow Skips". The SF Gastly is used because it can almost function as a Spiritomb start, still giving you the trainer lock on your opponent. The SF Gengar is played for its widely feared Feinting Spell. Use Gengar's (AA) "Shadow Skip" attack to do 60 to the active and 1 to the bench and then switch. Bring up your Mime or Spiritomb (depending on the situation) use Moonlight Stadium to give Mime or Spiritomb free retreat and then the next round retreat for Gengar and repeat the process. Low energy attackers like Jumpluff, Beedrill, Gyarados, etc will not be able to hurt Mr.Mime. And SP Pokemon that rely on Poke Turns, Energy Gain, etc will not be able to do that when Spirtomb is active. Last edited by IronMartyr; 05/29/2010 at 11:01 AM. |

Take out some Psychic Energy for Call Energy- I'd say 3. You can also drop the Farfetch'd, as Spiritomb is a better starter and the only one you'll need. I'd replace it with a Nidorina, so you can use Spiritomb to set up your Nidoqueen. Another thing I would suggest is Manectric, so Garchomp C Lv. X or other Pokemon can't snipe your benched Gengar Lv. X.

I was thinkin about using Call Energy but after some playtesting I prefer to just use basic energys... So far about 90% of the time I have opened with a spritomb and gastly. I also prefer the 1-0-1 Nidoqueen seeing as i have 4 candys and not much to do with them lol. Farfetc'd is pretty awesome in here to, he can be searched out easily and then he can search out my other support... but the Manectric idea sounds pretty cool, I will look into it

Might want to look into some Warp energy just in case anything gets called out through warp point or bright look or other ways (blaziken fb). That way you can save from wasting all your psychic energies, and will be able to retreat the next time you get pulled out if you do (except cladol will need a second attachment)
In my Gengar list I know I run 7 Psychic, 3 Call, 2 Warp for energy and Warp came up huuuge in the first round of my top cut yesterday at Battle Roads

So far, I like the changes you've made, but from your new list I would drop a Rare Candy for another Haunter. Chances are you will be using Darkness Grace to do most of your setting up, and having another Haunter instead of a Rare Candy helps with Darkness Grace.
