When do fossils count as

basic pokemon and when do they count as trainers?
Like can I search fossils with roseannes research, pokemon collector etc..
And can I bench a fossil if a spiritomb AR is active?

They always count as Trainers.
They only count as Pokemon while they are in play.

To your specific questions, no is the answer to all of them.
