This is one of my favourite cards on a collecting basis, and it was the first rare I pulled out of an MT pack.
The artwork is also one of my favourites, Celebi simply looks great on this card. How does it work in decks though? Well, outside of the Limited format, it doesn´t. Sprouting + Leaf Tornado = 30 damage T2, which is way below what a competitive card should do regardless of the combo in there. Leaf Tornado´s effect is also obsolete with the arrival of Meganium Prime, and keep in mind Leaf Tornado is an attack so your turn ends when using it. In the MT prereleases this card may have been impactful, but a 60 HP basic with attacks just above average simply doesn´t excite anyone when Celebi hasn´t got an evolution and never will. The art deserves a mark of 9/10, but the card itself? 2/10, mostly a filler for Grass-type theme decks. |

AGAIN with the old...geez
![]() Today's...well, other CotD apparently is Celebi from MT, a card that was useful for decks about what...2-3 years ago? But since then it's pretty much died down into irrelevance...statwise, 60 HP is average for a Basic, +20 Weakness to is meh, no Resistance is common, and to Retreat is cheap (but hindering to this card). Sprouting is fine for no Energy, letting you grab a Energy from your deck and onto Celebi. Leaf Tornado ideally would then take those Energy gained from Sprouting (costing ![]() ) to deal 30 and move them onto other Pokemon you want them on, and pretty much sacrificing Celebi as a starter. Shame it looks much better on paper than it actually panned out...back then, there weren't many Pokemon to use with it, and nowdays it's too slow.Modified - 1/10 (Long since faded from relevance, now waiting to collect dust in under a month) Limited - 7/10 (Solid starter Pokemon for decks)Unlimited - 1/10 (Destined to collect dust, be used as a coaster, or lit on fire) |

The first attack is free and allows a
attachment to it from the deck directly. The bad thing is this is an attack, but at least its free and could be useful in the first turns of the game. The next attack costs and does 30 and lets you move to pokemon in any way you want. This could be useful with Sceptile GE and SF. The former lets you move enrgy as you wish with a power, so Celebi could support this by using this attack before Scptile SF hits the board. The latter Scptile turns into enabling more expensive attacks to be used easier. So this card could be used with the above with someone else as the main attacker, like Tangela SF, Venusaur rumble, Torterra PL, Torterra UL, etc. However stage 2's slow the deck down a lot, so Celebi would be the only thing doing anything in the first few turns. I don't expect to see this card do much at worlds, probably SP will take the crown. (My bet is on Garchomp C, sablelock, or Dialga G) |

Looks like we are back to reviewing DP cards!
![]() 60 HP is average for a basic. The fire weakness is somewhat OK, and the retreat cost is average. Celebi's first attack lets you search your deck for a energies, and then you attach them to Celebi. This might not seem much, but the second attack seems to take use of the first attack. Leaf Tornado, for two grass energies, lets you move any number of grass energy cards attached to your Pokemon to your other Pokemon in any way you like. Basically, you can attach the energies onto Celebi, and then you move them away with Leaf Tornado. OF course, the second attack can have some other uses too.Overall 3/10 in modified, 7/10 in limited, and 3/10 in unlimited In modified, this card is slightly below average. Generally, it's because it has low HP, so it makes it an easy target, and there happen to many cards that are better for energy boosting compared to Celebi. However, Celebi can still come into some nice use for fun in any fun grass decks, or maybe even with Torterra UL. In limited, this card sees a lot more potential. There happen to a lot of grass Pokemon in MT, and Celebi is great to set up all of your main Pokemon so that you can begin to attack easily. Because of this, this card is definitely recommended in any grass deck here.In unlimited, this card goes back to being a bit below average. Once again, low HP is a problem, and there are better ways for energy boosting here like modified, but just like it, Celebi can still come into some nice uses for many good grass types here, like Vileplume EX. |

When this card first came out, it was a pretty good Energy accelerator, since there wasn't much that would be able to KO it in one turn early-game. Unfortunately, in today's format, its Sprouting won't give you enough time to accelerate, as it will likely get immediately KO'd.
This card is much better in Limited, though. |
