Tip-Tup is from Banjo Kazooie Banjo is from Banjo Kazooie Conker is from Conker's Bad Fur Day Diddy Kong is obviously from Mario games But where (if they are from somewhere) do the Tiger, Crocodile, Badger and Mouse come from?

Wait, isn't Diddy Kong owned by Rareware (bought out by Microsoft in 2002)?

Proof? There's no credit given to Rare for Diddy Kong's inclusion in Smash Bros. Brawl.

On the subject of Rare, does anyone know why they didn't release any main console platformers after Banjo Kazooie and Tooie?

Oh, Diddy Kong Racing. I couldn't beat this game for the longest time til about last year when I finally got first against the Dragon. :L Still haven't gotten T.T., though.
Microsoft bought out Rare? When did this happen? D: Does this mean that the new "Donkey Kong Country Returns" is owned by Microsoft? Or did Rare stop producing Donkey Kong?

Too my understanding, Rare was not fullfilling their contract as a developer for Nintendo in the amount of games they were to produce to support the N64. They did make some games for the Super Nintendo, but they were a 3rd party developer in those days. When the Super Nintendo was slated to be cut from production and support for the take over of the production for the N64, Rare was then taken under the wing of Nintendo as a main producer of games for the 64.
Rare made the mistake of taking too much time in "perfecting" all the games- (quality vs quantity)(and yes, IMO- Rare did some of the best created games for the 64 vs other developers)- and they did not have their own staff/crew who they needed to fullfill the number of games Nintendo contracted them to make to keep the 64 afloat in support of the system. It is also a two way street for when the PS came out. It was "everyone-looky here- a new home game system to challenge Nintendo ( as it is in any companies intrest to compete for business)- and we are aiming the system at older people" The choice Nintendo made to stick to cartridge vs disc- which everyone laughed at- was what made Rare want to break the contract with Nintendo, but it would cost Rare too much. So Rare did the "bare bones" in production for the 64 by sticking to the "quality vs quantity" method. When Sony lost millions of dollars to the cd burning capabilities of a PC ( I know this for a fact cuz a friend of mine went out to Hollywood Video the day after buying the PS and rented each of the 15(?) I think games, took them home, burned each one, then whent back and returned the games like half an hour later, thus spending like $30.00 or so dollars vs buying them, and the games worked just fine.) Rare was about to go ahead and bail on the contract with Nintendo to try and work for Sony ( thinking Sony is the future) and seeing the drawback to the cd burning, Rare then just decided to just complete the contract out with the games that they had already had almost near completion. After the contract ended, Nintendo did not pick up Rare in the open market, which no one wanted Rare at the price Rare was asking to be contracted for or selling price. They had ruined their business part, but held the quality reputation. I do not know what happened in the time between Nintendo until Microsoft obtained or partnered with Rare. This info is not entirely accurate, but from what I researched and read, this is too my understanding of what Rare's history is. Nintendo owns Diddy Kong because Nintendo provided the rights to use, not the right to own for Rare. As a contract can be written up in many ways, the original contract was for as long as the N64's support line was in production, Rare had help/support from Nintendo to keep games coming in. When the system is discontinued, so does the support. Thus, all help/support is to be returned to the owner of such help/supportfull "items" are returned as well. A smart move by Nintendo, because it secures their future in other game systems by being able too have what players like and would like to continue to see more of.

Retro Studios made Donkey Kong Country Returns (who you might know from working on the Metroid Prime series). Basic thing to remember is, Rare never owned the Donkey Kong characters, Nintendo does, so they can have anyone they like make a game for it.

Viva Pinata and Trouble and Paradise were both pretty good games Rare created for the 360.

Didnt Rare and Nintendo get in a fight because Nintendo forced them to turn "Dinosaur planet" into "Starfox 64: DInosaur Planet" . THought I read that somewhere.
Still, DKR is one of my favorite games ever, spend soo much time with this its almost ridiculus xD

^hmmmm....... possable. The info on Rare I posted was what research on Rare I did way back in the day (around the time the 64 was going to be discountinued from production and game support)-
The net is full of different stories/rumors that even I have never heard of "dinosour planet", even for Star fox. Interesting none the less, as starfox is an old staple game to push the grapchic limits of the Supernintendo. I can not even remember what the "chip/proccessor" or what ever it was that made the game graphically used for it to make the game "groundbreaking" for the system. (I will research it- hay, it's the rumor/info net, right?)
