Ash's Pikachu TRU event

It seems that Toys R Us is going to do a wi-fi event for you to download Ash's Pikachu onto your D/P/PLt-HG/SS cartridges.
This Pikachu is the same Pikachu that was released in Japan a while back.

The event dates are : Jan. 30th 2011 through Feb. 5th. 2011

It Is Official. I like how Serebii didn't post a source like some other site I know. It will be in-store download.

Also Benzo we kinda already know what type of poke-ball it'll be in. All event pokemon come in the Cherish Ball.

Also, I think it is interesting in the "Legal" section of the info posting on the TRU site- it says "content distribution not offered at competing retailers in the USA in 2010"-

What? Like Gamestop is a huge threat to TRU for getting download Pokies?
Heck- poor Celebi release will be at Gamestop if the downloads are swapped/split/rotated between TRU and Gamestop....

This is going to be great for some people to be able to get a chance to get this game. I got the Pichu from gamestop, and this is going to be in the same game cartridge as the Pichu.

Lucky for me the town with out Gamstop also has TRU and this one is going on during the last Gamestop one for the Dogs so I will go from Gamestop over to TRU and get both Pokemon in one day

My TRU didn't have the event going on, I just stopped off in there today and the guy at in the game department did even know anything about it and I tested it with my DS and there wasn't anything to connect to :(

If your Toys r Us had the event going on today, Pyro, it would've had the obligatory trimmings (such as the sign with the pokemon on it, its item, and its moves) saying you could get the pokemon. Did you notice anything like that there in Toys r us today, Pyro?

@pyro- Is the TRU an EXPRESS TRU Store?
I do believe that some TRU express stores prolly will not do the event, as some of the TRU express stores carry minimal stuff ( provide the "basics" ) and do not usualy host events of any kind.

Also, BabiesRUs will not more then likely host the event.

I do believe that only Major TRU Chain stores that contract with local/nationwide companies to promote things for sales/interest in certain aspects, or do "exclusive" deals/sales/promotions.

This could be the reason for the store not holding the event.

I went to TRU today- it is a "main chain" location- and they did not have the download at all. I spoke to the manager, the manager stated that "They will no longer be doing downloads as Nintendo has taken out all of the download equipment required to host an event. Only special and certain Locations are now doing any event from Nintendo."-

Kind of a bummer deal that only special or specific locations will be doing the download.

I hope Nintendo decides to do a wi-fi event for this.

@pyro- sorry man- I guess this event is only "specific to special or certain locations"- and now I see that this is effecting alot more TRU stores then what is going on.

No there was nothing there, my DS didn't pick up anything. So I think that my TRU is going to be like Benzo's and not do the events but I would have to ask the next time I'm in town. But I know that I can get the stuff from Game Stop because they always do the events so I'll be there right after I get off of work those days they are sending out the beast :) but I really wanted the Pikachu but I thank I'll live on lol.

@benzo. I don't know why they are not hosting it because my Toy R Us has always did it in the past and every time I go in there on one of those days it's packed full of poke fans getting the event and some packs of cards (I don't know why they would get the cards from there because TRU is high on their cards... Walmart is about 3.97 and TRU is 4.86 a pack) but still I don't see the point of not doing the events because they do get a lot of people in for the event and to buy stuff afterwards. Oh well I guess I not have no real point of going to TRU :(

So- what is the deal with only SOME of the TRU's doing the event? (Also, I didn't even read it as the 30th-5th- I thought 30th-5th as Dec.+Jan.)

My TRU has done the events as well for downloads for at least the last 3+ years ( I think the last download at TRU here was Regigigas iirc)- So, I wonder if they plan on getting in the equipment to be able to continue to host events. And they usualy do have Pokemon stuff on sale or some sort of "deals" going on on the day of a download events.

The last one that my Toys R Us did was the Arceus in 09 and I did a little research and that was the last one that TRU did, I'm not sure why TRU don't do more of them but as far as I can tell TRU only does them at random unlike Game Stop that does them more offen. I can see in a year or two that TRU stops doing them all together but never know they may start to pick up more events, then another thought comes to mind, the Pokemon Co. might have bids on the events and game stop out bids TRU for most of them so I'm not sure or it could have been the GS was hosting one at that time so they need to find someone else to host the Pikachu. I would have to dig a little bit more to tell for sure.

I always go get the event pokemon, I'm so glad they have made it easier. You used to only be able to get them at nintendo events. Dont forget to get the legendary dogs as well. Also a fun fact, I didnt make it up to gamestop before they closed on the last day to download Jirachi, but i got really close to the wall, and was still able to download him! pretty neat eh?

@Phantom- I'm on top of the dogs, I work at the mall so I'm lucky, Game Stop is just on the other end and Toys R Us is right across the street :) so I'm lucky there. I still can't wait until Black and White comes out :) I know that's random but the dogs are used for BW and I can't wait to use them LOL.

^ It is about time the dog's got some bite to their bite- come on, seriously, the bird's are just perch warmers with Zapdos being the only one that see's the battle feild when scarfed to help Electavire.

I think that Gamestop is the best place for the downloads vs TRU (IMO) for the reason that Gamestop is more of a video game store and has a better reputation in that area for catering to gamers.

The thing though, is, Why has TRU not stated that the Pikachu event is only at certain locations? ( unless the TRU's will get the equipment and based on what the Manager told me-)

Does anyone have any inside info as to how/what decides where/who is hosting events, like TRU vs Gamestop?

^ It is one thing to mistaken the dates for the event- it is another thing if TRU does not have the equipment/ability to host the event at locations that do not/will not have the ability to host the event.

What I posted is information I recieved from the manager at TRU on the event. I asked about the event, and yes, I did get the dates of the evnt mixed up- but having been told that the store is not able to do it because the manager has no equipment to host the event, let alone has no further information from Corporate on the issue as too whether or not they will even recieve the equipment to do it and that they do not expect to recieve such equipment. Also, the manager said that as far as She knows, only certain or special TRU locations will do the events, and that so far "this location is not on the list".

Just digging around to get more info. Nothing is solid on this information- that is why I am still working on finding out what can be confirmed or not.

I thank that question can only be answered by Pokemon Co. not saying that there isn't any info out there on the web but to get a full solid answer, that would be the only place I can think of. But that doesn't mean that looking around wouldn't get you something. I should look in to that as well because that a question that I would like to know the turth about.

I know that the locations of the events are not from Japan because the event pokemon were given out at the movies, the three dogs and Celebi where at the movies when you went a watched the 13th movie and Ash's Pika was given out over Wi-Fi, so I guess messaging Pokemon Co. would be the next step and if they are willing to give out and anwser that would be great be if not I guess it's back to the drawing board :)...

I was checking out Serebii for this years events and they didn't have Ash's Pika up there, they had the three dogs and Celebi but no Pika. I don't know if they haven't updated that info yet or we where given the run around on Pika for the time being. Thats just a random update I thought might intrest a few people.

^same here on the Pika info, Serebii was the first site I looked into on the Pika event as well.

I guess I can poke around Nintendo and TRU with some e-mails, and see what I can dig up.

^ I talked to the manger at my Game Stop today and he was saying the back in the day when the pokemon games were still gameboy games, Toys R Us was buying all of the event promos because everyone was saying pokemon was for the kids, so being a toy store and one of the biggest chains in the US they bought the event promos but now that Game Stop has been bringing in a lot more money over the last few years they buy the event promos, plus seeing that it's a game store and the event is for games, it's works better. Plus Game Stop buys all kinds of promos for games now a days, almost every game that comes out now, if you pre order it at a Game Stop you'll get a unlockable item/map/character/ect so I guess that would be how each event is placed and at the sametime, because Game Stop is giving away the dogs Toys R Us gets to give away the Pikachu. I hope that helps and is correct.
