Tornados: The Donphan Counter

As you all know, Tornados will be joining us with EP... With Donphan Prime roaming around wreaking havoc right now, what are the chances that Tornados will be an appropriate and effective counter to Donphan.

Honestly, I don't think it's going to be amazing..

The only thing that jumps out as a Donphan counter is the Fighting resistance, but what's going to make Donphan so good when EP comes out is Catcher. Whoever is playing Donphan should just Catcher up something else and go for the easy KOs rather than hitting this head on.

The most this guy can do to Donphan is 60 anyway with no Trainer help and Donphan isn't usually ran by itself, another attacker should be able to deal with him before it's any kind of a threat.

This card won't kill Donphan, it may hinder it though it will definately not be the reason Donphan doesn't see as much play. You will be seeing this card in Zekrom or Cinccino who are looking for a quick, easy Donphan counter. It does take 3 hits from Donphan to KO a Tornadus, while it only takes Tornadus two hits to KO a Donphan.

I see this being run in Zekrom decks. Not only because a couple copies help Zekrom deal with a Donphan swarm but also because these can act as a 5th or 6th Zekrom in the first couple turns when everything has 60 HP.

Yeah, I was thinking Tornados in ZPS would be the best idea as well. In addition to the post above, Tornados can also use its first attack to move energies from Pachirisu when Shaymin is not available to do so...

He helps in that he moves energies to zekrom whilst attacking. After he goes down, mid-late game send out the zekrom you were charging up. BUt yea, it kinda detracts from the ZPS if you care so much about the name. Hell make a great backup attacker.

I was thinking the same thing Tornadus in ZPS, but I then realized that Donphan will just abuse catchers to drag up a lonely Zekrom and other easy Pokemon's and just one shot it,it can easily be played around. Think of it like this you'll be loading up Tornados but then next turn your other Pokemon's WILL get killed.

not only this, donphan also already runs ruins of alph to beat yanmega

sure it lets zekrom hit it harder, but he will still need 2 plus powers to kill donphan

Kyurem is the obvious choice here

If the point is to get more energies into play...why not thundurus isntead, since it searchs directly from the deck. Tornadus is quite handy since it can donk basic pokemon, just like the secret pikachu.

Then, the new deck should be callled PTZS.

It is not about preventing the attack from Donphan as much as it about KOing the donphan.. which can be done in a revenge type manner if Donphan catchers a bench.

Yes, and in the process Donphan's player does NOT knock out the Kyurem, while placing 10 damage across its own bench. The Kyurem will then hit the Donphan's bench for 30 each, while still dealing a respectable 40 to Donphan in the process. Even stage 1 Pokemon not named Donphan will fall very fast to this double-onslaught, and if the donphan ever gets cute and tries to attack Kyurem, it can immediately OHKO back with Outrage from 1 single Earthquake's damage (and a 2nd Earthquake needs a PlusPower to 2HKO).

Kyurem > Donphan.

hes just another card that can stand up and be on even ground with donphan. nothing more, nothing less imo.

You are missing the point of Kyurem being used as a COUNTER. That means it is meant to be placed in a deck weak to Donphan and can easily set up to counter Donphan. Your train of thought has a major flaw in that in order for Kyurem to use its second attack, it requires two water energies and a colorless one. Donphan sets up much faster than Kyurem (at least for its second attack). The thing that makes Kyurem a viable Donphan counter is that it can prevent Donphan from attacking it with EQ, otherwise Kyurem will easily attach a DCE and use Outrage for the knock-out. If you plan on using Kyurem's Glaciate to counter Donphan, then you, my friend, are going to be in big trouble.

Yanmega. It has free retreat so it wont care about Sheer Cold. A quick retreat and it's a 2hko.
