There really is no way to stop Donphan after EP is fully released/

I was thinking and I couldn't even come up with a card that can stop it, it will always have a partner to provide back up for unfavorable match ups. Whatever counter you throw won't matter, unless it's just plainly straight donphan which is highly unlikely.

Thoughts?

Haha, but it's all true Tornadus won't do anything but crap regardless if it can 2 shot it. Just abuse catcher and thats how you win :]

Yeah, but if you abuse Catcher against Donphan you could also do better.

Yanmega is a soft counter to snipe around Donphan.

A smart player will know just to spread Donphan's so Yanmega can only snipe for 20 which is pathetic. There's always something with Donphan to take care of Yanmega. Right now all I can think of it the next set roaming with DonMega's.

donmega(maybe with a tech) will be BDIF and there will be some attempts at a counter and lets say 1 works, the next tournament the donmega player will tech for the counter and beat it and there are not an infinite # of counters for a deck.

Donphan is excellent next format, but not the BDIF. Lanturn prime is a very good counter to donphan in my testing. Lanturn prime decks will be very good with the ability to counter the phan.

^Unless your testing involved putting a sticker over Lanturn's weakness and hoping to buy off judges, it shouldn't have show anything less than that Donphan OHKO's for 1 energy and Lanturn OHKO's with a Pokepower and 3 energy.

Donphan/Zekrom is what i think will roll. Zekrom takes EQ damage like a Champ and doles out the harshness to Yanmega and Tornadoman and both just have a lot of bulk that doesnt need additional set-up and are fast to setup.

Haven't you realized with the release upon catcher Donphan is completely a tank?

I doubt there will be much straight Donphan - generally run with Champ, I expect.

In the case that you play against DonChamp, you primarily need lots of disruption (Judges especially) and a steady attacker to mess them up.

Anyone else considered Swanna?

I'm actually looking at Suicune & Entei LEGEND as a Donphan counter. It seems like it would slot well into any fire deck (ReshiBoar or ReshiPhlosion) and it hits Donphan for weakness doing 140 after removing the 20 from Donphan's Pokebody. Of course, it's not perfect. It is weak to Zekrom and Magnezone, and it gives an opposing Zoroark the ability to snipe anything on your bench with 100 damage and no way to counter.

Reshiram with Typhlosion has a pretty fair match up against donphan. Think about it, Donphan's first attack doesn't OHKO anything, so all of that damage can be Max Potioned, and if the second attack is being prepared for, Catcher for a OHKO.

Only downside is set-up, which doesn't appear to be very troublesome.

^^^Dang it, my "secret" tech is out of the bag. It fits perfectly in ReshiPhlosion as a mirror tech, because most people run DCE and can be powered up in one turn. I only drop it against the mirror and Donphan, so Zekrom and Magnezone aren't really a problem. Magnezone won't be as big next format with Catcher. It's easy to get out with a high communication count.

I do expect Donphan to be quite the powerhouse. However, Beartic will provide probably the best counter. Beartic/Vileplume is something I will be feverishly polishing to try and get if working for BRs.

Additionally, we have Tornadus, which resists and 2HKOs Donphan for a DCE and a Colorless, along with Kyurem in the next set. While I see Donphan as a threat, I certainly don't see it as invulnerable.

Next set being the one *after* Emerging Powers. Since Worlds T32 got EP boxes, I consider the set "out." Sorry for the confusion.

I like how everyone ignores Beartic. Good luck trying to get that fatty off the field once the lockdown starts.

I've also had little troubles beating it with Reshityphlosion.

What else does Beatric help against, though? I'm sure Switch will be in every deck, and in 2's with heavy retreaters anyways. =/

If you are not running one of the legendary dragons, (including kyruem) your most likely going to battling against one so you should make your decks pretty much focused on that.

beartic will most likely be paired with vileplume, so they can't use switches and catchers.

Red Gyarados can kill plenty of Phanpy with the help of Pkmn Catcher, paired with Pachirisu is gonna be a really fun thing to see.
