Rare Candy VS Breeder
What are the differences between rare candy and breeder?
Doesn't rare candy make breeder look like a joke? |

The differences are that Rare Candy allows you to evolve a Pokemon even if it is that Pokemon's first turn in play, and you don't have to skip the Stage 1, although you can. Rare Candy does seem to make Breeder look like a joke, since Breeder can't do any of the above, and can't do anything that Rare Candy can't also do. Of course, you could always have 4 Rare Candy and some Breeders in your deck (if it's Unlimited), but why would you want to?

There's an exception to every rule, except this one. This one has two. |

Why can rare candy evolve Ralts into Guardevoir (neither card references the other card) but can't evolve Pichu into Raichu (where neither card references the other)?

Because Kirlia references Ralts, but Pikachu doesn't reference Pichu.

Ralts->Kirlia->Guardevoir
Thats ok b/c Guardevoir evolved from Ralts. Pichu Pikachu -> Raichu Not ok b/c Pikachu is a basic all by itself and on Pichu it now doesn't say that it evolves into Pikachu. I hope that made some sort of sense.

Makes sense in a weird way. These cards should be self contained and obvious from their own text and not need to have a rules lawyer tell us what they mean.
