Lost Zone
So, obviously, I'm new to many of the newer mechanics, as I'm an older player, but I've been doing research into several new strategies and cards, and i just wanted everyone's opinion on the Lost Zone.
Is Lost Zone a good strategy to utilize with the right cards? Any suggestions what those right cards would be? It seems to be the strategy I'm most intrigued by. |

Mew Prime with Relicanth for draw and set up is kinda cool. Lucario also hits by how many pokemon are in your lost zone. You can try and put six pokemon in your opponents lost zone and win by lost world mechanic with Gengar Prime. The Gengar Prime idea is kinda weak because the deck really needs a strong attacker, the Mew Prime idea is sub par IMO, but it's actually a deck. I've never played it but it requires alot of time and good predictions for what to expect in your meta.

Actually the Durant matchup is highly favorable. Once you get a Durant in the lost zone, they can't use Revive or Super Rod or anything else for that matter, to get it back. Getting Durants in the lost zone is easier than you might think - Seeker + Hurl into Darkness combo works beutifully. You could also Curse Drop twice and thanks to Gengar's ability, the Durant goes to the lost zone.

I'm not sure if you played the mirror between durant and gengar. I'm not arguing about the matchup because I haven't played it, but Lostgar is not a fast deck. Suggesting to do 40 a turn to counter durant isn't great. Most versions of the deck also run cobalion which could also be really good by itself.
Something tells me not many people have extensively tested the Gengar vs Durant matchup. (but what about magnezone/gengar? Gengar/vileplume? Gengar/electrode? Mewgar?) |

LostGar can be fast. Not every version runs 4 Twins and trainer lock. The latest version I used ran 4 Rare Candy, a 4-1-4 Gengar Line and a ton of draw support. The goal was to be able to use Cursed Drop (or Hurl into darkness in some situations) on turn 2. If you can pull off that against Durant, you win. But you don't even need to get it out so early. The moment a Durant leaves the field, it's gone. And that buys you a couple for rounds. Enough to seal the game, usually. So, the matchup is really favorable. Protip: Seeker + Hurl into darkness "OHKO's" Durants.
Cobalion isn't an issue either. He fails to OHKO Gengar, Gengar can retreat for free to another Gengar, and take down Cobalion in 3 turns. Also, I never cared for Cobalion in Durant. Turbo Durant is best Durant, in my opinion. I don't care how many tournament winning lists ran Cobalion, I think it's a bad play. But that's kinda off topic. I'm not sure what you mean by magnezone/gengar? Is that a deck or something? Sounds awful.

I haven't tested the Lostgar vs Durant match-up, but there's a player in my area who has played it a couple times and supposedly his Durant match-up is favorable. It plays pretty much like it does on paper... Seeker + Hurl into Darkness.
On topic: Lost World decks mostly have issues with time, mostly in Top Cut but sometimes in Swiss matches as well. They almost never win Sudden Death. Though Durant also doesn't do well in Sudden Death, it's also a pretty quick deck and I you don't see too many Durant matches going to time. Lost World, on the other hand, can take a little longer to unfold. |
