This ability can be used 1 time during your turn if this card is in your discard pile. Flip 1 coin. If heads, attach 3 different Basic Energy cards to this card and play it onto your Bench.

[C][C][C] Rainbow Burn: 20+ damage. Does 20 more damage for each different type of Basic Energy attached to this Pokemon.

For the ability, where do the energy come from? Your hand? Your discard pile? Your deck? Any combination?
If you cannot attach 3 different basic energy (based on limitations from answers to the above question), can you use the ability or does Ho-Oh-EX stay in the discard?

For the attack, if all of the energy are fire, does it do 20 damage or 40 damage? Does 'each different' start with the second type of energy?

You do not have the correct text for this.
Looking at an actual card, it is clear that they come from the discard pile.

If you have less than three different Basic energy cards in the discard pile, you do as much as you can.

The card says "20+", so that would be 40 damage with all Fire.
