Some questions from the needy

hey i've been away from pokemon but i noticed the World's championship is in San Diego, CA and felt it like an omen. I plan on going to the grinder (funny, gonna be my first tournament in a while). I got a few questions. Here goes.

1)in the past, have there been newbs in the grinder?

2)are the pokemon stands/vendors worth it?

3)about how much money should i bring for food and stuff?

4)oh ya, and since i live close, (i know i'm missing out on the excitement of overnight practice, etc) I plan on leaving every night and coming back in the morning. How late are there gonna be ppl still playin down in the lobby (as in like not in their private rooms) so i can kinda estimate when my mom should pick me up (age-15). Oh ya, and how early can I be there the next day?

ALL ANSWERS WILL B GREATLY APPRECIATED!

THANKS TO EVERYBODY FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ (and hopefully post).

PAYCE!

1. I'm sure there have been. Just because your a newb doesn't mean your not good!

2. The side events, the karma and such are so worth it. Got a few friends going? You'll have a blast

3. Come with a full belly & 20 would probably cover you for the day. Souvies money is up to you. I don't remember much of a store except through the Pokemon Rocks Tour (and I don't think they'll be there this year).

4. There will be people up at all hours. The actual main event room get's shut down (around 10pm) but there were side tourneys, test decking & such going on in the halls last year. So you really should just determine by your own juice and how long you can go. I'm sure being there between 7-8 wouldn't be considered early, just the main event room probably won't be open just yet.

Come on out and join the Pokemon Party

Also if you don't qualify for Day 2 there will be Ex Unseen Forces Pre-Releases on Sunday (I think cost is $20 per). Also if you don't qualify for Day 1 (i.e. through the grinder) there will be league that should be free.

I've lost it years ago.

But the beanbag room is awesome. Words cannot describe how awesome it is.

I went to nationals after being out of the game for awhile, never played the current format, won my first event. Bulid your deck right and you'll be fine

Food wise, see if you or someone else can find coupons for the places there. You may even get off eating free.

To answer your first question there are alot of newbs that have/are playing in the grinder and (correct me here if I am wrong) 50% of the people who enter the grinder get in. Hope it helps!

I'd GUESS that there would be less unused invites this year than last, since all invites (in the US, not speaking for Int'l) came with a trip...so I'm guessing it'll be a little harder to grinder in this year than it was last year, as less spots will be available.

As SD PokéMom mentioned I expect there will be less this year given there are no invite only and more trips given out (i.e. 3 Stadiums vs 13 Regionals). Last year it was approximately:

10-: 19 attended, 19 taken

11-14: 48 attended, top 24

15+: 130+ attended, top 32

Phil, its ok, we all know you like the Beanbags, but doesn't mean you have to go wild and all, so please, DON'T GO CRAZY!
Well, if you don't make day 1, theres plenty of side events, and theres a league play and tons of other things to do But for some reason i don't remember you, this puzzles me
