Chicago Prep Tourney Report
Chicago worlds prep tourney report – Hedgie (Paris)
So, finally, a tournament on my home turf – THAT I CAN GET TO WITHOUT A CAR. At 10:00 a.m. I catch the Red line at Chicago and State, take it to Roosevelt, transfer to the Orange line, and take that to Midway. Upon arriving at Midway, I disgustingly discover that the #62 bus doesn’t stop at Midway on Sundays, and the #62H doesn’t run at ALL. So I took the #54B bus to Cicero and RAN the whole rest of the way (about 3 miles I think) to the comic shop….=/=/=/=/=/=/=/ I got in and found out it was pretty casual, you know, back of the shop, wobbly table, “play ya for the last burrito” sort of thing… but still sanctioned and with good players in attendance. Annnyway, onto the rounds… I still hafta pack for Detroit >_< I played ludicargo for anyone wondering Round 1 vs. Jessica w/ T2 (Medicham) I am short handed far into the game, getting meager topdecks, while she has a medicham that’s destroying me. Somehwere mid-late game, I manage to hit 2 of her medis for 50+, then ATMR them; shes left w/ a lone wobbufett, which I ko w/ a strength charm, and it’s basically game from there… 1-0 Round 2 vs. James B. w/ Steelix I get set up fairly well in this match, and it goes down for me like any NORMAL ludi match does… ludi and cargo help build other ludis… various attacks from ludis… random reversals that always get tails… except for one on a pidgeot :x…I eventually won, despite some disturbingly simple math miscalculations. 2-0 Round 3 vs. ??Biggins?? w/ Rocklock This game went bad; I had a mediocre start, and couldn’t draw into much for around 4-5 turns… he eventually crushed me w/ a D. Amphy I think 2-1 Round 4 vs. Matt (new team Chicago trainee? idk) w/ four corners variant This game was more of a test for him against Ludicargo; I won pretty easy, but hopefully he got the feel of how Ludi plays for when he goes to the grinder. I helped him a couple turns and gave him some Ludi pointers, and Jimmy helped a bit too. GL at grinder homie =). 3-1 Round 5 vs. Celio #1 w/ Slowking I got nothing and he crushed me this round. But hey, I formed the slowking strategy XD 3-2 --I made cut to T4 b/c I had pretty good resistance; 60%. – T4 Match 1 vs. ??Biggins?? again Game 1 I won even though it took forever =(. Game two he won, and with 5 mins left for game 3, I had a T1 lombre with a DRE hitting with double scratch. I got 2 heads on something, a sparce I think, and got ahead of prizes. I did it again the next turn, and when time was called I won. Match: 2-1 Total: 5-3 T2 Match vs, Celio #1 again =D Game 1 I actually won, after getting a decent starting hand, getting a happy dance ludicolo out with a scramble, repeatedly admining, etc etc etc. Game 2 he slowly wins, and game 3 he really wins, by controlling my topdecks and me mistakenly wasting an ATMR in hopes of not letting him get his energy back via EXP. all. …but ahh, great games Celio ;x All in all, finally got to play IN Chicago, and that was cool… Jimmy says they’ll prolly hold it once a month, and even tho I’m quitting, I might go down and visit sometimes. Team Chicago really isn’t that unholy, lol. Jimmy is cool, Cory rocks, Will is awesome (even though he wasn’t there), Jessica and Jessica’s dad are nice, and Jimmy’s kid’s are fun to be around. Axe is still a pain in the ***, lol, but hey, it’s possible to get along. The tourney was good practice, especially the Slowking matches (regards Celio #1 :P) and I’m glad I went. Thanks to everyone. Also, final thanks to the Celios (OK THAT DOES IT WHAT ARE YOUR GUY’S NAMES ====///////) for the quick drive down Archer to Cicero. You guys saved me $1.75 on bus fares ;x. ~Hedgie Last edited by coolhedgie; 08/08/2005 at 03:14 PM. |
